Please keep making your holiday shows and projects, as a crafter and holiday enthusiast who decorates his own place, I find your videos very informative and don’t want to see them disappear, though my husband is not an enthusiast like me, he helps me set up my designs every year.
I’m 52 yrs old and still do a yard haunt. I start working on props in August and put up the first scarecrow out front the first weekend in September. The rest starts going up every weekend, and by October 1st all is up and lit.
I used to decorate our yard completely every year. I was the only one on our street who went all out. Then my decorations started disappearing. People were stealing them 😞 Now I only decorate the night before, so unfortunately my Halloween displays aren’t nearly as elaborate as they used to be.💔
Great tip about the Scotch Guard UV protection for the pumpkins. I wouldn't have thought of that! I also like the dry-brush accent darkening of the pumpkin too.
I paint the insides black before putting a led puck light in it. You can also lightly spray paint the outside with black paint and wipe off with a crumpled up newspaper. It gives it a good rotten look.
Great set up! I really like the variety! Do you have any stencils for the jack-o-lanters? I really like the one that looks like a jester, did you free hand that or can you share a stencil? I don't know how to describe it except to say it has star like eyes with circles on the top and bottom of each eye.
turned out awesome ill deff be trying this :) would love to see a video on how/where u store all the diys and tips on how to do it for those of us who need the help lol
Isaac, I am decorating my home for a annual Halloween party. This year I am writing a murder mystery dinner party. I would like to build a coffin from the sheets of foam like you use. It would be great if you would decide to make one to show me, or you could take the two hour drive down to Charleston SC and show me. Always enjoy your incredible hard decor. Thanks so much, Herb
Honestly, I kind of assume that foam pumpkins were solid rather than hollow, so that made me chuckle.. since obviously hollow is better. But it looks so cool, and your suggestion of free-handing the drawing rather than using a stencil is spot on!!
Hello! This is amazing! Not sure if you're still answering comments here, but generally, how are these candles outdoors? Will getting them wet cause problems? And ultimately how long to batteries last in them? I plan to do 8-10 so I'm just trying to determine how many batteries I'll need and around how often I may need to change them from September - November
@@toocool21111 the candles are fine outdoors, just make sure you do not buy the wax ones. They make these in both wax and plastic so buy the plastic ones. I change out the batteries once a season. So generally, I change them out at about the three week mark. Of course I don’t run these all night, I normally run them for about 5 to 6 hours a night.
Loved the idea and I made 12 jack-o-lanterns like this for my display this year. One question though about the Scotchgard. When I applied mine, it didn't really dry on the pumpkin, and now they are just greasy and look "wet". Any suggestions, or have you experienced this issue?
It never really dries. Mine aren’t wet but they do feel slightly greasy but never too noticeable. After a few days it’s only a slight residue that I have on mine
Well just tried to do this with foam pumpkins from Hobby Lobby but they're not hollow. So disappointed can't do the project tonight but will go to Michael's instead hopefully they're the right ones.
Great video! I used foam pumpkins for the first time last year. Didn’t know about a hot knife so carved them by hand. Not terrible but definitely more work than what you showed. Guess what I’m shopping for next? 🎃 😎
@@IsaacAlexanderDIY - Happy to report the hot knife worked out great! I got 10 pumpkins done yesterday and it didn’t take long at all. I’m so pleased with how they turned out. Still need to paint them and get lights but off to a good start!! Thanks again and Happy Halloween! 🎃🎃🎃
That is so good! I’m working on my display right now! You should make a video of like how to make a cheap graveyard sign! I need ideas i have a idea but trying to make it spooky like a very spooky/haunted graveyard!
FYI, the candles you linked have a cover on the bottom you have to remove to get to the battery compartment. You may not be able to change batteries if the glue seals the cover.
The ones I have linked are better for the outdoors and protect the internal components versus the original one’s which sometimes allowed water to come in. Nevertheless, the same method I used in the video (when applying hot glue) should be used with these candles. One just needs to be careful.
Stumbled upon your video and hot tip of using the hot knife for easier carving, brilliant!!! These faux carving pumpkins are on Sale in my area right now, so I'm about to stock up to get ready for next year. Do you have a video of where you store all your amazing Holiday themed ourdoor decor? I think I counted 45ish pumpkins in the yard? 👌🤩🎃 Keep up the great work so excited to have on your videos! Thank you!!!
Thank you so much ! glad it could help. I built two large sheds, I have a tall deck that provides storage space underneath it (20ft x 10ft), a walk-in crawlspace, and an offsite large unit
@IsaacAlexanderDIY Thanks for replying. That makes perfect sense, and that's awesome, sounds like great storage set up. If you ever wanted to make a video, I'm assuming most of us here, would geek out on the storage you have! Lol👍
Great idea, but those pumpkins are so expensive, my suggestion along with the scotch guard is drill a few holes on the bottom of the pumpkins for water drainage for when it rains, happy haunting👻💀
The key is to buy these pumpkins when they are on sale, not full price. Michaels will have 50% and 60% off a couple of times a year. I believe I paid $12 for each. This will be the third year that I reuse the same pumpkins that I have bought from Michaels over the years so it honestly isn’t expensive when you factor in how many Halloween’s you can get out of them
I talk about what I did in my Halloween video that I posted titled “the haunting of Scaleybark manor”. I made a basic wooden shelf and then attached it with a rope on the opposite side of the house. it’s very basic and I’m sure there’s a better way to do it
Do you have an issue with them holding water after a rain (add drain hole?)? Would a hole saw be easier for cutting the hole for the candle? Also, the link to Michael's for the pumpkin, the description says it is plastic, not foam?
Been thinking of adding a hot knife to my wood shop for projects like this. Thanks for the recommendation and demonstration of it. May order one after the video and give this a try. Always better to have a tool and never need it than to need it and not have it. =)
I love Halloween and this is so awesome. Thank you for sharing this! Michaels have the pumpkins on sale for $20 right now. Is it a good price just to have it for this Halloween or should I wait until after the holiday when it would be a better deal?
Normally 40% off is the second highest that they ever have it, last year I think the pumpkins went to 50% off but that was after the holiday and they sold out rather quickly. 2 years ago they went to 60% but I haven’t seen that high since. So 40% is a great deal
Thank you! I’m grateful I can get them online since there are no Micheals here in Hawaii. Your displays are very inspirational and lucky for your neighbors that get to enjoy it.
@@nightsplendor I get mine at Walmart. The previous years they were $10. This year, and probably next year, they're $15. I tried some from Target and Hobby Lobby but I don't like them. The one from target doesn't have that "natural" look like the ones from Walmart and both pumpkins from Target and Hobby Lobby have this grid formation on the inside of them. The Walmart ones look more natural and they're smooth on the inside. Target sold them for $12 two years ago and Hobby Lobby had them for $15 last year. I'm guessing both places raised the prices this year since Walmart did.
I will have to look and try the ones from Walmart next year. I ordered some from both Michael’s and Joann’s. Michael’s was definitely easier to cut whereas Joann’s pumpkins have thicker foam much like regular pumpkins. Michael’s is having a sale right now on their 13 inch pumpkins for $12.

Thank you so much, I appreciate the kind comment. This will be the third year I use battery powered candles inside my pumpkins on my lawn and I’ve never had a single candle go bad
Yes, all the candles are different sizes. So all my pumpkins have different size candles inside them. It doesn’t matter what size you use, you only need the light output so it’s fine to use different sizes
I have these pumpkins from hobby lobby and they are filled with styrofoam, what’s the easiest way too remove it so I can put it on my head for pictures ?
I would not recommend trying to hollow out a styrofoam pumpkin. That would be too time-consuming and the results would be inconsistent. Furthermore, you would not be able to carve an elaborate face on the pumpkin if it is styrofoam filled. I would recommend only doing this on an already hollow pumpkin. Michael’s has them on sale right now so I would definitely take advantage of that
