Yes they have helped in the Portuguese war but that doesn't make kalaripayattu a muslim martial arts. It is, was & were a Hindu martial marts. Because it begins with prayer to devi (kafir).
The beginnings of kalari were also taught by our god Parashuram ( kafir)
How can others learn a kafir's martial art( Parshuram's( kafir god))
( If you mean Portuguese vs zamorin war) The Muslim warriors kunjali & others were merely a few. We don't know why a muslim (kunjali) learned a kafirs martial art. that's not our problem but kalripayattu will remain in history a hindu martial arts.

Bodhidharma was born in Kanchi in the Southern Indian kingdom of Pallava(today’s Tamil Nadu State ) around year 440 AD. He learned Tamil martial arts and Dhyana Buddhism and became the 28th patriarch of that religion. In 527 AD, 32 years after Ba Tuo’s founding of the Shaolin temple, Bodhidharma crossed through Guangdong province into China. According to Chinese legend, he also began the physical training of the monks of Shaolin Monastery that led to the creation of Shaolin kungfu.

It's a shame that a martial arts like this remains unknown to most probably of the world. I am a fan of MMA, boxing and UFC, a martial art like Muay Thai has gained so much global recognition as in it has become associated so much with kick boxing today, it has become one of the most popular martial arts in the world because Thailand where able to use it as a selling point to the world for tourism and economy. While the leaders in our state in Kerala are still asleep and leaving these ancient martial art form survive on its own. It's only surviving in parts of Kerala because of the conviction of gurus who teach this art form and keep it alive. Such a big part of the culture of Kerala is unknown because of the ignorance of its own people and govt.

Kalaripayattu is a comprehensive martial art that encompasses a wide range of techniques, including strikes, kicks, grappling, and weapon usage. The training is generally divided into four main stages:
Meipayattu (body conditioning): This stage focuses on physical fitness, flexibility, and strength. Students learn basic stances, body movements, and coordination exercises, which form the foundation for more advanced techniques.
Kolthari (wooden weapons training): Once the student has gained proficiency in basic body movements, they progress to learning how to use wooden weapons such as the kettukari (staff), cheruvadi (short stick), and otta (curved wooden weapon).
Ankathari (metal weapons training): In this stage, students learn to use metal weapons like the urumi (flexible sword), katar (dagger), and mace. They also practice advanced combat techniques, including defense against multiple attackers.
Verumkai (barehanded techniques): The final stage of Kalaripayattu training involves mastering unarmed combat techniques, including strikes, kicks, joint locks, and grappling.
Kalaripayattu also emphasizes the importance of mental and spiritual development. Practitioners learn meditation, breathing exercises, and the knowledge of vital points (marmas) in the body, which can be targeted for healing or self-defense purposes.
In conclusion, Kalaripayattu is an ancient and fascinating martial art with deep historical and cultural roots. While it may not be the mother of all martial arts, it is an important practice that has influenced and enriched the world of martial arts in its own right.

Kalaripayattu, Silambam, Mardani Khel and almost all martial arts belonging to the Indian subcontinent have every style of modern martial arts which are based off totally or partially on Japanese Karate or Chinese martial arts that consequently have Indian roots. Kalaripayattu and Silambam however is the one that gave rise to East Asian martial art forms. The Punjabi Gatka is actually the Kshatriya shastra kala having descended from ancient Kshatriya traditions. A combination of that and Kalaripayattu together was taught to ancient Kshatriyas on the subcontinent which split into various forms we know today. It is sad that Indians have little to no info. on endemic fighting techniques and are more inclined to learn and absorb East Asian martial arts which basically have origin in Bharat.

*Kalari is actually made in South India but it has close relation with Punjabi/Rajputna Martial arts within India, Thamil culture also preserve Kalari as Varma Kalai, Nair cast, Theeya cast, Brahmin cast later Nazranis and Muslims also had preserve Kalari in Kerala. Each cast system had different type of Kalari techniques of that time such as 'Tulu nadan payattu' was designed by Theeya cast of Todays Manglore, Koorge and Kasargod areas at the same time 'Kadathnadan kalari' was designed by Nairs of Kannur and Calicut areas and also southern Kerala has made Kalari joined with Kadhakali by Travancore Kings who support and preserve Arts with Martial arts. Almost all over India all people had trained well in different type of Martial arts for the purpose of War, Safety and as a life style. But Kalari has a special name Kerala's people for north Kerala pepple believe that Parashuram Avatar of Lord Vishnu brought (taught) Kalari to the people of those era and Sage Agasthya taught a special art of body to the people of south kerala and Tamil people to escape from Tiger's attack which was very terrifica and countless at that era. However many Kalari technics are lost due to british invasion and banning of martial arts by Brits. Kalari have close relation with Muai Thai, Chineese Kungfu and Indonasian martial arts (Silat) which was also banned by Brits. As of now 75% of Kalari technics and styles are flollowing in Kerala by traditional martial arts enthusiasts. It need 15 to 20 years of continum practice to cover all techniques of Kalari. 'Ankamali and Pala in Kerala were the first Nazrani based Kalari foundations in Kerala and Malappuram and Kozhikkode were Muslim based Kalari found in Kerala.*
*Kalari is related to Ayurveda and Yoga which helps a good physical and mental health of a human.*
    Thanks for reading.
