Meant to post this Saturday night, but the editing took longer than expected and I got caught up with finals, sorry I’m a couple days late! Let me know how you emailed coaches + what your recruiting process looked like! 👇🏼
Thank you for the tips in the video! I'm in my senior year of high school and just finished off our high school season and wasn't able to do club this year. So I am definitely way behind on the recruiting process this year. I'm so glad this video came up on my suggestions! Thank you!
In October of my junior year. Im happy a recruit guide said that as long as i reach out to schools I'll definitely find a team that accepts me. Wish me luck guys.
Good job on your video Josh. Thanks for taking the time to do this for others. Helpful advice I'll share with my son who is looking to swim in college.
Josh, If I were a coach and stumbled onto this email, I'd make some time in my schedule to meet you. The maturity you show is the real intangible coaches search for. DO you think a short intro video by the athlete, if it is right for him or her, makes sense in addition to the typical skills videos and game footage?
Thank you so much man , I started doing this yesterday sunce i am entering my junior year pf high school and did not start my recruiting process but schools are already getting back tk me
I think personal email is probably better to make sure they see it but it is more convenient and easy to message them thru NCSA, I’d try 1 of those methods and then the other later if they don’t respond
Hey Josh, really appreciate such an informative and thorough video. I’ve seen you saying in the comments that coaches can’t reply/interact with players until their junior year. Can you provide more clarification on that? I’m about to begin the second semester of my sophomore year in high school. I am planning on sending out the “intro” emails you talked about in this video to my selected colleges. But if the coaches can’t interact with me, what’s the point of sending out emails? Should I just wait until my junior year? (Disclaimer: I play basketball, not soccer, but I figured this video is applicable for all sports). Thanks!
Hey Michell, thank you! According to NCSA (I just quickly googled this), for most sports coaches can’t reach out to athletes till June 15 after their sophomore year or sep 1 of their junior year. Because of that, there honestly isn’t much reason to email coaches before that other than to get on their radar early, but this would only really be worth your time if you are a d1 prospect since they recruit early. I’d say till those dates it’s best to just focus on your grades and improving as a player, then get film and start emailing once they can reply back
Hey Josh thanks for the video I am trying to grow in RUclips and appreciate the video. I have some questions though. One, what year and what time are coaches allowed to respond to your emails? Usually I send out my emails to the assistant coaches. because I feel they have a better chance of being seen. I know ideally you would send it to the whole staff, but Do you think this is a good strategy or should I send it to the head coach? Also can you get both academic and athletic scholarship money? Thank you.
Thank you, Nice to meet you man! I’m pretty sure once your junior year of hs starts they can directly talk to you. I would definitely try to send it out to all the coaches, because certain coaches have more responsibility over recruiting but if you had to pick one I’d go for the head coach. And yes you can! NCAA D3 is the only division that can’t offer athletic scholarships.
From using it myself and from what I know it’s one of the best recruiting websites, I made a video talking about some of the different recruiting sites if you wanna check it out!
Oh okay, some of those bigger schools can be harder to find emails. Try this list out from Spencer moeller, it should have their email- spencermoeller.com/collections/marketing-tools/products/ncaa-d1-mens-college-soccer-emails
What’s up man, I would send the introductory emails for now, but for D1s and D2s it might be better to send more direct emails since they get their recruiting done earlier. Wish you the best bro, if you have any other questions I’m here!
Yes! I’d recommend keeping it fairly short, but let them know you’re still training and working out, then inform of your plans for next year/season, and ask them a question like “what should me next step be to play college soccer or attend ___ university?”
Of course! Here’s a guideline/example- Hi Coach Lastname, I wanted to update you on what I’ve been up to during this pandemic and since our club season was cut short. I have been practicing individually 6 times a week as well as working out 5 days a week. I am also planning on sticking with my club, Benfica FC, next year and so far we plan on starting our season at the regular time. For now, what should I do to get one step closer to becoming a student athlete at Schreiner University? Sincerely, Josh Newlin (Link to Highlight Film) (Link to Recruiting Profile/Website)
I don’t remember exactly but it was in between the best and worst subscription. My tips are to use all the features on NCSA you can that will benefit you, but also understand that not every coach will use NCSA so if they don’t reply try contacting them another way
He’s still early if he’s a freshman in high school! Coaches can’t even reply or reach out to players until their junior year starts, so he’s ahead of the game if he’s starting now!
Yes I would recommend that you start now and work on making one, in the mean time send them your soccer cv/resume and update them on your schedule so they could see you play!
I’m just heading into my junior year of high school where I’ll be playing varsity for the first time, is it worth contacting colleges now with my JV tape or waiting tell I get some play in on varsity
Oh okay, it might be better to wait till you get varsity film. At the same time tho you don’t want to wait no long to start emailing coaches to get on their radar
Honestly, I wouldn’t be too worried about emailing college coaches if you’re a freshman, just focus on becoming a better athlete and footballer, sophomore you should start reaching out and putting together highlights, a resume and a recruiting profile
Sorry for the late response, but I would recommend emailing now to get their attention and get on their radar if they are a big d1 school, any other division recruits later so you can wait till junior year probably.
I’ve never heard of them only having phone numbers lol, but it could be a good idea to formally text them and include a link to your highlights, and tell them about your gpa and other important information
Yo bro I do track and field, specifically long jump, should I email like all the coaches (sprints, long distance, hurdles, jumping) or only the head coach?
That’s a good question man, I would email the coach for your specific event first and then at the schools that didn’t reply to that first round of emails probably go back and email coaches of the other events too
It normally depends on the division of the school, the lower the division the more likely they are to reply. For example, I emailed about 85 schools and got maybe 20 replies, only 2-4 of those were D1 schools

Thank you man! Do you mean an intro video like recording yourself describing your attributes, grades, and awards?
needed this. i actually used one of these methods and i got a response he said keep us updated lol. but thanks
I’m glad to hear it’s worked for you man, just keep working hard and putting yourself out there it’ll pay off

Thanks bro, same to you!

You did a great job Josh.
Thank you Quammie🙌🏼
Amazing video. Well done
Thank you!! 🙌🏼
Good morning, I enjoyed your video. If I have NCSA account do you suggest that we email the coaches through their or through their personal email?
I think personal email is probably better to make sure they see it but it is more convenient and easy to message them thru NCSA, I’d try 1 of those methods and then the other later if they don’t respond
Thanks
Thank you!!!!

Solid
Hey Josh, great video, really helped me send out my last minute senior year emails. How long did it usually take the coaches to respond? Thanks
Thank you, glad to hear that! Normally they replied within a few days
What’s up bro I’m bout to be a sophomore in high school . I don’t have film till September, and tips I also do some workouts in my backyard
What’s up man! That’s alright, you’re getting started early so just keep training and get film for highlights once you can 🙌🏼

yo josh whats that microphone you used?
I use the Boya by M1 Lavalier Mic! I just use an adapter and plug it into my iPhone, you can find it on amazon
how often should I send emails- i hear its sophomore, once every 2 months, junior, once a month, senior, twice a month
What are your thoughts on NCSA?
From using it myself and from what I know it’s one of the best recruiting websites, I made a video talking about some of the different recruiting sites if you wanna check it out!
From experience its the best
some schools i’ve looked into have recruiting coaches, should I email them or the head coach?
Tbh man, I’ve never heard of that but if you have the time I’d email both!
you play for schriener? I met the coach a couple weeks ago at a camp and enjoyed talking to him
Yes sir, that’s dope man! If you have any questions about Schreiner hit me up 🤙🏼
If a program had multiple coaches, would you recommend emailing them together or separately?
It’d be a good idea to email them together! If they don’t respond the first time try again or email them separately
You didn't show your whole letter. Anyhow congrats for being accepted
So I’m looking at the d1 school Oklahoma university and it’s only giving me there Twitter no email

hey josh i’m a junior in high school right now and school ends in june. do you think i should send the late emails or the introductory emails
What’s up man, I would send the introductory emails for now, but for D1s and D2s it might be better to send more direct emails since they get their recruiting done earlier. Wish you the best bro, if you have any other questions I’m here!
Should I send an email for an update about what I have been doing during the virus? If so how should I structure it
Yes! I’d recommend keeping it fairly short, but let them know you’re still training and working out, then inform of your plans for next year/season, and ask them a question like “what should me next step be to play college soccer or attend ___ university?”
Josh Newlin could you type out a short template for it or like explain on the plans or so
Of course! Here’s a guideline/example-

Josh Newlin thank you so much
No problem! If you ever have any more questions be sure to ask me!
If I want send film should I do after every game or like just kelp them updated mid season and then end of season
I would do probably end of every season unless your seasons run really long
what ncsa membership level did you get? I’m starting my profile now that i’m a freshman. any tips
I don’t remember exactly but it was in between the best and worst subscription. My tips are to use all the features on NCSA you can that will benefit you, but also understand that not every coach will use NCSA so if they don’t reply try contacting them another way
Hi! I dont know if your still checking this account but I received an auto reply to my first email, how should I follow up.
Hi I'm a international student and wanting to email coaches and get a scholarship
Wish you the best with that! Let me know if you have any questions along the way
What do u do when they send butttttn isn’t doing anything
You mean when coaches haven’t replied to you?
I'm a international student so how I can calculate my GPA?
To be honest man, I have no idea
Hey man
What’s up bro
Can you send link bro?
The link for what?
If my son is a freshman and is just now starting his recruiting stuff, is that too late or does he still have a chance?
He’s still early if he’s a freshman in high school! Coaches can’t even reply or reach out to players until their junior year starts, so he’s ahead of the game if he’s starting now!
hey do you mind sharing what app you used to list your colleges?
I used NCSA!
I'm late but even if I dont have a highlight video should I still email coaches ? I am a junior in high school.
Yes I would recommend that you start now and work on making one, in the mean time send them your soccer cv/resume and update them on your schedule so they could see you play!
@@JoshNewlinPerformance Thank you I appreciate it !!
Absolutely, if you have any other questions don’t hesitate to ask!

What do we say to the college coaches if your a freshman

Yes, you can still do all of this without a recruiting profile
Hey man I’m a freshman playing varsity high and I was wondering if I sent a email to the coach should I do it or wait it off til sophomore or junior
Sorry for the late response, but I would recommend emailing now to get their attention and get on their radar if they are a big d1 school, any other division recruits later so you can wait till junior year probably.
What if they don’t have emails but number like Alabama football
I’ve never heard of them only having phone numbers lol, but it could be a good idea to formally text them and include a link to your highlights, and tell them about your gpa and other important information
