Another greatly appreciated thumb picking lesson! This is the first Merle/Chet style song I learned to play....sorta....your lesson is a much better version than mine so I am working on it right now. Thanks!
Great tutorial for intermediate players like me ..need to learn and ractice both travis style and all them melodic variations/ chords in Key of E TY much Chris
People down thumb think modern rock is intricate.lol....This is the real deal here...True work to pattern your brain for this..Salute to you, real time put in and that Dread sounding rich.....Enjoyed!!!
Really like your videos mate, well explained but concise. I started really getting into Travis picking a few years ago and your video on Baby's Coming Home was really helpful, as was this. Keep it up. 👍
Would you teach me , give me a lesson with Zoom or Duo etc THE WHOLE THING ? Some of the jazzier chords go by too fast haha and then 2nd part off the B Barre chord can't catch..Thnx!
It's cool lesson& that's a great lick where you slide up to the 7th and 9th fret w/ the jazzy mystery chord? thank you ! haha yeah also this guy Fred Sokolow teaches good Travis picking too so Thnx!
IDIGMUZAK Travis picking is a good place to start. Don't get hung up on somebody else's technique find what is most intuitive for you first and refine later. I fingerpick by allocating all 5 fingers to e+a on thumb and rest in order. Some people use three fingers some two some do a lot just with thumb pick and rest of fingers to brush off. You won't know what comes easy for you until you practice what feels best.
Tommy Emannuel (Aussie friend of Chet A) does a great pattern video' tutorial all over youtube.. Just setting moving your ring finger from a C to a G and running that bass patterns to separate your thumb from rest he says..Sure working for me...Must be able to run it while talking, walking, singing, jumping, nuclear impact.lol...
I actually recorded the sound with a Tascam DR-22WL hand held recorder which is on a table out of the view of the camera. No effects or anything just straight from the mic to the computer then sync the audio with the video. Thats it
tntcustomchoppers it does look like a large sound hole doesn’t it? It’s actually just a stock Martin D15 from around 2002. The sound hole looks much bigger than the D35 I’m playing.. I need to measure
Larry Stallings it’s a G chord. It’s the normal G Major Bar Chord except instead of barring the entire 3rd fret with your first finger you fret the first 2 strings with your first finger and wrap your thumb around to catch the low e string on the 3rd fret. He sometimes played this song in G or in E like I do here
You're a super hero for working this out. I'll be coming back to this vid to learn the whole sequence.
that guitar sounds amazing.
it does sound pretty
Gents that’s a B aug with a sharped fifth. Great lesson Chris! You’re concise, but super easy to get👍🏽

Great video, thanks. BTW, that's a B aug (B+) chord that you slide up to.
More exactly it's a B9#5. Then going from the C# to the B it becomes a B7#5.
Looks fun!

Slow the video down to .5 or whatever, and practice practice practice. It takes a while, but keep at it.

Great great job you play really good but what you just did with the Travis picking style can you create a tablature for it?
Are you plugged in, how do you get that great sound. Compression?, what makes it sounds so crisp and even.

D-35?
WHEN I WATCHED THE BLACK AND WHITE YOU TUBE OF TRAVIS PLAYING THIS SONG FROM 1951, WHATS THE CHORD IS HE USING ON THIRD FRET WHEN HE STARTS THE SONG?
Larry Stallings it’s a G chord. It’s the normal G Major Bar Chord except instead of barring the entire 3rd fret with your first finger you fret the first 2 strings with your first finger and wrap your thumb around to catch the low e string on the 3rd fret. thanks , you play great @@ChrisHodge
Do you have a tab for this song?
What kind of strings are these ? Size and material wise
Fares Jandali these would have been Elixir Phosphor Bronze Nanoweb Custom Light Gague (.011-.052)
Your voice sounds like a buffed country john mayer
