When we ordered our coupe we ordered it fully loaded. Ours was the only one allotted to the dealership at the time that we ordered. The dealer had expected that more coupes would arrive on the lot at a later date, but production was cut short. 1,152 of the 2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe were ever made (including 956 intended for the U.S. market), and only 781 were the more powerful GXP model. I would love to buy the coupe...and have all of the crappy GM plastic buttons replaced with aluminum and then it would be the way it should have been from the factory. Maybe there is a Solstice club where someone has created replacement aluminum trim pieces. That would rock!
A variety of trim levels really would have been wonderful back then. If only time would have allowed for it. There are Solstice forums and Facebook groups that you can look into. Thanks for watching!
Hello! I came across your video as this has been a dream car of mine. I just recently bought a 2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe GXP that needs to be shipped from PA. Your video was very helpful for when I get my car. What's even better is I live in Prescott Valley! Do you know of any local Solstice meets where we all can get together and drive? That would be fun!
Congratulations on your Solstice! There aren't any Solstice meets here that we know of. Your best bet would be to attend Prescott Cars & Coffee. They meet the 4th Saturday of each month and their next meet is August 27th. The turnouts are usually pretty good. We don't know if any Solstices have been there so far. Here's their Facebook link: facebook.com/carsandcoffeeprescott/ We don't have any plans to go yet, but that could change. Let's stay in touch and let us know how everything goes with your Solstice. Good question! It's a good idea to leave it in a neutral position. It's not good to leave it engaged since the motor will draw low level power constantly. Over time this can cause damage to the motor. Thanks for watching.
@@CarzPlus 👍Okay, cool to know. Thanks for the response! One last question lol, Her coupe has the chip that increases the performance...so how does it compare to the roadster? Big difference or hard to tell? Thanks Much
Okay, I'm trying to restore a gxp 2007, this thing won't run right. where can I find a wiring diagram for this thing. I taken it to deals for months and they cant do a thing to help. New alternator, ecu, battery. I have gone over everything with a fine tooth comb to no avail. I hate electrical gremlins so much.
We did a search in Google and it produced this result among others: cardiagn.com/2006-2009-pontiac-solstice-2-0l-2-2l-2-4l-system-wiring-diagrams/ Verify that all grounds are good. It might be what we just found in our 2009. It had 2 pack-rat-induced vacuum line punctures.
"Only 1,152 examples of the 2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe were ever made (including 956 intended for the U.S. market), and only 781 were the more powerful GXP model." ~ Motorius article published April 27, 2020 So, that would mean 196 were intended for markets other than US. However, we haven't seen any references to any coupes built with right hand drive.
We agree! GM has made it's share of mistakes throughout history. Imagine the possibilities with the division that built excitement. Thanks for watching!
Yes, that's a bit of an inconvenience and the only way that can be done is to leave the hard top in a safe place, locked in a garage, and then driven on a short day trip. We've only removed the hard top a few times. Because we are able to give the car three completely different looks, that was part of what made it appealing to us. Thanks for watching!
Yes, and it's hard to tell them apart. Sometimes you can find a Solstice or Sky for sale with relatively low miles on it in Facebook Marketplace or Facebook groups. Autotrader and CarsDirect are good sources, too. Thanks for watching!

Fantastic! Same color we saw at the Arizona International Auto Show at the Phoenix Convention Center back in '08. The car was roped off and we couldn't get near her.
Good question. I'm 6' in cowboy boots. I place the seat forward so I can put a portfolio behind it. I think you would fit with the seat back. Try one out and see.
Nice car. Very much like an MX-5 RF, but more room (maybe). Not crazy about the glass hatchback latch. Video could do with fewer "musical enhancements by 12 year olds".

Does not look bad / looks nice. But on close inspection - it's low quality. The interior is really lots of cheap plastic. But the design from a distance is really nice. And folding seats in a 2-seater roadster? And what's with the mudflaps?
The leather seats with the red stitching adds a nice contrast and the seats are comfy. While the seats don't fold for the same purpose as in a Mustang, they are adjustable to suit more drivers. The bezel around the instruments and the interior door handles do suffer a bit from a quality standpoint and those interior door handles will need to be replaced someday. We did an instructional video on that topic and it can be viewed in our 2007 Pontiac Solstice playlist. In retrospect additional trim levels with luxury features would have been a good thought.
We never imagined that the car would hold this much value after only 12 years of production. To many, they are considered collectible. Thanks for watching!
What is wrong with GM? For years they mass produced crappie low quality boring cars....then they design, engineer, produce and manufacture a superb vehicle, styling motor, and quality -everything comes together perfectly....and GM pulls the plug. It's so sad that America with all it's innovative culture always played catch up to Japan and Europe.
There’s a reason it’s rare - it’s extremely claustrophobic in there, myself and another person took it for a test drive and we both started to panic in it - bad! I do have the regular convertible though, it’s not nearly as bad.
There are some compromises, but I've noticed that the Mazda MX-5 has a tighter fit. I have found each one as comfortable as the other. On the other hand, I know a Mazda salesman who is about 6'4" and he has more trouble with the MX-5 than the Solstice. Neither car is ideal for him. As for me, I do enjoy this ride. Thanks for watching.
Money creates competitiveness in capitalism however money undermines things from ever being the best they can be for profits sake! This is why our space program has lagged behind so bad also! Money , paper should not be glorified engineered things should be!
What appends when the biggest car company in the world goes broke from taking kick backs and massive bonuses while the company essentially dies off than asks for. Bail out !!! shame on the people running Gm!
WHY? I never understood why manufacturers put removable roof panels on non-convertibles! I mean, people who like open air driving will buy convertibles and people who don't probably do not want the sun on their heads. This is particularly true of cars which started off as a convertible and got a hardtop later in the life cycle. Anyone who deliberately buys a hardtop does not ever want a tan or wind in their hair. They'll rather have no leaks, no noise, no sun, less weight, less complexity, less cost and more rigidity. The one reason I don;t like Corvettes for instance is the removable roof panel. I know that I'll NEVER take it off so I'll rather have a proper headliner, no latches, no seals and a complete passenger cell above me.
You've made your case. The coupe gave us three different looks, making it more versatile. Have to admit we've put more miles on the car with the hard top attached. The top basically fits drum tight. The only issue is a little water dropping on my lap after a trip to the car wash.
GM had the perfect car to destroy the Mazda Miata ... they could have given it the Chevy badge . But nope ..it was just too much logical common sense .
You know, a lot of people think of this car as a mini Corvette. It would not have been the first time that a car would have been rebadged under a different division.
Remember the tan/gray interior for the earlier Solstice? Either way, noticed that the interiors can be modified and there are some good ideas that we've seen when doing some searching. Thanks for watching.

You and me both! If only the auto enthusiasts ultimately made the decisions. Thanks for watching!
It's beautiful. It's too bad there's not a place to put the top. Can you get it without the turbo and with 5he 5 speed?
When we ordered our coupe we ordered it fully loaded. Ours was the only one allotted to the dealership at the time that we ordered. The dealer had expected that more coupes would arrive on the lot at a later date, but production was cut short. 1,152 of the 2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe were ever made (including 956 intended for the U.S. market), and only 781 were the more powerful GXP model.
Here's a link to an article from CarsDotCom that you might find interesting: www.cars.com/research/pontiac-solstice-2009/trims/
Thanks for watching, happy to see that you enjoyed the video.
Beautiful car.
Yes indeed! Thank you. Pontiac had one heck of a design team for this car. Thanks for watching!
It looks like a little F type. I had no idea the coupes had a Targa top.
The Targa top was an option that we were happy to have chosen. They're rare and somewhat sought after as an accessory.
Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching!😉
There is also storage in the front of each seat bottom, and inside the backrest of each seat.
You are absolutely correct! A couple of nice features that we're glad you pointed out. Thanks for watching!
Great looking car ! An absolute crime Pontiac was killed with the whole GM bailout bs .
Yes, it was a crying shame. Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the video.
That's the GXP I wish I had, with that hard top. They were literally 3X as expensive as the soft top when I bought mine. 😢
I just came across this one in one of the Facebook groups. facebook.com/groups/7017093516/search/?q=2009%20for%20sale I'm a member of 3 of these groups and one is offered for sale occasionally. -Trish
GM was stupid to give up on this. We should still have an American miata contender.
GM and Ford are only interested in high volume CUVs and SUVs now. The golden age of the automobile is truly over.
We always ask, "Why?" Came across this article while asking ourselves that question again. Nice cross-references in the article too. bellinghamautoacservice.com/manual/question-why-did-they-stop-making-pontiac-solstice/
I much prefer the design of the Solstice over the Saturn Sky variant. Although, both cars look really nice and even somewhat exotic with the designs.
Well, thank you. We really appreciate that and we feel blessed to own our Solstices. Sky owners do take pride in their cars, too, and rightly so. This was an era that ended way too soon. We've collected articles on the Solstice since we produced this video. The links to them are in the video description. Thanks for watching!
Chevy needs to bring this car back under their badge!
Don't we agree! Thank you so much for watching!
Wow that is really rare!!! I know some with the automatic aren’t rare but you CSR is a manual
Thank you for writing. The GXP with the manual transmission is such a joy to drive. Can't imagine driving an automatic. Thanks for watching!
@@CarzPlus lol I put CSR it’s a GXP lol😂
Looks like a modernised version of a shelby daytona
Thank you for putting it in that class. Appreciate the compliment. Thanks for watching.
I’d they had a Sky hardtop…take my money!
Now, that really would be something. Thanks for watching, hope you enjoyed the video.
too bad pontiac got shut down in 2009. this solstice coupe woulda been a real hit. really has some sexy lines.
We agree entirely. Over time I have collected some articles and included them as links in the description box. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching!
Can I ask you where can you service these? Are parts and knowledgeable mechanics available? Love to have one of these, but just concerned about those issues.
Difficult to find anyone for us locally. We keep trying. We have been able to solve some of our issues here, at Carz Plus. Here's a link to our playlist: ruclips.net/p/PL_APaYrVINp871bWlXVJL1j4EGXbruyrl
There are a few Facebook groups you might consider joining. Once you're a member, you can search within the group.
Most GM dealers (my local Buick dealer is great) will service these cars, but some specific parts are difficult to find.
Nice nice car and quick too.
How would the mirror motor wear just by leaving the selector one way or another?
Good question! It's a good idea to leave it in a neutral position. It's not good to leave it engaged since the motor will draw low level power constantly. Over time this can cause damage to the motor. Thanks for watching.
@@CarzPlus 👍Okay, cool to know. Thanks for the response!
One last question lol, Her coupe has the chip that increases the performance...so how does it compare to the roadster? Big difference or hard to tell?
Thanks Much
Great looking car, but I prefer the convertible like my 2006 model.
Fair enough! We have one of each and either way they're both still sought after. Thanks for watching!
Any Right hand drive of this car???
"Only 1,152 examples of the 2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe were ever made (including 956 intended for the U.S. market), and only 781 were the more powerful GXP model." ~ Motorius article published April 27, 2020
So, that would mean 196 were intended for markets other than US. However, we haven't seen any references to any coupes built with right hand drive.
Killing Pontiac and keeping Buick was the worst thing gm has ever done.
We agree! GM has made it's share of mistakes throughout history. Imagine the possibilities with the division that built excitement. Thanks for watching!
Just trying to find out are all coupes gxps?
No, they came in both standard and GXP versions just like the roadsters.
18:03 Was just wondering what would you do if you had to leave the hard top behind, since it can't be stowed in the car, you showed me the soft top :)
@@CarzPlus There was a collapsible portable soft top accessory available once-upon-a-time.
I fell in love on this car because of transformers movie 😅
Never seen a hardtop and damn few convertibles...
There are literally more Lamborghini aventadors than there are Pontiac solstice GXP coupes. There are more Enzo's too if you count the Enzo FXXs.
@@robertstone9988 So THAT'S why. Funny thing: I've actually seen three Aventadors, including one in the "Batman" color scheme.
@@caribman10 where do you live your seeing that many aventadors? I live in Indianapolis it's not the biggest city in the world I've seen one.
Depending on where you live, it might be that a lot of these cars are garaged during the winter months. Only 1,152 coupes were built.
Why do they bring back Hummer and not Pontiac
That is such a good question! Thanks for watching.
such a cool car, too bad Pontiac and Saturn were closed..now instead of cool cars like this we get a bunch of fugly suv boxes...
Yes, and it's hard to tell them apart. Sometimes you can find a Solstice or Sky for sale with relatively low miles on it in Facebook Marketplace or Facebook groups. Autotrader and CarsDirect are good sources, too. Thanks for watching!
The Saturn interior is a much nicer place to be imo
We'd actually enjoy doing a review on the Sky. Thanks for watching!
The Saturns were also priced $2400 higher.
Think I’d take a roadster.
Either way, each one is fun to drive and own. Thanks for watching!
i want a solstice gxp or saturn sky redline so bad..... but the market is fucked rn.
The semiconductor shortage has had a huge impact on the prices of both new and used vehicles. According to experts, this could go on for another 2 years. Thanks for watching!
I have a black one with only 2400 miles. Still looks like it just came off the showroom floor.
LJ
Fantastic! Same color we saw at the Arizona International Auto Show at the Phoenix Convention Center back in '08. The car was roped off and we couldn't get near her.
I'm 6 feet two and a half inches tall. No one ever mentions if tall people fit in one of these.

@@CarzPlus nice video but no music on this type of content would be a huge improvement.
I would seal the T0Tops to keep the interior safe
Thanks for watching! Did you catch our follow-up video? It's zany, but fun to watch. Here it is: ruclips.net/video/U60VlW8ucCM/видео.html
Just don’t drive it in the rain.
Makes me wonder why Pontiac got shut down and Buick is still around.
Yes, we share the same sentiment. Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the video.
Is it for sale?
No, we're going to enjoy her for many years to come. Thanks for watching!

these sell for 40k right now.....
We never imagined that the car would hold this much value after only 12 years of production. To many, they are considered collectible. Thanks for watching!
I don’t really care for the looks of the convertible but the coupe- Killer! They should sell it again as a Chevy product.
We totally agree! If only they had followed your suggestion back in the day. Don't know how many times we've had that thought. Thanks for watching!
You selling?
Thanks for asking, but no, she's not for sale. We've enjoyed this car since day one and will enjoy her for many years to come.

Now on to the quirks and features shidddd wrong channel.
Haha, love it! Thanks for watching.
@@CarzPlus 😂 np bro
What is wrong with GM? For years they mass produced crappie low quality boring cars....then they design, engineer, produce and manufacture a superb vehicle, styling motor, and quality -everything comes together perfectly....and GM pulls the plug. It's so sad that America with all it's innovative culture always played catch up to Japan and Europe.
We've often wondered the same things and we're sure a lot of our viewers would agree. Thanks for watching!
Opel GT.
Yes, Opel GT was built on the Kappa platform as well. Thanks for watching!
Claustrophobia is why you need the roadster.
too bad you canot buy this
DDMWorks still sells lil' chromies.
Thanks for sharing the information. That's a big help! Thanks for wathing.
Money creates competitiveness in capitalism however money undermines things from ever being the best they can be for profits sake! This is why our space program has lagged behind so bad also! Money , paper should not be glorified engineered things should be!
And who's to blame? Thanks for watching.
What appends when the biggest car company in the world goes broke from taking kick backs and massive bonuses while the company essentially dies off than asks for. Bail out !!! shame on the people running Gm!
What did America buy with the auto bailout, and was it worth it? Thanks for watching!
They failed on the inside styling. Outside, looks money, inside, yikes.
Remember the tan/gray interior for the earlier Solstice? Either way, noticed that the interiors can be modified and there are some good ideas that we've seen when doing some searching. Thanks for watching.
The top should have been a tan or red
Now, tan would have been pretty sharp. Only one color choice and so little time... Thanks for watching!
