The biggest reason is that the Washington Huskies got screwed something awful. They won at #4 Michigan & beat #2 Oklahoma on a neutral field. BYU didn't beat a ranked team that year

Incredible how innocent and harmless Mark Bavaro looks like. He was a human battering ram on the field who would carry defensive players on his back. So many greats here. Bruce Smith, Lomas Brown, Eddie Brown, Fralic, Flutie, Byars... Dan Lynch was a sad story. During training camp his first season in the pro's his weight plummeted strangely...he ended up in intensive care. Turns out it was addisons disease.
