Crazy shit man. I admire the bike skill but blatantly running red lights and weaving in and out of pedestrians is ultimately going to get you fucked up one way or another. Only takes one person to take a swipe and you're wiped out...
The cops know that they are professionals at work taking calculated risks... where the risk takers are also the vulnerable ones. I've had cops tell me "look bud, you wanna go get smashed flat like a door mat, be my guest, but trust, in any accident out there, your the one on the losing end... guaranteed. So if you know you know what your doing..." Also if you think you know the laws for bicycles, but you almost always drive a car... your probably more confident about how much you know the road laws then you should be... have you heard of the 'Idaho Stop Law' (applicable outside of Idaho, as well as within)...?? It's also commonly called the 'Stop as Yield Law'... it basically allows bikes to treat stop signs as yield signs and treat red lights as stop signs... that's the law for bikes in Oregon but people who drive cars are constantly screaming 'that's illegal' out their car window when actually it's perfectly legal. It's not in the driver's manual when you go to learn to drive because it doesn't apply to cars... but just because it isn't in the manual doesn't make the law less valid. Automobile drivers usually don't know bike laws and think they do. They should not go claiming someone broke all the rules when they don't know the rules... bumper surfing (grabbing on to a car to pull you along)... usually there's actually no rule for or against it so also not illegal in many cases... so if everything you know about running a red light/stop sign doesn't apply to bikes and unreasonable as it sounds bumper surfing isn't illegal than you have to begin to question what you thought you knew. Now all that having been said I don't know NYC's laws... and some drivers do know cycling laws well but if you aren't sure... Google Idaho Stop Law... see that I'm not wrong, and use that to open your mind to the idea that different laws apply to different vehicle types, and some of those laws are going to be counterintuitive. All that having been said he probably did break a few laws, and I don't think NYC does the Idaho stop law... on the books... but in practice, they use the NYC stop law... if your a messenger, and you know what your doing ... you don't stop... EVER... Except for babies (strollers, papoose cradle boards). (Papoose refers to the child not the specialized backpack, that's actually called a cradle board.)
Skilled rider, nice style, but playing chicken with the mom pushing the stroller...? Not cool. Looks like most people here feel the same. Good to know.
12:40 ROFL, imagine being one of those pedestrians and suddenly having someone come out of the left field sprinting at full speed and screaming bloody murder at you. I'd be traumatized lol.
Cyclists break the rules to stay on the safe side. And because we keep our neck spinning, and have always a very good idea bout whats going on. Most drivers don't.
This is an argument for running a red light when there's no cross-traffic in order to remain visible to cars traveling in the same direction, or rolling a stop sign to keep your momentum. No cyclist who does urban/city riding is saying these things should be verboten or even looked down upon. But that's not what's happening in this video. Riding the wrong way on one-way streets, coming within inches of hitting pedestrians who have the right of way, grabbing onto the wheel wells of cars to propel yourself forward -- it's just stupid, dangerous shit that has nothing to do with "staying on the safe side."
Rules exist for cars because they are heavy metal boxes that go fast and kill things when they collide. Bikes are basically pedestrians on wheels, most rules are for their own safety only, so if a biker judges himself skilled enough to disobey the rules it doesnt really matter. However, there should be a basic level of respect by bikers who disobey the rules, I dont agree with the way that guy was riding, but what you gonna do🤷🏽♂️
Do you see how congested the streets are.. if they hit the lights/sirens no one would move in time... NY has a strict pursuit policy - you have to worry about the cyclist- pedestrians and drivers.. AS much as id love to see a bus ram into this guy... as much as id love to see a door open and ruin this guy
Santiago_n Besides the fact he almost got 50 people hurt, besides the fact he rides his bike like a douche bag and even if he slams into a car it’ll most likely be the drivers fault.. not to mention you just fucked that driver in the head psychologically.. after seeing this video and he if rides by my car and scratches it.. I’d get out- pummel his face into the ground and continue to beat the shit out of him..
Francesco Bertone the funny thing is, cyclists want to be respected on the roads but ride like this... Running red lights and weaving through traffic, then complain when they get toppled.
Guys like this don't tend to complain when they get toppled... and the real people that endanger biking respect are the ones that look like they are going to topple all by themselves...I drive by them all the time and am afraid to go near them for their own sake, I can see a non-cyclist getting pissed off
Cool riding...but putting pedestrians in uneccesary danger by not following street rules is unacceptable. We'd all be dead if motorists decided to drive their cars like that...
Unspoken rule of the road...motorist HAVE to follow the rules lest they endanger others...pedestrians tend to only follow the rules when it's a danger to themselves or when there is danger of being caught. Bikes are somewhere in between those two. I'm sure you jaywalk sometimes, Jacob.
I'm quite sure cutting 2 inches in front of people walking the pedestrian crossing is endangering others. But gotta be edgy and then smugly respond to every negative comment under your movie.

I don't know if I'm more impressed with the rider or camera man. This was awesome to watch and oddly satisfying to see someone go through NYC traffic so quickly and skillfully. Kuddos to both!
yo it was a really sick whip, but the mother and her scared daughter... mmm i know it wasn't intentional, but it doesn't exactly make the rider look good. the peds had the crosswalk flashing. & im not shy break a red. just felt bad for that girl & mom.I thought it was funny and ironic he's yelling " yes!" through the light lmao
ok, this is going to sound weird but, I learned how to ride like this so I could be better at riding safely. It made me a lot more aware of traffic conditions and my general surroundings. I don't run stoplights anymore but I learned things about intersections I didn't know before. I reckon I'm a safer driver because of riding too. I just wish I knew how to pass this sort of wisdom along to my fellow riders and drivers without asking to essentially try it out for themselves.

@@TerryB Thanks for the reply Terry. That guy at 8:40 was like guys yelling at you guys and it sounds like some other dude yells BRO THEY"RE NOT GUNNA HURT YOU! idk if i heard that wrong but that was dope haha
Seems like with your responses to some of these commentors, you don't actually care too much about what other people think about how you ride, drive, etc. Maybe it was the way you were raised or one day you just decided to not care, but that doesn't make it right at all. Like at 12:37, that was a completely dumb thing to do. Absolutely not caring about who wouldn't be paying attention or who is. You don't own the road. You are not a cop with sirens.
IJoAnZI I riding bikes with Cooper, his lines are really fluid and knows traffic better then 99% of people in NYC. You are watching someone who is one of the best urban riders in the world. Also those lines are usually that tight, we will mostly have the width of our bars to squeeze between. He also cruises at around 20mph, during alleycats it’s around 20-30.
Steven, I had a bike and I now suffer the consequences for not being careful enough. Understanding that it is dangerous is only a fraction of the understanding you truly get after serious injury. If you never seriously injured yourself then you cannot truly understand what it is because you have not experienced it.
UPDATE: Went fixed yesterday, never felt so addicted to a bicycle. Best thing ever happened to me. I need to upgrade my seatpost and get a brand new front brake set for emergencies and hills. My bike is also lighter. :)
as a fixed gear rider I gotta give respect...I have mixed emotions because children almost got hit but the fact is they didnt but please be careful and not hurt the children...people period. I love the thrill of riding in traffic...that shit is fun.
Ok so i read through a lot of the comments. Let me be positive for a change. Amazing video! One of the best videos of city riding i ever saw. Kudos of the camera man as well, Terry, you obviously got some nice cycling skill! I agree that this was not the "nicest" of riding but to have achieved that skill and level of finesse as a city rider, i think you need to become aggressive and even a dick sometimes because city riding is a jungle. Car drivers can be assholes, pedestrians with their stupid cellphones don't get me started, kids/teenagers, bus drivers, 18wheel rig drivers, cab drivers, etc.... Until you live it everyday which i actually do, you cant understand how much of a jungle it really is! Cyclists start out nice, you(other people) just make us this way =). Anyhow, long rant, enjoyed the video!
1:274:518:43 It's moments like these that give cyclists a bad name. Please, for the love of god, be respectful, be courteous, and don't do what this man and his friend are doing.
@@forvainee If it was a car speeding past and cutting them off by inches, would it be reasonable for the driver to defend their actions by saying that they have complete control over the car and would never hit the pedestrian, and that their swerving around the pedestrian was a demonstration of their talent, skill, and quick reflexes? No. The driver would get charged with a reckless driving misdemeanor and would face a fine and jail time, because we don't put that much trust in people. People make mistakes, and when you mix that with hubris and fast moving objects, other people can get seriously hurt.
@@spawnofmunky I get what do you mean. In some countries, bicycles that are on street are counted as cars by law, but they have the right to maneuver between cars, however, cars don't. In NYC you either drive like this or it is not worth it. Pedestrian lanes are even more dangerous as you could see in the video. People on foot are even less focused on where they are going. As for the car drivers, they should be 100% at the moment, and if they are there won't be any problem with bicycles. The magic rule is, to be predictable in traffic on a bike. While no other drivers respect that, bicycle riders actually do. This guy is insanely skilled. This is not a showoff, no, just a showcase of what it looks like to ride a bicycle in NYC.
@@forvainee Really? I bike in the city almost daily and I stop on red if the crosswalk is busy. The reason people aren't focused on where they're going is because they aren't expecting bikes to be running red lights at busy intersections.
Really good riding and skills. And very good filming. Congratulations from Spain. Would love to see you riding here. Take care of yourselve on the road!

What's your camera setup? Very good smooth shots. Must be on a gimbal?
He stuck his finger up at the beginning. If I was 13 I'd think that was truly the most badass non-conformist move on the planet. I mean, right at the camera! This stunted legend just doesn't give a diddly squat about your rules man. Phenomenally radical imo.
lol. Mostly at Terry cause he was in my damn face.
Nice skills Terry! You have to know how to take the march of the great Cooper Ray! Greetings from Argentina!
Crazy but honestly, the most entertaining rough cut hotline vid I've ever see.
Awesome skills both of you, those lines are so fluid and looks like he can go throw any gap, no matter what. Keep posting, keep riding.
That guy at 8:40 was like guys yelling at you guys and it sounds like some other dude yells BRO THEY"RE NOT GUNNA HURT YOU! idk if i heard that wrong but that was dope haha
Hey man, which backpack are u wearing in the first minutes? Looks good!
Watching this gave me anxiety and adrenaline as well, cannot wait for spring roads.
Ride safe
Beautiful video. How do you manage to film so steady?
Also what type of bike is he riding?

Holy Sh*t they are expensive
Titanium
this makes me feel like I'm riding a bike in GTA
Terry! hol van az a videó ahol sok biciklis van benne ? és a végén Cooper Ray kávét iszik a tetőn? nem találom :(
I love these New York fixie groups. I’m hooked on the footage.
Clearly lots of skill and confidence behind the handlebars. Stay safe out on the streets, love the video
One of the best videos on RUclips!
Love this stuff. It makes me want to get out and ride my city.
Mission accomplished
r u still on youtube
Hello! Tell me how it is filmed? Which camera? Did you use stabilizer? It feels like being shot with a computer on a green background...
Обычно эти видео он снимает на GoPro Hero 6 Black на маленьком 3-осевом стабилизаторе (гимбл). В описании есть ссылки на эти штуки.
Hi Terry, am asking with all due respect, does Cooper Ray take PEDs or Rec.D.s?
Man its beautifull how this guy just flows so gracefully through traffic. Dream job right there
You mean ignores every traffic regulation in the city?
@@cd0u50c9 Kinda like every driver in the city 🤣
Now I understand why my car has all those tiny scratches
True
Seems like with your responses to some of these commentors, you don't actually care too much about what other people think about how you ride, drive, etc. Maybe it was the way you were raised or one day you just decided to not care, but that doesn't make it right at all.
Like at 12:37, that was a completely dumb thing to do. Absolutely not caring about who wouldn't be paying attention or who is. You don't own the road. You are not a cop with sirens.
Top notch Terry, a joy best stuff on RUclips
Everytime I try to do that I hit a wall and end up braking, how long did it take you to break that mental wall and develop that skill.
8:41 was too clean
What ratio is he riding?
On all your videos the riders look so freaking fast, but I assume it's because of the wide lens you're using.
Drivers in big busy cities tend to drive slower too, if youre used to seeing cars doing 70 clicks on average it can seem like he's a fuckin superhero
Id say somewhere in the 60s, like an 48 19. speed seems like 25kph, fish eye does make it seem alot faster and tighter
The video is speeded up, to make it look like he is fast.
Dick
yeah yeah, it´s all fun and games until tragedy strikes.
Thank you for the words of wisdom.
Then it's his fault, he understands the dangers of it. Riding like this is fun for him. Get you a bike son or immerse yourself in a hobby.
Steven, I had a bike and I now suffer the consequences for not being careful enough. Understanding that it is dangerous is only a fraction of the understanding you truly get after serious injury. If you never seriously injured yourself then you cannot truly understand what it is because you have not experienced it.
Samy Jacobsen They are professionals at this, messengers get a salary my friend and they've been doing it for years
Yes of course but he is really pushing it and playing cool which seriously increases the possibility of injury.
UPDATE: Went fixed yesterday, never felt so addicted to a bicycle. Best thing ever happened to me. I need to upgrade my seatpost and get a brand new front brake set for emergencies and hills. My bike is also lighter. :)
Awesome keep going!
The one person with greater riding skill than this guy is the camera man.
as a fixed gear rider I gotta give respect...I have mixed emotions because children almost got hit but the fact is they didnt but please be careful and not hurt the children...people period. I love the thrill of riding in traffic...that shit is fun.
14 minutes? Holy shit this is amazing
Good to hear you thoughts on it. Thanks for tuning in.
You gentlemen are nuts!!!
Much love from EP TX.
so cool
In russia if you run a finger over the bus like that you'll be in dirt completely
I like that. Let's film there...
4 years later, still the most inspirational bike clip I’ve seen
All i know is that this video is cool to watch, even though he puts many people´s lives at risk. NYC sights are delightful to watch as he passes by.
12:44 i love how the cameraman has a slightly audible laugh after what happened, i’d laugh too.
I enjoy watching these videos more then when NYC bikers ringing, and yelling "bike lane" all the time 😁
1:27 4:51 8:43 It's moments like these that give cyclists a bad name. Please, for the love of god, be respectful, be courteous, and don't do what this man and his friend are doing.
Do you mean in positive or negative way bad? Those moments really show the talent and skill of the one to quickly react
@@spawnofmunky Hahahahhahahaha that is not even partialy true man.
Also at least say where are you riding
wow good reaction on 1:50
i don't thik so, could be faster...
Really good riding and skills. And very good filming. Congratulations from Spain. Would love to see you riding here. Take care of yourselve on the road!
Does having a bike where the pedals turn as long as the bike is in motion mean resisting the pedal by trying to go backwards will slow u down?
yessir - that's your rear brake if you don't run one (and the cyclist isn't in this video).
