As a chicken owner myself, just make sure you lower their roosting bar once you cut the feathers. They ain't gonna be able to roost if it's 7 ft up.

Pro tip for catching chickens. Play the song “Turkey in the straw” really loud while chasing them. It doesn’t necessarily make them easier to catch, but it does make it more entertaining for everybody watching.

That's not what im worried about. If he wants theit wings clipped so they can't fly out, they can't fly if a predator manages to get in and goes after them. Theyll be dead. Then the guy is going to blame the poor predator even tho HE was the one who clipped their wings and hindered their ability fo fly, so then hes going to go hunt and murder that poor animal for just trying to survive and probably bring back food for their kids

Another tactic, put a chicken wire skirt along the top. Just need a foot or so. Then cut the top so theres no definitive top wire. If they dont see a solid horizontal wire at the top then they dont realize the wire ends. They wont fly out of it. Pretty effective at keeping them in and as a bonus helps keep racoons and possoms out. They dont like to climb wobbly wire.

Figured out over the past 15 years of keeping chickens, if the people they know treat them well and respect them, be gentle and don't be threatening to them. They will remember that and they won't be crazy or mean to you. Our last generation we have been doing that with, now we have 5 chickens, including our two roosters that will let you pick them up and hold them, and they trust us so much that we can even lift and move their wings without them flinching or getting scared. Apparently chickens have very good memory and are very sensitive lol

Now anytime I’m outside they all run up to me to be held (we call this “uppies ♥️). I can easily cut their wings without a fuss from most of them. It’s harder to train this when they’re older though for sure. Gotta start young pulling their wings from their body or they’ll always try and escape. I can even do this with my roosters but they’re less affectionate of course. They have a job to do and won’t stay still long.

@@mark_szekeres Yes, Mark. Very good. Birds moult! But Problem is that it takes a long time for all of the primary feathers to regrow, even longer if the bird is under environmental or mental stress. And tell me, do you think that their owner is going to leave them alone if they regain their ability to fly? No, then he has the problem of them running away again so, the easiest awnser is to clip them again.
Additionally, while clipped the birds will still try to use their wings, or in the case of the video be thrown apparently which both can lead to injuries to the bird. This is why it is mostly discouraged when it comes to pets like parrots or parakeets, not so much for poultry, but it is still something I'd still not recommend because the loss of their ability to fly can cause unnecessary stress.
