Watching this now, there’s a new poignancy to it. That deeply soulful instrument is played by a woman from Ukraine. I teared up, which definitely did not happen when I first heard this. Leo the cat was the star before, but given what’s happening in Ukraine right now I think he’s relinquished that spot to that beautiful performance by the Ukrainian woman. The Kiffness is brilliant. I love his creativity - how did he decide to create music with a grouchy cat? Especially music of this quality. There are so many more on his channel, but this one has to be the best. He’s inspired musicians from around the world to add their own talents to a duet with a cat. That’s impressive. Who would have thought it would be this good?
If no one has mentioned it, the "long recorder" is a low whistle, which is a traditional Irish instrument (not sure if it has any history in Ukraine where the musician is from). Love all Kiffness's recordings. I'll check to see if you've done any other Kiffness reactions. If you haven't seen or reacted to Ancient Husky Melody - Kiffness x Haiku the Husky, I think you would enjoy it. I sure did!
