The SCM Wind Symphony conducted by Dr. John P. Lynch perform Vincent Persichetti's Symphony No. 6 for Band, Op. 69. September 14, 2017 Verbrugghen Hall
When you say it's not usually done, do you mean that Persichetti intended for it to be done that way? I haven't heard any other recording that did this.
Been familiar with this symphony for a long time, but had no idea the melody of the 2nd movement was based on a hymn... the harmonies are definitely Persichetti's own, though. This was some serious creative liberty taken on the part of the ensemble/its director... I think it's incredible. Who knows what Persichetti would have thought. And who cares, really!
That's what I thought, too, but then I started wondering if maybe there's been a reprint with a slight change? It didn't sound bad, necessarily, just different.
I'm impressed by you guys singing at the beginning of the second movement, that's tough stuff.
And adds a lot - a great hymn little-known.
Vividly recall playing percussion on this in HS band in 1965! Great job!
We are playing it for our band right now.
Same here, only Our high school band played this in 2022. I played the toms
Delightful! I’m so glad to have chanced on this today!
Congrats on a GREAT performance!
Beautiful, so singingly done.
Nice rendering. I like the choral introduction in the second movement: It's not usually done.

C h i l l s from the unexpected choral rendition at the beginning of movement 2... amazing (and amazing performance in general)
So excited to play this at PMEA region V band next week!! 3rd cornet
The hall appears to be empty, yet I heard applause when the conductor appeared on stage.
Having flashbacks to high school
literal ones
About to preform this on Saturday for hs rn
Movement 2's beginning: "Round me falls the night; Savior, be my Light"
Inspirational performance! Love from Fairfield Warde High School in Fairfield, Connecticut
Sydney Conservatorium of Music - Well done!
The audience loved it
This piece is the *only* time I have seen tuba mutes deployed (15:30)
6:52 second movement singing
two girls for every boy intoned
6:46
7:41
I think that xylo got lost in first mvt
The xylo player played the wrong notes at the allegro in movement I. Just thought it was funny for some reason.
