How do you feel about running this unit with a two bay Synology? I wanted to use the Umbrel for a Node and the Nas for everything else. Would it be just as good to get a nas and just run Umbrel on a docker?
Strange that it's $600 in the US but £319 in the UK (followed the link above) ... 2.9GHz Quad-Core Intel CPU • 2TB SSD • 16GB RAM • Gigabit Ethernet • Powered by umbrelOS ... maybe they've dropped the price since this was recorded?
You could have added an introductory sentence what this even is. "This is the Umbrel Home, I had a lot of fun with it", you said. "Okay, but what is it?", I wondered. You never answered that question of mine. Only from context, a full minute in, I could figure it out myself.
I stopped watching this video as son I heard 650 USD, I wan't happy already when he said 1GB LAN, but I was thinking ok maybe is 150 bucks, oh boy I really don't know what these people are smoking. Thanks for the video.
Incredibly expensive to be stuck with a one-size-fits-all approach. After this video, I don't even know what it is good for. Apparently its origins are in the crypto scene and the limited app availability still reflects that. Why anyone else should care is less than clear (if one does not include other information sources).
I wouldn't buy such an expensive device for self hosting but having an easy way to install self hosted apps without having to learn about docker or podman does interest me as a dumbed down server that I can use like an appliance.
But, did you have fun with this?
😝
And did it “just work”?
😂 lmao, same feeling. I feel this video barely had any content at all!
I don't think he had a good time
😂😂😂😂
It was fun watching how much fun it was for you having fun with that fun doohicky. ;)
Maybe give the script another pass? Hard to watch with repeated phrases and scant information.
fr need a "fun" and "simple" counter lmao
Installing the "OS" on a Pi 4b would be the most affordable way to play with this.
Or for free in my Proxmox VE cluster :)
Sounds like a really great option for someone to just dip his toes in. But the no backup thing definitely needs improvement.

$399 in Denmark
They change the price regularly for no apparent reason
Can I point my photoprism app to my NAS for storage?
But did it "kinda" just work? And did you have fun?
With the Umbrel now being $399, would you recommend it? Seems very attractive at that price.
The umbrel site says it's $399 not $600, unless I'm missing something
Yeah umbrel just lowered the price today or yesterday without saying anything about it
How do you back it up?
it is possible to add an external storage (for plex) to Umbrel Home ?
asking the real questions here
Looks a bit like CasaOS
But did it just work?

It's a little black box, duh!!! :)
What I really want to know is, does it just work?
Work for what?
Interesting...thanks, Will & Katy
if you can install all the apps you need on it natively is there any need for docker/portainer?
Would this work on a pi 3b+? Have one spare
yes, it works
@@Enzoerb can’t even remember what it was now 🤣
Sorry to be thick, what does this product provide that I need? Thanks Will
Self hosted cloud services
More fun than expected and it just works. Besides that it works and it is fun. And it works.
@@agnishom But why this instead of say TrueNAS, Unraid, etc...
But no docker even as an app?
It has Docker, and Portainer app, plus a vscode thing, and Gitea
So what is it? 🤔
Does the system that comes installed on it come inside an Ubuntu?
what browser is this and how did you set it up?
safari
I hope you are honest all the time. 0:06

You can install it on your own hardware if you want!
For real not even the software is worth it
@@Kevin-oj2uo I don't hink you and I are the target audience, some of my non techy friends might like this quite a lot.

price is a joke
Random-At first glance I thought you were Andrew Rannells
Dam $600
it's small !
expensive casaos
$600? I just created my own for $30 lmfao and it’s on better hardware
