Liked your video as I'm doing a Series IIIC 1600 Hillman Minx Engine at present. It might help viewers to emphasis that aligning the dots on the sprockets as per the book IS the correct process but the issue that you are identifying is that this sets No4 to TDC firing stroke and not No1. This is because the usual follow on process that can catch people out is to install the oil pump in order to set the distributor up for the correct timing etc., and this of course requires No1 cylinder to be set up for TDC and valves closed. Therefore the crank must be fully rotated by 360 degrees and the cams should be checked on No 1 to confirm they are not pushing up to the valves. hope this helps others.

It's the same on sunbeam alpine 1725. Just spent ages at work trying to figure out why my dots didn't line up at No1 tdc firing, thought I was going mad.
