I have been able to hold and clean my 2months old Persian kitten up until now . Now that he has crossed two months and has gotten bigger , he actually scratched me today and ran away when I tried to wipe his eyes 😭 I can’t believe how calm and cooperating your girl is .. you are a great mother for raising such a well behaved baby.. I am afraid mine is going to be a troublemaker.
Yes at 8 weeks they start to develop their character and push boundaries. Gentle persistence is key, even if that means a single wipe over each eye then let him go. This girl is good for eye care but hates having her claws clipped!
My kitten is two months and he’s a white Persian. I keep trying to clean him but he moves and doesn’t let me at all... I’m scared he’s not gonna get used to it
@@Nicola_Bailey He's 6 months now and hes kind of getting used to it now. He still gets squirmy but wayy better than when he was 2 months. Thank you for the video!
How does that powder taste? I use a lot of wet cotton swabs to soften & lift off debris, followed by a warm washcloth over her face, ears & chin. Traumatic the first time, lol. Over the years it became spa time & apparently quite enjoyable. Getting a treat afterwards maybe played a part, too.
Oh wow fantastic my 2 babies don't like it they're 5 months old. I do try and they squirm 😞 but I do give them a treat. I feel bad when they squirm. How did you get your baby to enjoy it? Routine? 🐈
Mines a kitten, 11 weeks old. She has bebe home 5 days and i have been trying to clean her eyes everyday and trying really hard to try and associate cleaning her eyes with a nice petting session and treats but i find it quite hard for her to not run away 😭 don't want her to hate me
Take your time, and make sure you are not holding the kitten too tightly or pressing too hard as you clean the area. If the kitten is not badly stained I would just wipe over the eye area with cooled boiled water and not worry about the powder until the kitten is more used to being cleaned. You can get her used to the sensation of having her face cleaned by gently running your finger across her eyelids when you stroke her. Gradually she'll get used to having it done.
Thank you so much for the video, my 2 babies hate it they keep moving around 😞 after I give them treats for being patient. I keep trying but is there a way or in time thet get use to it? My babies are 5 months old Your baby is beautiful❤❤❤
They do get used to it. Make sure you don't press on the eye when wiping as they will find that uncomfortable and not want to be cleaned in future. Good luck 😊
Wait until they are tired or asleep. Just be gentle and take your time. Once they get fussy just take a break and come back and try again. You just have to be extra persistent but gentle with cats to train them.
they do get used to it over time (we have a 8 year old red persian gentleman who’s been with us for almost 3 years now.) but they’ll never enjoy it, only tolerate it.
I have the same problem with my 4 month old kitten, she hates it and she can‘t stay still. But I find it okay for now, her eyes are pretty much clean anyway. Sometimes I get to clean her a little up but nothing much. They‘ll get used to it eventually. :)
No, do not use baby powder on the face. I use Eye envy which is specifically made for this purpose. There are other brands who also make powder specifically for keeping cats faces clean and dry. Anna Castle Bath, and Breeder Care are two others I know of.
My cat has tear stains and we clean it regularly, but I found some white mucus in one eye today. The eye is a bit red but doesn’t look really bad. Should I go to the vet?
Nicola Bailey okay thank you so much!! It isn’t really thick or yellow and the eyes are much better now. This happened before and when we went to the vet they said it was okay. Anyways, thanks again.
Also a Persian servant. I never get why people put makeup on their cat. The cat doesn't care and probably wont like it anyway. Same with groomers who clean and clip pets, the spray them with perfume. Our pets probably feel dirty after that.
Depends what you mean by 'makeup'. If you mean coat dyes then animals probably don't really care either way as they aren't self aware;; although I personally wouldn't dye the fur of my cats or dog. Eye powder however helps prevent tear scald and bacterial growth that can lead to skin and eye infections, so is therefore a welfare tool. I'd rather see a clipped pet than a matted one. However I agree that perfume doesn't belong on a pet.
Hi I have just rescued a british shorthair also called Elsa! She's 6 and truly does not like anything near her eyes, what methods could I use to make her feel safe and keep still while cleaning?
Don't make a big thing of it, if it becomes a fight she'll simply never accept being cleaned. As her bond with you develops trust will come and you'll find it'll get easier to clean her eyes. For now, I'd start off by doing 'sneak wipes' while you stroke her head. It won't get the eye area properly clean but it'll help get her used to you touching there. Start with just your thumb and as you stroke, quickly wipe your thumb across her eye in a stroking movement. Later you can wrap a small piece of tissue round you thumb and do the same. Find a treat she really likes as this can make the whole process a lot more enjoyable. In time, hopefully she'll become happier for you to clean the area more thoroughly. Water that has been boiled and cooled is ideal at first. You can start using stain removers later if needed.
you can do it every day - it’s recommended to - but you don’t have to. do it at least 4 or 5 times a week just to make sure that the cat doesn’t get an infection
I used Eye Envy. Products that are made specifically for cats or other small animals mean it won't have any ingredients that are too harsh, or harmful.
I used Eye Envy on this occasion, however there are a number of different brands for cat eye care and availability may depend on the country you live in. What works for one cat won't necessarily work for another, hence why I say in this video that you should try a few different ones to see which works best for your particular cats.
My cat has that exact thing and the actual eyeball looks fine. Ive been reasearching the causes for this, and ive just found diseases... Maybe a way to remove them permanently OR, maybe its just a persian cat thing. Any ideas anyone??? 👁🐈
This is normal for Persian cats. Their large eyes and flatter faces mean that they often have tear overflow which will leave a stain on the fur. Cleaning prevents the staining.
@@tammyphillips9162 Eye Envy is the name of the products I use to keep my cats faces clean. I buy it online, from a grooming retailer. If you google Eye Envy you should be able to find some.
Nicola Bailey Eye envy is the trademark for both the liquid and the powder? And also how many times a day you clean the cat eyes? Does the powder can be use daily?
Will the powder help with keeping away eye infections? It's seems no matter what I do my Persians eyes keep getting infected bit I've never tried putting the powder on.
There isn't anything antibacterial in the powder so I wouldn't think it will help with eye infections. If antibiotics and eye drops from the vet don't stop the eye infection from returning its probably a viral issue.
Persian cats have very small or no existant lacrimal glands. The tears won't drain properly and rather flow on the face. The oxidation of the tears causes a rusty/black stain that needs to be clean away.
Hope she got a bowl full of treats for being a good girl through cleaned.
Treats twice a day in that case!
Thank you Nicola.I have a white faced Persian and it’s almost impossible to keep his face clean. I appreciate you posting this.

But good luck with the bathing
Bath is not the problem..dry fur is the biggest one
Thank you for the video, that help us a lot with our Himalayan Persian.

My cat has tear stains and we clean it regularly, but I found some white mucus in one eye today. The eye is a bit red but doesn’t look really bad. Should I go to the vet?
If the mucus is thick and a creamy-yellow colour that is often a sign of infection so would be worth seeing the vet for.
Nicola Bailey okay thank you so much!! It isn’t really thick or yellow and the eyes are much better now. This happened before and when we went to the vet they said it was okay. Anyways, thanks again.
It can just be 'sleep' which all cats get occasionally. In that case just wiping it away with a clean tissue or cotton pad is sufficient.

Why the tear is stained?
Tears drain through tear ducts. If they leak on the face, the tears oxidize. Flat-faced cats sometimes have issues with tear ducts.
Why do they have so much tear?
They have large eyes and the shorter nose length means the tears sometimes go onto the fur.
Persian cats have very small or no existant lacrimal glands. The tears won't drain properly and rather flow on the face. The oxidation of the tears causes a rusty/black stain that needs to be clean away.
