Interesting server option. Never heard of it, @Jeff. That's so awesome that you keep us informed about things like this. Nice that it's getting so easy to do this, even for me, a Linux Noob.
Just tried UmbrelOS for all systems (released April last day) I have to point out all the icks I felt: • Its not a Docker Manager like CasaOS functions, Its a OS by itself, so in theory Casa & Umbrel aren't alternatives • No External Drive support, so your MEDIA dreams are krushed • Resource usage by default (right after installation of all apps) is concerning, for my 8GB RAM Mini PC, it was already occupying 3.6GB or so, System itself 1.6GB or smth!! • No File Manager at all Pros: • Better looking UI • More Apps on AppStore (like Tailscale, Firefox etc) compared to CasaOS • Remote Tor Access I was excited to move to Umbrel watching their UI, but underneath all the fancy ui, its very LACKING!!
CasaOS is way better, Plus has a better support via community Umbrel community seems very inactive, Plus Resource usage (for me) on Umbrel was very high..Compared to Casa which barely hits 30%
🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: - The speaker aims to explain what Umbrel is and whether it’s a good fit for viewers. - Additional software needed is Debian net install and etcher. - Etcher helps burn Debian onto the USB drive. - Bitcoin-related apps are prominent, reflecting the software's origin. - It also includes apps for media streaming (Plex, Jellyfin), self-hosting (Nextcloud), and home automation (Home Assistant). - The process involves navigating the app store and clicking "install." - Home Assistant installation is shown as an example. - It's suitable for beginners with limited server needs. - For advanced users with extensive storage needs, other options are better. Sorry, you lost me at "was initially designed for bitcoin stuff then expanded to include other things.' Crypto has a *lot* of shady stuff associated with it. I wouldn't be surprised if there was crypto mining services/software installed even if you don't select it. Yes, I know it's open source, but lots of stuff is open source and still has malicious code in it. Hard pass.

Very cool, had not heard of this before. I'll have to try it out. Thanks for sharing!
this is casa os alternative
I was really interested in this but only one drive? Hopefully that’s fixed soon because backups are important!
I couldnt mount my 3*3,5 hdds (8tb+4tb+4tb) in this OS.. (

Thank you.
Stay far away from any Linux Dist that has a proprietary app store and/or if you are not allowed to install your own standard distribution apps.
Hope this isn't using flat pack or snaps.....
I could not even flash the iso and boot from it, validation just failed
Try, try again.
How does this compare against CasaOS?

Might as well use Docker and Portainer and learn something useful, rather than have to troubleshoot shitty Umbrell installs.
Baby steps.
Am I the only one disappointed that every time a new video is released there is NEVER any electronic music featured? Here's to hoping.
