    Part II: • London Underground: Lo...
    This is the first of several (I do not know how many yet) parts showing local and express service on London Underground's Jubilee and Metropolitan lines.
    The Metropolitan and Jubilee lines share a stretch of their routes between Baker Street and Wembley Park in the north-west of London. At Wembley Park the two lines then diverge: The Jubilee Line heads to Stanmore while the Metropolitan Line is bound for either Amersham, Chesham, Watford, or Uxbridge. The Metropolitan has only one intermediate stop on this route (at Finchley Road), while the Jubilee Line stops eight times.
    This part of the film shows Finchley Road and Kilburn stations.
    Rolling stock featured in the film is 1996 Tube Stock on the Jubilee Line and some beautiful S8 Stock on the Metropolitan Line. One can also briefly spot a Class 165 Train on the adjacent Chiltern Railways tracks.
    Enjoy!
    Filmed on 14 October, 2015.

    • @lifeless66
      @lifeless66 6 лет назад +9

      the reason why they make the color scheme a little weird in the jubilee line trains is because they sort of help people that half problems seeing color, or they see color in a different way than others, therefore, colorblindness. the weird colors make the handles and doorways stand out and make them clearer for the people who have those diabilites see the inside of the train almost like everybody else does, which prevents accidents. But, this year they refurbished the trains to make the handles and everything grey and stuff again, which, if you see from the outside of the train, literally blends in with its surroundings, which makes it hard to see the handle bars. So that's why jubilee line trains have such a weird color scheme.

    Hello again from the US. Regarding 00:45, THAT'S what I meant by "timed transfer"-- the train on the right WAITED for the train on the left. Lucky coincidence?

    • @TrainBoy-qp3je
      @TrainBoy-qp3je 7 лет назад +10

      David Thaler at 1:43 and 1:45 you saw the sign saying trains with 2 or 3 minute intervals. This connection only happened because the 2 trains happened to be in the station at the same time. With intervals like that I don't see a need to have timed transfers because eventually you would have trains waiting outside the station for the train in front to leave. The only time this may happen is when the same line has a island platform for example Earl's Court it is only the District Line that uses these platforms ( the Piccadilly line uses the Underground ones) so one train comes in going to Edgware Road from Wimbledon and another train comes in to Tower Hill from Richmond the trains will ahve to wait there because for part of the line it is only 1 Line in each dircation. But once I was changing at browns Court from the District Line to the Piccadilly line my District Line train pulled in opened its doors and 3 seconds later the Piccadilly line train closed its doors and pulled away towarfds Heathrow airport.

    • @scowy1978
      @scowy1978 7 лет назад +4

      The Underground doesn't run timed transfers but cross--platform transfers and is where the term was coined. Drivers often use their intuition to just hold for a few seconds to allow transfers. Some lines share stations along the line and any opportunity to catch a train in station passengers jump across. Piccadilly (fast) and District (slow) lines have common cross-platform transfers as there are 4 stations in West London allowing these transfers for people heading into central London.

      133travelguyIndo 8 As someone who commutes this section daily, they accelerate faster, but the S stock is very fast once it's up to speed. the reason for the 1996 being that way is because it's designed for short distances between stops, the thing isn't on full power even after 20 years mind you.

    • @Edwiness
      @Edwiness 7 лет назад +9

      No, it's because the 1996 Stock runs on ATO and the S Stock is manually driven.
      Why would the S Stock not be designed for short distances between stops? It's running on the District, Circle and H&C lines which often have closer together stations than the Jubilee!

    • @indotravelguy2004
      @indotravelguy2004 7 лет назад +1

      what do you mean the s stock is driven manually? I thought it was automatic... im not really sure though, but the 2009 stock was driven automatically (the driver only pressed a button and the train moves and stops automatically). Im not really sure about this, since i think 2010 is later than 2009 and the trains must be automatic. please explain if you have anything else, just to make me sure about it.

    • @Edwiness
      @Edwiness 7 лет назад +8

      133travelguyIndo 8 It's not about when the trains were manufactured/introduced, it's about the signalling. The Victoria line was ATO from day one so no need for the 2009 Stock to run using the a colour light system. The signalling system is currently being replaced on the Sub Surface lines but no section has gone live yet and every train is still using the old system.

    • @michaelgreene4748
      @michaelgreene4748 Год назад

      "Fast" and Semi-Fast" is a British way of expressing the types of trains that in NYC and on Philadelphia's Broad Street Subway would be called express trains. In New York, there is, on the 5 line, a "through express" which bypasses stations in the Bronx from E. 149th Street and 3rd Avenue to East 180th Street in the peak direction. That service doesn't exist in Philadelphia, since the Broad Street Subway is not as complex as in New York City.

      It's the transistors that are pulsing the motors.
      They make the signals needed to make a rotating magnetic field in the motor.
      They have a limitation of how fast they can pulse.
      As the train speeds up the pulsing speeds up. But as theres a limitation, it reduces the number of pulses per cycle to stop the transistors from overheating.
      Newer trains have newer transistors which have much faster switching speeds so don't make these noises at the lower speeds.
      Interesting video about it,

    How do jubilee line go faster than the new metropolitan line

    • @Great_WesternTVFan
      @Great_WesternTVFan 4 года назад +1

      Obviously, it's a deep level tube. Deep level tubes run faster due to a a long clear track way. And they run ATO, the metropolitan line is Subsurface, which they are slower because of so many junctions and curves, and they are manually driven currently. Soon, the metropolitan, Circle, District and the Hammersmith and city lines will get ATO in 2022

      @thesalandarian3314 4 года назад

      Ahmasi Lloyd sorry I’m late but there’s a point where the metropolitan does not stop at a number of stations but runs through them however the jubilee line stops at each one of the stations until both lines stop at Wembley Park so the jubilee is local to those stations while the metropolitan line does not stop at the stations so it is an express service.

      Not quite, in this case on this section the Jubilee Line, which is a completely separate line, serves local stations whilst the Metropolitan doesn’t and runs non-stop. The Metropolitan is also the only line to have varying stopping patterns, will “all-stations”, “semi-fast” and “fast” services, but that only really applies further north
