I first heard this song in January 1970 during my first experience with acid. I was "getting off" and the familiar "Whole Lotta Love" was making my head explode. The kids could see me rocking out in that scene. Great great song
I'm rocking age 70. Zep was playing loudly in my buddy's large attic bedroom, at his folks house, when we tripped, in 1971. The room was decked out with a billowy army surplus parachute, hanging down from the rafters. We had a very primitive electric light-show, color strobe, that pulsed along with the music. The floor was covered with several mattresses, that we laid upon, and they were covered in Tie-dyed bedsheets, and faux eastern Indian patterned fabrics. Patchouli & sandalwood , incense sticks steadily burned, giving off hypnotic curls of smoke, that filled the air. Good times.
@@LoneLee2022 Back then, friends knew how to create a mellow and safe place to "trip". LSD had already been on the scene, since the early 1960s, so by 1970, hip publications, were printing, "How To" manuals.
@@LoneLee2022 Me neither. In fact they were amazing visual explorations. I felt I experienced a lot of the things, other people had tried to describe to me. Like intense colors, swirling unfolding imagery, things that resembled fractals,...unwinding coils, that were dimensional, like spiral staircases. I remember staring at a patterned fabric, that turned into to a whole 3 dimensional world. I remember laughing non-stop,...everything was novel. I recall repeating the words, "far out", over and over. I dreamt or hallucinated that a talking squirrel and I were communicating, he turned into my spiritual guide. We walked past towering buildings that were glowing, and pulsating in intense colors. There were trails and tracers, following everything I looked at,...everything was all melty looking. Or I thought at another point, my whole body was made of crystals, or fragmented like broken safety glass chips. My trip lasted 3 whole days, we began it on Friday night, and I was worried that I wouldn't be straight enough, come Monday. It took an extra day to fully recover.

I watched "Breaking the Band"-Led Zepplin tonight on REELZ and I learned that Page and Plant REALLY did not get along in the last few years of Zep's existence. A lot of it seems to have come from Page's rampant heroin usage. Toward the end the band was barraged by one tragedy after another. Plant's son Darac died suddenly while the band was touring in the U.S. Finally, John Bonham's death "broke the band."
