@@mantis10_surf85 I seem to recall he was also runner up to Archie Griffin in 75, and IMO should have won it that year. Archie's senior season was no where as good as his first Heisman winning year, but voters couldn't bring themselves to give it to an underclassman two years in a row. Thankfully, they're now comfortable with giving it to a deserving underclassman. Maybe one year they'll start awarding it to great defensive players, rather than just the outstanding back, usually a QB.

What a JOKE the All-America team selection was back then. All favoritism by wimpy sportswriters for a few top teams. Sciarra the chosen QB (UCLA) didn't finish top 20 in ANY major stat category - a joke he was picked. True All-American QB should've been Craig Penrose (San Diego State) or Gene Swick (Toledo). Running back was even worse... Archie Griffin was 6th in rushing yards and didn't make the top 20 in yards per carry or TDs yet was All-American and won the Heisman for the 2nd straight year. Ridiculous. He was chosen by wimpy sportswriters who favored Ohio State and wanted to see someone win 2 Heismans for the first time ever. Ricky Bell was robbed of the Heisman and Tony Dorsett was absolutely robbed of the All-American spot.
Ricky Bell, Chuck Muncie, Mike Haynes, Ed Simonini, Greg Buttle, and Pat Thomas were not "busts". Bell's career was cut short by a disease which killed him. Greg Buttle. Went on to be a terrific lifelong New York Jet!
