    The Armalite and KAC SR25 standard has the angled receiver in the rear, rather than the curved LR308 receiver. And another company that has that SR25 standard receiver is "Diamondback. They have excellent prebuilt uppers with BCG for under five hundo. They even have a 20" 6.5creed with SS barrel, that is crazy accurate, again under five. So if you wanted to jump over and do "the other AR10" standard receivers-- that is the one to get IMO. Crazy cheap, but excellent quality; plus you can dip your toes into the 6.5creed waters.. and readily shoot at 1000m plus. Hopefully you can read this, because youtube loves to delete my comments. :(

    • @calholli
      @calholli Год назад +6

      Nutnfancy has a video on the 6.5creed I'm talking about; you can jump 3/4 through the video and see where he shows a bunch of targets and see how accurate it is. Diamondback makes their own barrels. They are actually a CNC company that makes all kinds of boat parts, etc. They just do rifles as a side hobby and I really like their stuff personally. I've had their DB10 for years now.

      @@calholli Run what you run. DB is absolutely not duty tier. Not even close. Tons of QC issues. PSA has a history of the same,but they’re coming out with better stuff thankfully and have a near M110 clone coming in their Sabre line. One of the rare times I’ll consider getting a PSA. DB is BCA tier trash. Better than nothing? Sure. Reliable in a SHTF situation? Probably not. Which is what these guns are made for. The fact an Aero Upper was used in this video and had issues shows how far below the acceptable QC threshold has gone. And that unfortunate since I own some Aero stuff. And loved them. They’ve gone downhill lately. You want “excellence” you have to pay for it. LWRC,KAC,BCM,DD,LMT,Noveske,IWI,Radian,hell even Colt,makes way,way better stuff and have multiple price points. Out of newer AR brands that are good enough I’d give SOLGW a nod,and for budget AndroCorp.

    • @calholli
      @calholli Год назад +1

      @@brianrich7828 lol.. You can drink that brand koolaid all you want. I'm good with all that. I have two safes full of rifles and have had some of the fancy brands-- and I literally sold them all and got my money back; it wasn't worth the high premium- for very little gains. The diminishing returns hit very early in price. DB did have a big issue when they rolled out their little pistol years ago, and I'm not too familiar with their AR15's. But their DB10's are a level above all that. I've literally never even seen a video of anyone talking bad about the DB10's; and I've never had any issues with mine. I do agree that they should drill and pin the gas block -- so I did it myself. It's not really gassed for suppressor, but I don't' care about that anyway. You can build a db10 for well under Eight hundred. I advise you do it, shoot it for a bit and give it a good shakedown; I bet you would change your mind. and if not- I see them sell for fourteen all the time on gunbroker; People don't seem to realize how cheap you can get the parts if you build it yourself. Their rifles are crazy accurate too. You can trash them all you want, but until you actually buy one and test it properly- no one is ever going to take your opinion seriously. Your religious belief in the marketing hype is a sickness.

    • @calholli
      @calholli Год назад +1

      @@brianrich7828 Your "QC" argument are only an issue for when you first get the rifle going. Once you hammer on it and shoot the crap out of it and get everything dialed in and fully vetted-- then your "QC" worries just become false beliefs. At that point, you're worried about a probability that didn't' happen. At what point do you actually base your beliefs on facts, logic and data- rather than hype and clout? You should think about that; Ask yourself what it would actually take for you to change your mind.. especially given that you have zero personal experience with one. DB10's are great rifles; at least mine is.

    Well, the LR308; i know there are 3D files out there with wrong dimensions of tge internal parts. What i suggest you should do is use the m16 and m4 blueprints to work out dimensions that do work.
    About the printing to vacuum casting that i did mention before; there is this guy that is going to check it out: Paul's Garage. He said he already had bought a vacuum pump for it. Parts should be more durable after that.

      @@HoffmanTactical Yeah, I was working on an AR10 LR308, have not touched it since a long time now because of some other stuff. But i had to make up a firing pin, and extractor, and i will have to make up the bolt release because the one provided by "Rifle Connection" looks like they just ported the file from "World of Guns" game or something; the dimensions don't make sense.
      What has gotten me great results is to check the part that fits in the M16, copy the page of the part from the pdf file and put it in paint, check the tolerances, and apply the same tolerances on the AR10. It worked like a charm. I got a great barrel extension to fit the barrel, and the tolerances the same as the M16. Of course you will have to do a test run afterwards, but its your best bet. I don't think the AR10 LR308 is much bigger that the tolerances are to be considered tight if the M16 ones are used.
      The barrel I constructed with the aid of "hatchers notebook" and a barrel profile from a retailer. 11 degree crown, same thread as AR10 barrels are usually sold with. I'm going off topic a bit, here. But yeah, the dimensions..
      If you really don't know a solution, you could just use a caliper and a micrometer and buy the inner parts of the LR308 and use those as a reference. But so you know, not all parts out there are exactly mill spec and up to spec. Using the blueprints will get the best results.

    Finally printed the lr308 super lower not that long ago and put a BCA rear-charging .22-250 upper on it. BCA is BCA and I'm having cycling problems with the (second, first one wouldn't even chamber) upper, but I'm overall happy with the lower. I had to print it on a 45 degree angle on the print bed and forgot to align the infill, but it still came out nice on the first try. The new pistol grip design is amazing and I would suggest anyone using an old design print a new one. Also the TPU hose clamp cover is amazing
    I do have one complaint; you increased the size of the buffer tower quite a bit, which I assume was required to deal with the extra recoil of the typical .308. This makes the typical milspec style charging handle difficult to grab. And the buffer spring on the lr308 is quite a bit stiffer, at least the one you sold me is. My scope makes this problem even worse. I'm wondering if you have a recommendation for a charging handle, and I think you should consider selling one in your kits or separately on your store

    • @HoffmanTactical
      @HoffmanTactical  Год назад +2

      The charging is an issue with mil-spec handles, and it's not just the printed lower, any LR-308 with a scope can be hard. I always run an extended charging handle, the Breek Warhammer is the best IMO. I will try to slim down the tower some on the next version.

    • @georgelstuart
      @georgelstuart Год назад +1

      Since you bought BCA, you shoulda gotten a side charger! I printed a Hoffman LR308 and used a side charging BCA upper and it runs great!

    • @trapperjohn7571
      @trapperjohn7571 Год назад

      I'll have a look at Breek once I get the upper running smoothly. A $75 charging handle is kinda a tough pill to swallow, but all the decent ones I've seen are fairly expensive. I don't think I could cut myself on the hose clamp, but it sure feels like that's what's going to happen
      I didn't go with side charging because the lack of a dust cover is a complete deal killer given the conditions I have to work in

    About the orca hand guard failure.
    Given that one did not have ideal filament dryness and ambient environmental protection. Would it be worth the effort with the time and difficulty to anneal that part, either as a standard procedure or if the individual printing encounters the same issue?

    • @HoffmanTactical
      @HoffmanTactical  Год назад

      The handguard in this video was annealed, but it does not improve layer adhesion. The process is mostly to reduce creep.

    • @standalm
      @standalm Год назад

      There are other youtube channels that have done research on wet filament. Basically the water flashes to steam at the nozzle and disrupts the plastic layer being printed and causes all sorts of printing issues. Anything from layer adhesion, thin layers, inconsistent layer thickness, stringing, etc. A filament dryer is highly recommended for anything with carbon fiber.
