Great song! Barbra Streisand is one of the true mega stars. She has spanned over 6 decades of music. This lady has a fabulous voice & can sing many genres of music. She is a singer, actress & filmmaker & one of the few performers to have received awards in multiple fields of entertainment (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar & Tony). Love the musicals she was in especially "Funny Girl" & "Hello Dolly". She has so many great songs that were hits & she has done numerous duets with famous people.

The song "Memories" was written by Marvin Hamlisch and Alan & Marilyn Bergman and earned a 1973 Golden Globe for Best Original Song, a 1974 Oscar for Best Original Song and then a Grammy. She has been in quite a few movies but watching some of them would intrude on your reaction channel as she sings a lot of songs, but not all of her films were like that. For a good comedy film, catch Barbara Streisand in "What's Up, Doc?"

No surprise that she has won every award there is, not that awards are that important when a voice can move and take your heart to a place that i cannot really describe but know exists on some heavenly plane. Thank you again

Song is from the musical "Cats", by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Trevor Nunn. Arguably one of the most over-recorded songs ever, La Streisand elevates it - as she does everything she sings - and makes it new. There's a reason she's an icon - your smile says it all! Give a watch to any of her movies also, she's one hell of an actor.

Trivia. The track is part of a collection called "Memories" which released in November 1981. As a single, it was not a commercial success as it was very somber for pop radio. "Memory" is from the Broadway show "Cats" that did not open until ca a year after this album came out. After the show opened, the "Memories" album returned to the Billboard album charts for another 69 weeks based on the buzz of this performance.

This song was originally written for a musical called "Cats" (1981) where all actors play different cats dressed as cats. "Memory" is sung by an old cat ("Grizabella") that remembers her glamorous days as a young and beautiful cat and now waits for one last new dawn to come for her. In the original version Elaine Paige sings the part of "Grizabella".
Barbra Streisand sings it more from a human's perspective as we can see in the video.
    I like both versions.
In our school choir we sang this song, too. But I think you can forget about that. 😸

It opened in London in 1981 and ran for 21 years, and then on Broadway in 1982 where It ran for 18 years. Barbra recorded this song from the score but had no other connection to the show. As far as learning more about Barbra’s career, I’d Wiki, make a list of films, albums, and TV specials and just dive in. You have an amazing experience awaiting you.

Oh, Steven! It's been so long since I've watched and listened to Barbra sing! Sitting here hearing her voice once again, I immediately got chills all over, and started crying (happy tears). Delicious! I don't react that way to huge numbers of singers, but there are a few. Dan Vasc is one of them. Tim Foust is another. Then there's Avi Kaplan. Joan Baez. Helen Reddy. Anne Murray. Keith Green. Harry Belafonte. Elvis Presley. Pat Boone. Tom Jones. (Little) Peggy March. Glen Campbell. Marty Robbins. Ernie Ford. There have been others here and there, but those are the biggies that hit me right away.
    Barbra...just WOW! OK...back to listening...
This song ("Memory" -- written by Andrew Lloyd Webber, T.S. Eliot and Trevor Nunn was first performed by Elaine Paige in 1981). Barbra's cover of it was released on November 10, 1981. Before that, she had sung the song "The Way We Were," which was released on September 27, 1973. It too (more than this one, actually) features the way old memories color our lives. It's a GORGEOUS song, which was the theme song for the movie of the same name. I hope you'll search it out and react to it sometime, also.
NOTE: I've looked down through the comments before mine, and I see that at least one person has mentioned that Barbra's career took a big hit, later in her life. I won't go into why, but I would suggest just simply enjoying her wonderful music, and leaving it at that.
Thank you for the great reaction, Steven. GRANDMA HUGS!

Thumbs Up! But I believe if someone is going to listen to Barbra for this first time, it should be with "My Man", the clip from the ending of "Funny Girl" is my favorite rendition of hers; or "One Less Bell/A House is not a Home" from her "Barbra Joan Streisand" or "Duets" albums. Or anything from the "Yentl" soundtrack. 👍🏼👍🏼

Barbra is good but the Great Betty Buckley owns this song. This is a song sung by the character “Grizabella the Glamor Cat” in the musical “CATS”…”CATS” was a very successful and long-running musical written by Andrew Lloyd Webber based on writer/poet TS Eliot’s “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats”. Webber took most of the poems in the book and simply put them to music. I love this musical so much.
You can find the Broadway soundtrack featuring Betty Buckley right here on You Tube. You can also find the London stage soundtrack with the amazing Elaine Page in the role of “Grizabella”. Well-worth checking out both soundtracks.

And it’s “live” in the sense that this video isn’t dubbed. She’s a notoriously bad lip-syncer to her own material.
She prefers to do it this way, and with her talent, who can blame her?

You have a production company and you have never heard anything from Barbara Streisand but you do all things music .It never ceases to amaze me when Americans come out with these statements. This was written by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice for the West End musical Cats.
