Eddy’s forgetting problem:
Level 1: forgetting his violin
Level 2: forgetting the story of him forgetting the violin.

Level 4: forgetting that he has a violin

Level 6: forgetting he forgot and going back to normal life

Once I desperately had to pee during Scheherazade. It was either sneak out to relieve myself or pee in my pants, so I chose to sneak out to relieve myself (I sat back of the first violins). When I came back, it was during the concertmasters' solo... I knocked over his stand... during his solo... in front of everyone :)

I once nodded off on stage while counting over 100 measures of rest. In andante. Conductor was going to give a cue since it's a lot of counting... But the music put me to sleep and I was already tired from earlier. Thankfully, my second chair poked me and whispered "hey, your solo's coming up!!" XD
Like counting sheep
Counting actually makes you really tired, it's not imagining sheep that's sleep inducing, it's repetitive boring counting. It's why people always count when being put to sleep...that's really embarrassing though, you must be able to relax pretty well! :)

This one still haunts me:
For my senior culminating project in high school, I arranged several pieces for our concert band, and acted as the teacher and concert conductor for the pieces. The theme for the concert they were being played in was a tribute to Michael Jackson.
On the night of the concert, we were starting with “We are the World”. The band thought it would be a nice touch to project a slideshow of Michael Jackson images on the stage wall behind the band as we played.
I had told my friend who was running the projector that I would give him a signal when I was done talking to the audience and we were going to start the piece. Unfortunately, being as nervous as I was, I forgot to give him the signal, and turned to the band to prepare them to start playing.
After I had lifted my baton, and the band was at attention, it dawned on me that I forgot to give the signal, and so I turned around to my friend real quick and signaled him to start the slideshow.
Well, the band thought I forgot to say something to the audience and went back into rest position to wait for me to finish. I was already flustered, and when I turned back to the band, rather than making sure they were still ready, I immediately started conducting my upbeat. Let’s just say every instrument that was supposed to come in together for the intro, staggered in about two beats apart from each other in a panic, and were all in different tempos.
After about 2 bars, I had to signal to stop. I apologized to the audience for my mistake and started again. Second time it went fine, but I remember that story any time I conduct.
It sounds like it worked out alright. Plus, you're stil conducting, so, good job!!
My conductor stopped in the middle of a piece once when a senior forgot their solo lol-

Horror story: Went to concert with my violin all ready in freezing weather. When I got my violin to tune, bridge just *snapped!* No replacement at the time AND the only violinist..................... Out of commission..............
X.X That's terrifying! How'd you manage after that if you don't mind sharing?
@@kwanzatrotman6337 Well, I literally couldn't play that night and had to take it to my luthier to make sure the sound post didn't shift because of how the bridge snapped and it was horrible weather for any wood instruments. I couldn't play for a few days and was relieved to get it back. I was playing with a band that thought it would be nominal for a violin to join. Had been with them since I was a teen and stayed with them well until my young adult years and they broke up due to changing interests. When this happened, I think I was around 17 years old.

I once was late to an orchestra concert and I didn't know the layout of the concert hall, because I was late, and I straight-up just walked through the audience to the stage, violin in hand and was wearing a different tie from everybody else (everyone was wearing a black bow tie and I was wearing a red regular tie). That was 5 years ago and I still cringe to this day.
I really wonder, if you are late is it important to attend ? because most of you run late but still going .... sorry I am not a musician so I have no idea, I feel bad for asking such question. it sounds offensive.... sorry again :/

Okay but can we take a moment to appreciate Brett’s voice in 1:47
I really would love to listen to him sing a full song SERIOUSLY, and not just as part of the comedy. I think he has a very nice tone to his voice, which is the important part. Singing technique can be trained.

I finally got around to watching this. Here’s my embarrassing story: during an orchestra rehearsal in conservatory, the conductor (a notoriously harsh, critical woman who was feared by all) stopped the rehearsal abruptly, pointed straight at me, and yelled, “you’re not doing the right bowing. Get it right!” We start playing again, I apparently played the wrong bowing again, and she stops the orchestra AGAIN and says, “we’re not going on until you play this bowing correctly”. At this point I blacked out from embarrassment, and don’t remember what happened next... I must have finally played the bowing correctly, but I was scarred for life. Thanks, Prof Reischl (yeah I’m calling you out) for giving me major ptsd. Ugh.
I feel the need to add that I’m a violinist (not a violist!)
Oh damn that’s harsh
I had a similar thing happen to me...but with notes 🙁 could have avoided it, had I practised 40 hrs a day

I think I can compete with Eddy. I have:
1) arrived at tour destination before I realized my violin was still at the school
2) gotten 3/4 of the way to rehearsal (45 min drive) before I realized my violin was still at home
3) arrived at rehearsal before I realized I left my bow on the stand at home
4) forgotten my place in a solo set and repeated a song I played 5 minutes earlier
5) forgotten my hanging bag so many times

Ik it’s long but read until the end, it’s good.
Story time- this was my first year
playing violin and I was still In the beginners orchestra at my school. Very early in the school year when we were still learning to read treble clef, I broke my violin. I was practicing one night and set it down on my bed to use the bathroom. When I came back I wasn’t paying attention to what I was doing and sat down on my bed. All I heard was a crunch and the E string snap. I got up and saw that THE WHOLE NECK HAD BROKEN OFF. The only thing keeping it from falling was the stings. The next day I showed up to school and I told my orchestra director what happened and she just laughed it off and said I could borrow a school violin until mine got fixed. I tried my best to keep this on the down low, and did a pretty good job! Then, at the very end of the year, our last concert came. Many orchestras were playing that night, and there was an intermission right before my orchestra was going to play. So we went to put or instruments on stage, where they would stay through out the intermission. The director told us to put or violins on our chairs. Then she said “now make sure when you come back, you don’t do what, Skye? (I’m Skye)
Me- “sit on your violin?”
Her- “yes, because what happens when you sit on your violin?”
Me- “it’ll will break in half😞”
For the next 3 years I was known as Snapper Booty.
Edit: also the whole audience was still in the auditorium dead silent, so there were a good 200 people who knew about it
I remember in a rehearsal break with my school orchestra somebody accidentally sat on another one's violin, and the fingerboard went out...luckily it wasn't me...

To make you feel less embarrassed, I forget my piano at home every time.
I was front desk seconds during one competition- I went to turn the page and accidentally knocked the music off the stand and it slid all the way next to the conductor’s stand. He had to bend down while conducting with one hand to give it back to us and that moments haunts me still
ah I can feel the pain...
Once my friend knocked over the music. I never forgave him. He quit violin after that.
We had a concert outdoors today and it was kinda windy, so then the clips I had holding the pages down weren’t strong enough and then all the 15 pages of loose paper just fell to the ground during the middle of a song.. me and my stand partner we’re just panicking together
but this is part of the reason why you memorize your music lol

I'm sorry, but thats too funny.
I remember my very first piano recital in middle school. I got to the auditorium dressed up in my black and white dress ready to play. My teacher finishes the introduction to the recital and starts calling people up to play. Immediately I find out that I’m the VERY first person up. 😥 I was thinking, “Well, this is a surprise. No big deal. I practiced.” I get up on stage and it’s dead quiet. So I begin my piece, but maybe 2 bars into the piece...I flat out stop because I forgot my piece in that instant. It took me maybe 10-20 seconds to actually remember my piece. I finished the piece and got off stage. It wouldn’t have been quite so bad if I weren’t first violin first chair so I was centerstage and all eyes were on me. One time I was in the choir and we were singing Router's "All Things Bright and Beautiful". The thing about that song is that the 1st voice (basically the sopranos but it was a kid's choir) come in first and then the 2nd voice repeats and then they all sing together. The embarrassing part is that I was basically the pillar of the 2nd voice and I had forgotten that my voice's non-unissono part existed, so I just came in at full volume with the wrong text for HALF A PAGE and then, noticing the 1sr voice wasn't singing and decided to shut the heck up abruptly.
Also, a few years later, I was in Handel's "Messiah" and there's a movement called "O Thou that Tellest Good Tiding to Zion" which has this weird thing where the sopranos do a little thingy with the word "arise" and then the word "behold". The tricky part is that they do "arise" two times, then "behold" one time (followed by the phrase "the glory of the lord is risen upon thee") and then "behold" again but two times. Guess who was the idiot soprano who did a second "behold" on top of "the glory of the lord is risen upon thee" at full volume?
In high school choir we sang Vivdil’s Gloria. I believe it was after we finished singing Domini Fili Unigentite the choir director said he didn’t like the way we sang it so he was going to have us sing it again.
In university chorus we sang the Huron Carol as part of our Christmas concert. We sang the beginning together and for “before their light the start grew dim and wandering hunters heard the hymn” the tenors, basses and baritones sang that while the first/second sopranos and altos vocalized. I started to sing it and a fellow first soprano had to nudge me and say “We don’t sing that part!”
I feel you on that movement in the Messiah.
I've done the exact same thing. 🤝😭
Also....I totally didn't jump into the air (full on jump, not kidding) in the Amen chorus when there's the really quiet violin line and then everyone (including timpani) comes in tutti.
That.
Was terrifying.

speaking of ballets... i'm an ex dancer. and in a mid-season showcase like recital, (my first year on the school's competitive team actually) i had a few numbers, in a long show. so i finish one. go back stage, start changing. the change room's empty, the speaker playing live audio from the stage... and i had some time. and me, i've always lived by the philosophy "If you have time, use it". had suspenders, had a tie, had to safety pin said suspenders/tie, had to throw on tap shoes... and suddenly i hear my next number on the speakers. my panicked mind said, *whelp. guess i'm not going on for this number*. rather than get my shit together and sprint on mid number. my brain worked out that that'd have the least impact on the audience's viewing experience...
which if i was a normal core dancer, that would probably only really have been a big problem for me, when next i saw my teacher. EXCEPT for the fact that i'm a dude, in a school where dudes are a rare commodity, and so i had partner work, and a partner on stage with no dude to lift her.... my teacher let me off lightly for that. walked in the next week, teach puts on the tape, starts talking to the group about things that could've been better, he looks at me, and goes "i don't even want to know."

I remember I was a soloist. I nailed it in rehearsals, the conductor was so proud of me he was taken aback at how good I was. When it came time to perform, the damn conductor sped up my solo part by like 15 bpm! (It was supposed to be a very slow piece.) I was so shocked at how fast the tempo was, that I had to recalculate the math in my head, that I came in a whole beat late which by the end of my solo, I was a whole bar behind. Oh my god I was so embarrassed and he HATED me ever since. What’s worse, NOBODY in the audience thought I messed up and they all were amazed at what they heard. They absolutely LOVED it! They were moved and felt that everything was played perfectly and went well with the music. And I agreed it sounded better with me behind lmao. Even my band mates thought it sounded even better than rehearsal. I’m like how!?
But I knew, the conductor knew and he was so mad everyone loved the performance like this. Before he left, he told me, make sure you look up. His face was red and he drove off. So embarrassing 🤣

I was playing on the piano for a school talent show. I had a key solo part first. I was SO NERVOUS my left hand failed me, so I played my solo with my right hand (melody) only. I've never had a more tragic moment in my life, because my friends were supposed to come in at a certain chord on my left hand. Bless them for memorizing the counts. 😂😂😢😢
these stories make me feel so much better lol. i think my worst experience was in wind ensemble and the ending of the piece we were playing had a really intense, loud, crazy fast timpani part and i was nervous so my hands were sweaty, and on one of my downstrokes, i lost my grip on my mallet and it went flying across the stage in the middle of the performance. luckily i always have extra mallets just in case.
1:46 Brett's voice is actually nice i wasn't expecting this
Oh.....wow.....ur right
Yeah, Brett's voice is really nice when he's not butchering his vocal cords, Haha.
Pretty much anyone can actually have nice voices. That's what I'd recommend to anyone who wants to change their sound, even if it's just for speaking. That's right up the alley of a vocal coach.
It's not something that I do professionally, just mainly for me and my friends, but there are some really good ones on RUclips, and you can learn a lot about changing how you sound (like being less nasally is something a person might want to accomplish).

I play guitar, violin, and (sadly) viola
Guitar story:
This happened in middle school during this thing called Music in the Parks. I brought, what I believed to be a guitar, but me, being high on coffee at five am, went with an empty case. I realized on the bus and quickly called my dad who, thankfully, brought it right before the competition. Thanks dad

I was in my Middle School Cinamusic concert, and was playing Hanging Tree. My G-string broke during MY SOLO!!!!! Everyone was just quiet as I moved to the back and switched out the violin.

I'm a cellist, and in my first year of playing, I had a concert. We were able to bring our own music stands. So I did, but I brought one of those terrible foldable music stands. Throughout the concert, my standpartner knocked over the music stand 2 or 3 times. The thing is, we were close to the edge of the stage, so it fell off of the stage each time it was knocked over.
i was in this summer orchestra camp, and we had a concert on the last day in front of all of the parents, and it was outside. we were told to bring clothes pins to hold our music down because there was wind, but my pins apparently weren’t strong enough, so a wind came and blew all the 10+ pages of music onto the grass. every parent saw, and my partner and i had to play from memory for at least 30 measures until the song ended

Once I was playing in orchestra for some play (I play the clarinet), and there were around 200 people there, which isn't too many I suppose, but I remember the flautist next to me knocked into my clarinet, which made me suddenly squeak, during the *romantic* scene. I remember that the theatre was just suddenly filled with pure silence, because the rest of the orchestra had unintentionally stopped to look to see who it was. And half the people *didn't know it was me* but my face turned SO red and then I SNEEZED, almost dropping my clarinet in the process. This time the actors also turned to stare at me and I could hear people in the audience laughing. Used to be the most embarrassing day of my life. LOL.

I played flute in my school band, and to this day I'm still not sure why or how this happened...
We were holding a concert at a church and everything was going well, I was nervous as hell, as this was my first performancesince getting first chair. The churches stage was this hard concrete shelled block of a thing. At first, everything went great. We were sounding pretty awesome. Then it happened.
About halfway through the second piece, and the foot joint fell off my flute and clanged to the ground and bounced. Loudly. My entire section stuttered and trailed off into silence. The director stopped mid performance in shock. I had to scramble under three different seats to find it. When I finally found it (by this point the whole band had stopped) I slammed it back on my instrument and we continued.
Side note; there were no strings in my band, so my section was front, stage right. Meaning my chair, and me, were the very front of the band.... I wanted to sink into the ground and die.
Anywho.... That's my most embarrassing story from my band days.
@7:29 Brett is very adorable and you can really feel how humble he is and how he's already moved on from these embarrassing moments.lol

I'm in 7th grade and I had a concert and I forgot the Coda...
My first harp recital, I was super nervous because one of the pieces I had been practicing had some of the most difficult fingering and pedal changes I've seen. That being said, my instructor was very proud of the progress I'd made, and after a few runthroughs of the most difficult parts beforehand, I was ready.
I went on, played two out of my three pieces, and then took a steadying breathe for the final piece of my recital. The opening was the only easy part; a few forte harmonic bell tones (#F and bG), rest, large mesopiano glissando up and down.
I pluck the first bell tone, and the most God awful sound rings out. I freeze, muffle, and do a quick check of my pedals.
I didn't set my pedals right. A mistake I hadn't made with the section of the piece in the entirety of playing it.
I set my pedals right, then start again. The rest of the piece without a hitch.

Trumpet player here. I would say my most embarrassing moment would be when I was playing in my middle school band and right before my solo my third valve slide fell onto the floor. The auditorium was SILENT for like 5 seconds while I was still fiddling with my instrument. Hope that it never happens again.
This is exactly why I’m glad I have a stopper for my third valve slide
OH MY GOD so I was playing in an orchestra last year and it was a competition. It was in May and super hot so there was a bunch of fans too. So we were playing AND MY MUSIC BLEW OFF OF MY STAND AND UNDER THE CONCERT MASTERS CHAIR. So I had to play from memory and after the song I had to Yeet my way over there and grab my music it was so embarrassing.
I also had to do a solo earlier in the year and the room I was in had motion sensor lights and in the middle of my solo the lights went out BUT I HAD TO KEEP PLAYING FROM MEMORY.
My last story is that I was in ANOTHER orchestra and I was second chair. The very beginning of the song was JUST first violins and it was a small orchestra. At the very beginning our music FELL OFF OUR STAND. the conductor literally REACHED DOWN TO GRAB IT AND PUT IT BACK ON OUR STAND. the first chair was so lost but I kept playing from memory until we managed to get it back on the stand

Playing trombone with my school's orchestra. All went well until the final phrase of the piece, and the concert. My entry is one beat after the cymbal entry. Percussion section is right behind my section. Conductor looks right at the cymbals and gives the signal. I panic, thinking he's looking right at me. Come in one beat early, throw the WHOLE orchestra off. Ending stutters and stammers out like a breaking down car. Huge cringe. Thank God it was my last performance with them LOL.
-EDIT- just remembered another story. Playing with primary school band on violin in front of the whole lower school. I find the music too easy and sort of drift off a little. Start tipping my chair back (I was only 6 at the time). Fall backwards with a loud crash. Lay there for a second like "what just happened? ...This can't be real. This is too embarrassing. Got up, trying not to cry for the rest of the whole performance. XD

I remember once that right before a concert, I broke my friend’s $40,000 cello. That was such a bad memory.
Holy fuck
Right before our concert one of my band mates broke her bassoon (idk how expensive they are)
Ash I play the bassoon, and my really mediocre one is around 20k. My teacher got hers for 48k. So they are really expensive
TheChalantNerd wow
did u pay for it
In high school, we had to submit an audition tape (yes, a cassette tape) playing certain pieces and then the music teachers would listen and collectively decide which concert band/orchestra you would be in.
I had decided to learn the clarinet and had probably only practiced 10-15 hours before I made that audition tape. I can't even begin to imagine how much everyone in the room would have been cringing as they listened to my audition tape 😂😂😂
Turns out I actually got into an 'intermediate' concert band, not a 'beginner' concert band... I think the only reason for that was because they knew I could read music from playing trumpet and I was 16/17 and they probably just kinda hoped that my clarinet technique would improve 😂
As it turned out (probably for the best) I ended up with too many cocurricular activities and some clashed with my clarinet rehearsals, so I decided to just give it up.
That audition tape though 🤦♀️ omg I can't believe I even submitted it when I could tell how horrific it sounded!

Alright, my turn.
I’m a flute player in a middle school band. I’ve forgotten to bring my flute to school several times, but that’s about all the forgetting I’ve done. My mom was nice enough to get it for me each time.
One time, in a rehearsal, the flute section was about to come in to a section of long, connected notes. In this section, the flutes were one of the only instruments playing. I came in, and since the notes were pretty high and kind of loud on flute, I felt like I was playing a solo. Our band director stopped the metronome and stared at me for a few long seconds. I remember thinking, “Did I count wrong? What mistake did I make?” When the band director finally spoke, he said, “Okay, you came in at the perfect time, but you were incredibly flat.” I was relieved, because once in a while I just have flat or sharp days, where I’m going very flat or sharp even though I have tuned. I always get over them. That day seemed to be a flat day for me, so wasn’t too worried. But the way my band director stared at me... it freaked me out, wondering what mistake I must have made to be worthy of such a stare.
ok i was at a football game in the stands my freshman year of high school and this girl dropped her clarinet onto the metal stands and like obviously it was plastic not wood bc this is marching band why would you use a wooden instrument. but.
