It’s totally fine if humans choose to be vegans themselves, because humans are naturally omnivorous, just like dogs. Cats, however, are obligate carnivores and you will not find a single vet that supports veganism for cats. I am curious how a dog’s system will react to an exclusively vegan diet in the long term. Most vets advise dog owners to mix in a little meat once in a while, but I’m wondering whether that is a necessity with this ‘biohacked’ stuff.

Vegan dog food is much easier to make and scale in the long term than meat, which has an extensive supply chain. Those bags will eventually become really cheap and that's when sales will flourish.
Eh there’s really no need for dogs to be on a vegan diet and it’s actually difficult to make them thrive on it. They’re not true carnivores like cats, but it’s still more for the human than for the dog. Also, big brands like Purina and Royal Canin spend the most on research, so they’re always the safest bets. Anyhow, this company seems to be doing quite well now.
There is absolutely a need. Dogs currently eat textured protein which is entirely fit for human consumption. We kill other animals to feed to dogs, and it all increases carbon emissions. This concept is the future of pet food.
