I'm watching while looking through a bundle of patterns I got at the thrift store today. The section on S9820 strapless knit dress and shrug was playing when I pulled out Simplicity 8764 dated 1999: strapless knit dress with "jacket" (it's a shrug). A weird coincidence that makes me feel like I should make it tonight to appease the Universe.
Lindsay, can we just assume the baby is VELOCRO"d onto the coordinating blanket?? I mean, I have a 7 month old granddaughter!!. But seriously, you had me cracking up on this one!!! LOL. Enjoy your reviews so much!! ( I can so relate to your sarcastic sense of humor.) Keep on bringing it!
The patterns that I like the most will be great for late teens and 20s. I love the cream version of Mimi G's 'boiler suit'--the slimmer pant with the taller pockets and pleats. The sizing is more balanced for a fuller figure. That one may need to be with me soon. Thank you, Lindsey. Great to see you back, too!
Thank you for your review. Love your attention to detail which is very helpful as I don’t notice all the details until after I have the pattern in my possession. The zipper-flap looks more like a zipper-pad to me. Guess it could be worse; it could have been quilted. During your commentary on these pants I had to pause the video because I was laughing so hard. Your humor is priceless. OMG…let’s sew the baby onto the blanket and why not our puppies too. Let’s sew the whole family on one while we are at it. Humor aside, your reviews are really informative and helpful. Thank you so much!
I look forward to these videos. Recently watched a number of them going back 4 years trying to look for older patterns I may like that might be still in print.
Yeah! I've been waiting for this. Excited to watch it now... OK I'm back. The only pattern I will buy is the pants, camisole and cardigan one. This was a great video for entertainment value. The jockstrap pants made me LOL!
Great commentary on the collection, as always - thank you. Some really interesting patterns but the usual unexpectedly bizarre combinations are I guess the norm now. Hopefully those "cod piece" flaps on the S9823 pants aren't the next big thing, lol. I have mixed feelings about some of the fit related wrinkles. We are so prone to overfitting/ the expectation of NO wrinkling or folds at all these days that a bit of wrinkling here and there I think is actually a realistic thing to see and I'm glad on some level that everything isn't smoothed out into oblivion.
#9823 has a chastity panel or a panel designed to sell incontinence products. It is odd, who needs detail on that part of their body? Great to have you back.
A convertible collar is what you call a camp shirt collar. It means you could leave it open as shown or put a tiny button and loop at the front edge so you can close it to the neck. We see these collars on men's Hawaiian type shirts.
I couldn’t put my finger on why the capsule pattern looked dated with the cardigan, but I think it’s the pockets. It’s a pretty sophisticated look with a basic pocket on the sweater. I would omit the pocket all together. I would also try to make it more fitted. I think it would balance it out.
Woo hoo 🎉 been waiting for this! Can’t wait to see more fall first impressions. Thanks for the videos, I’m a new sewist and really appreciate your content. 🎃 🍁 ☕️
Very diplomatic review of a lackluster collection from what has become the Big One. Sad. Each season used to offer a wealth of new looks, colors, photographs and drawings to stir the imagination. Now...the staid Simplicity company offers me codpiece pants, which nearly made me spew my Diet Coke all over my keyboard. Now I must see the other collections but I'm not too optimistic. Anyway, thanks for your great work, Lindsay!
Simplicity 9821 view A would look better with a high front and low back peplum instead of the asymetrical peplum imo. 9823, I did not care for the flap on the pants. Yeah, I'm with you regarding the baby stuck on the mat.... so weird lol! 😂
First pattern: when I saw B my immediate thought was it looks like faux leather, faux suede could look good too if you went with the animal print cos it’ll appear more like an actual corset over a shirt, especially if you lace up the corset part and button up above and below it. There are elements of the design that I like but not all together because I agree that it’s a lot. A convertible/notched/revere collar doesn’t have a stand but a facing so when you wear it open the right side of the fabric shows, you can also wear it closed so it’s kinda like a one collar, two ways situation. I was recently looking for a shirt pattern with that type of collar and Hawaiian shirts and bowling shirts came up and as far as I can tell the difference is that the lapels are bigger on those and I don’t think they’re made to be worn closed. I love a good jump/boilersuit and although I wouldn’t wear it, the yellow dress with attached shrug I really like. Thanks for another great laugh, the bumble bee baby reminds me of those targets you stick to the wall that have Velcro on them that you throw ‘arrows’ at and they stick 😂
I like 9827! Nice to get all those pieces in one pattern! I think though, that I would prefer a pant with less fabric -with the bulkier knit sweater. I think if you're going bulkier on top you need more slimming on the bottom, and visa versa.. :+) The 9824 is nice, also! Thank you!!
This was a weird mix of patterns!!!! An early 2000's Shania Twain shirt opens the Fall selection, sister-wives have two ***TWO*** capsule wardrobe patterns, fabric beehives, 1950's blouses, hats & dickies... it's like Simplicity is being run by Cracker Barrel. I could see Maison Margiela or Ann Demuelmister doing jockstrap-fly pants in black or ivory wool. You'd have to style them with either a wifebeater or a turtleneck, no jewelry. I'd be willing to give these bad boys a go! Mimi's boiler suit was SUPER cute, but I'd interface the front button area to keep it from gaping. Her coat was really nice too! I think ever since Mimi has been with Norris, her designs have been getting better and better! That loose fitting blazer is done so beautifully but it just gets lost in all the insanity. It's OK blazer, I see you 😢
That codpiece on those pants, though 👀🤣 Choices were made.
Sleeve head ! Love the first impressions. So fun to get preview. Thanks

Lol. A husband sewn into one of those would be hilarious!
OMG you made me laugh so hard over the baby bumble costume!!!! Sooooooo funny😅
Fridays just aren't the same since you stopped doing the first impression reviews! Loved this video❤
I was so happy to see you back! Your Upton made me want to make one also.
You should!
I look forward to these videos. Recently watched a number of them going back 4 years trying to look for older patterns I may like that might be still in print.
I have been checking for your big four fall review!! Thanks for this!! Ok time for me to watch now 😂.
Hope you like it!

Thanks for the review so glad to see you back with the videos!
More to come!
The pants do look like it has jock strap attached😂😂
It does! Its strange.

Woman don’t need a front flap S9823😟

Yay! Thank you!
Agree, the front flap on 9824 is a little strange. At first glance it looked like a fly front on men’s underwear. 😮

Your first instinct was correct. It does look like a jock strap and it's not cool.
As you were saying the model looked like a marshmellow. I was saying she looked like a polar bear. Definitely for a very thin lady!

omg the codpiece casual trouser is not a look i predicted for fall :D :D
Is the baby trapped? Lol. Thank you, Lindsey. :)

Omg! Pin the baby on the donkey!

I totally agree!

Agree with everything here. The jockstrap pants keep coming back into my mind.
@@InsidetheHemIf you bought the frilly elbow-hole jacket you can buy the jockstrap fly pants

You review was nice but there wasn't much to review. Disappointing fall patterns.
The pink plaid wool long jacket is really nice, but the front buttons don’t match. I think that takes away from the otherwise well-made look.
90s vibe 😞
I'm stumped.... Where on earth do they get their trend direction from. Absolutely awful collection. Very disappointing. Thanks for your review though.
