Speargun Refinishing part 1

  • Had a couple of repair/refinishing jobs come into the shop last week. This is part one of the refinishing work on a 55" Killshot Speargun. This gun is owned by Tony Young at Forever Young Charters and as you can see, it has spent a LOT of time in the water. Conservatively, it's probably spent 400 days on the deck or in the water during the past 2 years. To break down the process...
    1. I inspect the gun for damage
    2. I remove all of the hardware from the gun (and remove the bands).
    3. I sand it using 220 grit on a random orbit sander.
    4. Clean off the dust, grit, and any grim.
    5. Apply the desired refinishing agent, in this case oil.
    6. Reinstall all of the hardware.
    7. Give it back to the owner who is usually shocked that it looks so good.
