Once I pulled into a parking space and put down the headlights and a little 5 year old boy screamed, "Whooooooa!" That honest reaction, more than anything else, made me proud of my car.
I think that was all of us the first time we saw it lol
My car has pop-ups, yet I still get excited every time I see another car with pop-ups.

What actually got me into cars with pop up headlights was a meme that had a Miata with the entire hood as one giant pop up headlight and the description was something like "The guy behind me at night."

Miatas are JUST Great for trackdays and summer cruises. I live in norway, we have very limited syn and heat and we dont really have thst many tracks, that is why i personally believe that Miatas are overrated as f*ck

Yep, the 63 vette is certainly a looker. I particularly like the split rear window. Don't know what has happened to car styling over the years. Classic cars are so much easier on the eye than some of the monstrosities cutting about today.

The face is just pen tooled and then set to move at the right time frame so that it matches up perfectly.

@@Revoxem If you need to get something big from Home Depot, they rent small trucks for a very reasonable price, at least the one by me does. I know from experience, I had a NA Miata as my only car for about 5 years.

One thing I kinda wonder if headlights you see on late 60's GTOs, Camaros and Chargers would also count. They technically work in a similar fashion, but are just hidden differently (as part of the grille instead of part of the body).
I think headlights like that do deserve a honourable mention too due to their different approach to the same mechanism (minus the ERRRRR DYNAMICS benefit but big plus for the looks).
I like the idea of a car being designed around not even having visible headlights by default

when the legonda popped up i wasnt impressed honestly, but between the touch sensitive buttons, luxury features and TEN LIGHTS. Respect.
My biggest memory of pop ups is those corvettes that had em. I remember when I was like 6 I saw them absolutely all around town and they were more common than the non pop ups somehow. Interesting to think back on how different the streets are nowadays, hearing my dad say he used to see Supras on the daily is crazy to think about.

One car that could have been added to the list is the 1974-1976 Bricklin SV1 manufactured and built in New Brunswick Canada by Malcolm Bricklin. Who is the same person who brought the Japanese Company Subaru into the United States.
A guy at a rest stop i was at was driving an orange Bricklin and needed something to keep his muffler up... This Joe had an almighty coathanger to save the day bwahahahahaha!!!

Nope, I got it right. The F40 was an iconic car, but it doesn't have the legacy or influence of the Corvette. If the Corvette hadn't been on this list, it would have been inaccurate.

I’d love to see these come back. One thing that I think would be great would relocating the locations. Imagine instead of it being in the front it was located further back like mid hood. That’s give the intake plenty of room for air scoopin! Or you could have lights that don’t up up like how these do but have them open up and the metal above them folds may King Bc a triangle kind of shape with the body. I’d love to see that.
Except they absolutely murder the everliving FUCK out of any pedestrians unlucky enough to be in collisions with cars with them, but suuure..... Go on...

Most iconic popup headlights for me, 87 Honda Prelude 2.0 Si, they were everywhere when i was a kid lol
I had one too, a red one and I thought it was the sexiest cars ever at the time! When I got out of my Prelude I felt like a supermodel with that perfect fan blown hair! I loved that car!

My first car was a '91 Celica GTS... The headlights were one of my favorite parts about it. That, and the 2.2L was BULLETPROOF.

My brother owned a SA22 (FB) back in the day and the FC became my all time favorite car and my dream car and I ended up owning 2 S4 FC's. The FC has my favorite pop ups of all time as well, can't wait to own a few more again, except one will be a stock GXL, then a T2, and of course highly modified 20b or 26b eventually.
In high school, late 90s, I had a Nissan pulsar NX. Loved that car with its pop up and down headlights!

Helped my uncle put a new engine in his Conquest when I was 15. Sweet little cars, turbo i4, hooked up to a 5 speed, and an lsd rear end. Very fun car.

First car I ever bought was a 4th gen Celica for $700. Very first thing I did after getting it was fix the pop up headlights. Loved them. Bought a 6th gen Celica after that, and was disappointed it no longer had them. I've always wanted a 5th gen for a project car.
I had 2 cars with pop up, up and down lights an 89 Prelude and a 96 Probe GT and I loved them. I used to flip the switch on/off to get them out of sync to mess with people.
