3 yrs clean from eating animals, when looking back on it, it's very disturbing that we were raised to eat that way

    • @Alpha-gk6hd
      @Alpha-gk6hd 5 лет назад +20

It actually isnt, if you look at history. When farming or hunting, look at what animals they would eat. Meat used to be a treat, a treat because it was hard to hunt and kill. Farming exploited that but naturally harvesting them took longer and no doubt healthier. Each culture is different, people eat snakes, tarantulas, other insects, crocodiles etc.
Each animal tastes different, some not being used to eat some animal could get grossed out or hate how it tastes, period.
Another thing the video doesnt talk about is how pets like cats, dogs etc. we evolved alongside them being our buddies, so its like killing our friend. It is our culture that accepted these beings that made them acceptable.
Proof that it is culture? Cat meat is sold in africa, south china in guansong and guanxi.
Korea, japan, vietnam also consumed them but in recent years they decided liking them as pets and didnt want them to get eaten soooo
In europe the same thing, during famine periods they were eaten too.
Bears can rely on just vegetables when no meat is available or vice versa.
We are also omnivores, your body can handle it. Pussy out if you want to.
You should be talking about the co2 emissions and how laws should increase animal welfare conditions in farming. Farming uses a lot of water, crops and antibiotics. Talk about how animals that dont live happy actually affect meat quality which is also worse for us BUT NAHHH WE SHOULD BE EATING ALL ANIMALS RATHER THAN JUST 4.
i am up for better conditions for animals in farms, not for their benefit but for my eating habits and health.
The best type of diet is vegetables to get your minerals and cover your protein intake with lean meat to not have extreme amounts of fat and in fact meat has higher protein. Just dont eat processed crap.
Vegan and vegetarians should at least get some b12 and iron supplements.
      Bottom line? We are omnivores

@@Alpha-gk6hd co2 emission? That's the least of my worries. 5G network is being turned on. The switch was flipped on in 2 major cities, Minneapolis and Chicago, on April 4th, 2019. The very first 5G Network up and running. All countries have a limit to the density of NM waves. Most countries keep it at 3 to 7 NM even though 0.5 NM shows health risks. Not America. Here, we've raised the bar with a limit set to 500 to 1000 NM. To top it off, insiders working for these network companies now have laws in place making it illegal to even bring up the issues at city hall meetings. This is getting bad.

I am twelve yrs old and decided to go vegan half a year ago.
My parents often try to convince me to eat "normally" but I can't even look eat meat. Most people are smiling at me like "this naive little child has no idea" when I tell that I'm vegan.
It is an awful feeling when nobody takes you serious.
I believe in my age it's worse than when you're older.
However, no matter how old you are, most people will never change their minds and always find stupid "excuses" for why they are not vegan:
"But animal products are just so delicious", "But I can't eat anything as a vegan",...
I still do my best in convincing others to go vegan (Proud to say that two of my friends don't eat animal products anymore bc of me!).
Edit 10 months later: yea im not vegan anymore bc it affected my health in a bad way (im still vegetarian tho) sorry but thanks for all your supportive comments

Your wondering was a premonition and very correct. My daddy used to tell me a lot that red meat was killing us (but we all ate it anyway). I believee at that time, he was entering into his disease of CHF heart disease and was trying to figure it out (cause the docs did not know anything), and doing his own research. Sadly, he did not make it as in 1983 at the age of 58 he died of CHF disease. After that time in 1985 Dr. Campbell's information on the blue zones (and how long people live in other parts of the world) came out in the book the China Study. If only we knew then what we know now and that daddy was right, he might have lived a longer healthier life. All the information was in its infantcy back then. BTW I was diagnosed with CHF at age 52 in 2010 - I resigned myself to death like my father, but no, G-d sent me wisdom, knowledge and healing, and with the change of lifestyle and foods I eat, I have cured my CHF! Praise be to G-d!

I'm a biologist. I specifically studied mammalian dentition.
There are multiple points to address, when trying to determine the validity of a vegan diet for humans from a biological perspective.
    1. The way your teeth are shaped say a lot about your diet, which I am sure you already know.
Placental mammals, regardless of diet, have incisors, canines, premolars, and molars (with the exception of a few, like dolphins, which have monodont dentition, meaning all their teeth are of one variety).
The canines myself and my cat have are incredibly different. She has sharp canines, and over years of evolution, cats have "lost" a lot of other teeth. They don't need them. They are true carnivores.
Dogs are omnivores, like bears. Lots of flat teeth in the back, and sharpish canines to cut through any meat they might eat.
And seriously, look at our teeth. We have canines, but they aren't sharp. Biologists use these shapes to make inferences about EVERY SINGLE ANIMAL'S DIET. It works on all of them, because your body is made to make sense with its lifestyle. Your body is designed perfectly to support your health.
No, I don't think we are meant to eat meat. We have cognitive capacity that exceeds that of most other animals, so if we are stranded somewhere or need to do gruesome things to survive, we can and will. We have been capable of building tools to kill prey, when our own bodies couldn't physically do it. Could you imagine us without tools trying to hunt meat? Would you chase an animal down and bite into its back? Or would you strangle it to death?
... But we don't need to fight to survive like that anymore. Walk to the store and pick out whatever you want that is within your budget. Chances are, meat will be a less affordable way to consume calories and nutrients anyway.
    2. Fibrous foods are a workout for your gut. It's not normal or healthy to be sluggish or overweight or frankly even that aggressive.
You're beautiful and if value regardless of what you look like, but carnism is making a sacrifice to live a certain way, and that sacrifice is their clarity, agility, and lifespan. It's a statement about your self worth.
    3. Dairy. Oh my god, where do I start.
Women are used and produced for further production. I know lots of people who don't think twice about drinking milk, but fiercely defend their pets against being castrated. There is an inherent sexism involved with carnism.
Biologically speaking, all placental mammals are birthed, and then fed a diet of milk. Rats breastfeed and so do whales. Whale milk is thick like cottage cheese. With time, the animal adapts to its new diet, and is weaned off the milk.
Could you imagine a grown ass man following his mom around on the sidewalk asking for milk or grabbing at her? It's disgusting.
I don't want any man to have ownership over my tits and their productive capacity, but isn't that how it all works?
What do you mean by "I want to hear a biologist's take on this"? Is this just a defense?
I honestly think the only reason I'm vegan now is for purely selfish reasons. The bias affects all of us. So if you're angry, you're not alone, but it's ok to be wrong. This is a mistake most of us have made too.
I learned through an earth science class about the environmental benefits of cutting out meat, and so I went vegetarian. Only after this bias was removed, because I thought the choice was made by me, and my ethics weren't really in question, was it then easier to consider veganism. Had I still been a meat eater, idk if it would have been that easy to lower my defenses and accept that I was participating in something so awful.

Many people still believe we are biologically designed to eat meat and trying to convince them other wise falls on deaf ears. Then there's the argument of imposing on their civil liberties. You covered everything with the exception of one thing I believe also has a deleterious affect on society which is the psychology of producing meat and the mental health affects it must have on people in the trenches who perform these horrific acts on innocents daily. It's understandable that they do it because they have families to feed. But others seem to derive immense pleasure from torturing and killing. While those collecting the big salaries get to callously turn a blind eye.

Well delivered message. I ate meat and dairy my whole life growing up. I had a real spiritual awakening that began to happen a few years ago finally in Jan 2018 I discovered the brutality and horrors of the meat & Dairy industry. I went vegan & never looked back. I haven’t been sick not even once. Despite being around countless people with Flu’s and colds working side by side with them. I eat raw organic fruits, vegetables, beans, carbs, juicing everyday & vegan protein shakes. I feel more alive & healthy than I ever have in my whole entire life. This couldn’t be more true when you become aware everything changes. I became vegan for the animals originally and what I’ve found is I’m contributing so much more with one choice. We have every reason to life this lifestyle & only 1 reason not to... it tastes good... but so does a lot of other foods. I also save $ now because jackfruit, beans, artichokes, cauliflower are all cheaper than slaughtered animal flesh and might I add the saying “ you are what you eat” rings truth to it. These animals die miserably, frightened, they die fighting for their lives 💔 those vibrations exist in the meat you buy at the market and digesting that you become that vibration. Everything is energy. Choose wisely. Eat life not death 🌱

I am not saying every single farm that has ever existed is that way I spoke about in my comment 2 YEARS ago. But today plenty and many , too many are. That’s just the facts. If things were the way they use to be none of us would be vegan. Understand that I understand time and evolution. What makes sense in its appropriate time. If my family were dying of starvation or there weren’t other options to eat for survival purposes I am positive I would do that wise thing and eat whatever protein or food source was available. But times change, things change, it’s life and it’s inevitable. That’s all that I meant and am saying. Our planet cannot sustain this current system.

I think even if you eat meat you should do it mindfully, like only every so often and something that’s not a mammal like fish. Even though this might not be ethically right, it’s still better than eating meat everyday like most do. Even if everyone ate only ate meat once a week that would make a tremendous difference for our planet. People might not necessarily need to be vegan, but they should strive as much as possible towards that ideal, if not live it completely. It’s a gradual change.

After watching that documentary, I could not believe we would perpetuate a vicious cycle.
I googled "why do we eat meat" and I came across your video.
I totally resonate with your ideas and to take it one step further, its materialism that breeds "carnism."
We dont feel connected to each other, we believe we are all separate and isolated from one another.
Materialism stems from our understanding of the nature of reality.
This understanding is shifting and we are beginning to realize that this world is not made of matter, it's made of data and information, consciousness.
    We are connected through consciousness.
once we see that we are all connected, we will end Carnism, along with many other destructive belief systems.

@@aelipaeli5857 for me personally as an athlete I do need meat. It's simply not possible for me to get the calories and all the protein I need from plants. And don't you dare say that "I'm just doing it wrong" you know nothing about my nutrition. Or the things I've tried or the experts I've talked to about my health. As long as it didn't resemble the animal, I was good. Eventually I woke up. I've been plant based for 5 yrs now with my health better and my conscience clear.

To me it's different because there were a lot fewer choices of foods to eat. In years past or in third world countries where they don't have easy access to grocery stores, I think eating meat is more necessary and therefore justifiable. I don't imagine that most people enjoy killing animals, but it's probably easier to handle when you know that it's necessary for your survival.

It still kinda falls apart in modern times, when most vegans would be malnutritioned unless they follow very specific diets. In many parts of the world, it's often impossible to satisfy a healthy dietary requirement if they didn't consume exotic plants imported from faraway lands or use nutritional supplements.
There are many vegans who are just as unhealthy as meat eaters.

I once believed the same, that veganism is hard to do and that it is likely to get health problems. But after i did my research, reading scientific papers, listen to experts, listen to people who promoted meat, i came to the conclusion that the opposite is true.
Most people don't get enough fiber (only about 3% get enough), potassium (only about 3%), vitamin E (only about 7%), magnesium and vitamin A [1]. All this nutrients are more common in plants than in meat.
In addition to the rules to eat healthy as a omnivore (avoid processed foods, eat different foods, eat nuts, eat flaxseeds, ...), a healthy vegan should also this simple rules: Eat enough (calories), supplement B12 (very important), use salt with iodine.
But vegans can ignore other rules that omnivore should care if they want to be healthy: Don't eat too many calories, eating enough plants, don't consume too much cholesterol, don't consume animal protein, don't consume too much fish (heavy metal, PCBs, ...).
Even as a omnivore, you should check or supplement B12, 39% of omnivores have low or too low levels of B12 [2].
Of course, you can be unhealthy as a vegan. Fake meat, chips, beer, oil and ores are all vegan but not healthy.
And there are many vegans who do not supplement B12 (sadly), which is dangerous [3].

      @ARTEMIS HAYDEN
It is true that plants do not have preformed vitamin A: Retinoic acid, retinol and retinal. But there is enough Vitamin A precursors to produce all the other forms of vitamin A out of it.
100g carrots has more vitamin A than a normal person needs on a single day [1]. Even with a bad conversion of beta-carrotine to other forms of vitamin A, it is very easy to get enough. That most people don't get the recommended amount of vitamin A just shows how little plants people eat.
The biggest factor for the conversion rate is the ammount of vitamin A in the diet [2], the human body adjust the conversion rate to the ammount needed.
Because of that, there is no risk in getting to much retinoic acid, retinol or retinal with eating vegetables.
In the other hand, 100g beef liver contains 7739mcg [1] preformed vitamin A, which is 2.5 times more than the tolerable upper intake of 3000 mcg [3].

I went vegan for 2 years and feel behind in b12 and omegas and now I go back and forth. Kayla Garcia it is difficult when you lead a busy life, work full time, have dependents and you are surrounded by carnism. Especially when the good nutrient dense foods that are technically cheaper to produce are priced up to three times more expensive. A good vegan meal is essentially a fancy sometimes warm salad but we pay prices that make it look like gourmet. The problem isn’t the choice or lifestyle, it’s how difficult the lifestyle has been made to live. We have to do research and learn how to cook and grocery shop all over again and when you are a lone vegan in a family of carnivores that’s when the lifestyle is difficult but it is still worth it.

First premise: I haven't wondered. Totally wrong, I've wondered.
Chickens reproduce much faster than swans, and are easier to keep as live stock.
Cows are not vermin, they don't steel our grain, and they don't defecate on our food. Also, their waste is much less toxic to us than that of mice. Not to mention, it takes a lot of mice to get enough muscle tissue to make a burger, while a single cow makes many many burgers. But also, we actually do eat mice, or at least we used to: the Edible Dormouse was a popular protein choice in Roman times.
Cow's produce more milk per animal that pigs. Also, because pigs were traditionally kept only until winter, and lived semi-feral lives, they could be dangerous to handle. Pigs multiply quickly, eat almost anything, and can survive in utter filth. They basically ate our kitchen scraps and food waste, and we recovered those calories when we slaughtered them in late fall. If you did keep a pig into the winter, you had to find a way to feed it in a season when feeding yourself might be difficult. Being historically semi-feral, pigs sometimes attacked other animals, or humans the perceived as weak: children, wounded or sick individuals, and drunks. So it's much more dangerous to try to milk a pig than a cow, and the amount of milk you get is going to be very small.
We do also milk goats and sheep, in industrial volumes, and there are cultures that prize horse milk, and reindeer milk. Horse meat and venison are also popular traditional protein choices, including in Europe where both animals have been eaten for centuries.
There are cultures that eat dogs. Most of us don't, because we've realized that dogs are much more useful alive than as meat. The same goes for cats, though they were raised for fur in the middle ages.
There are specific, and usually very practical reasons why we eat certain animals, but not others. It's not a weird conspiracy, it's typically just economics.

  • @nothinmulch
    @nothinmulch 5 лет назад +32

Arguments presented in this video, in no particular order (feel free to add):
Different cultures eat some animals and not others, often seeing those other cultures who do as obscene or immoral. Therefore no animal should be eaten.
Another arguement is that people do not see animals being slaughtered, asserts that if we did, we would not want to eat them.
Asserts that eating meat and animal products are unhealthy, and that only plant based diets are healthy.
Asserts that animals are treated poorly, so we should not eat them. Also asserts that even if they were treated well, it would be wrong.
Asserts that killing animals is wrong because it requires violence.
Asserts that because animals have certain levels of intelligence and awareness, so we should not eat them.
Asserts that people eat meat today, not on personal choice, but because we were indoctrinated into the belief that meat is necessary and normal.
Lots of animals are slaughtered everyday, therefore we should not eat them.
I would encourage everyone here to examine these arguments to see if they are factually correct and logical. I'm not telling you what to believe, I'm telling you to be reasonable.

Essay time to the people who are so concerned about the suffering of vegetables! basic biology regarding the lack of sentience and nervous system aside, a) what do you suggest? Animals show evidence of fear, suffering, love, family, community and friendship, pleasure, all the things we consider defining characteristics of humans. To solve that problem is simple - stop killing and exploiting them. Plants meanwhile yes are alive, but show no signs of sentience or pain, have no nerve endings, don't reproduce by themselves and other criteria for sentience. But what's the solution, stop eating plants? And b) if you're so concerned about plant life, look at how much grain etc is fed to animals. 16lbs of grain for 1lb of meat, is a statistic I've seen. There's also an impending water crisis, and to feed a cow long enough for it to become a burger takes tens of thousands of gallons of water.
Consumption of plants is sustainable, shows no obvious signs of suffering (though yes, animals can get caught up in harvesting tools etc, it's not perfect, but it's a lot less disgusting to accidentally kill a few hundred things a year than deliberately torture and kill tens of billions), can be quickly replaced, and can provide all the nutrition we need almost.
consumption of animals causes untold suffering, is absolutely annihilating the environment, which supports life for plants as well as people and other animals, consumes way more plants than humans living a plant-based diet would, and I can't imagine it doesn't cause immense psychological (not to mention spiritual, if you're into that) harm to the people who work in that line...
Go vegan, don't go vegan, that choice is yours. But I saw a few comments suggesting plants feel pain and felt compelled to respond. Veganism is about doing the least harm as practicable. If we truly wanted to do no harm we'd all kill ourselves as soon as we realised what was going on, but like the animals, most of us want to live. But given that it's usually people who eat meat that show such concern for plants' wellbeing, it's hard to take your surge of compassion seriously, when plants show no measurable suffering, but animals absolutely do, but you don't seem troubled by it :/ It could well be that plants suffer TWICE as much as animals, but since we don't know that currently, why don't we work with what we DO know, and try to lessen the suffering we KNOW is happening?
I hope you've not found this judgemental, I don't mean it to be preachy or provocative, I was a meat eater for 30 years, I understand it's the done thing and there's a lot of conditioning and habit to break through. I do hope it's helped explain the reasoning I've seen shared by a lot of vegans though.

So I'm not well versed in veganism and I have a few questions. I do understand the emotions the thought of eating animal products invokes, trust me.
My main question is, if people were to stop using animal products, what would happen to the animals? It's a sad reality, but many many people don't care much for the welfare of animals. There would be an abundance of animals. Would the animals be set free? Would they be cared for on wildlife reserves? Here where I live, there's a protected species of deer, the red deer. Currently there's a severe overpopulation issue, and because of that there have been rangers sent out to cull the population. Would this have to happen? Would the populations of animals have to be culled, or would it be let run rampant. I think that's my main concern.
Also, would the laboratory testing of animals be prohibited or just strictly regulated. Since there isn't really a way for animals to consent, would laws or codes of conduct be introduced to somehow understand if an animal is consenting. If the testing of lab animals was the cease completely, would testing then resume on humans, like convicts.
There's a lot I don't understand about ethical veganism, and I'd really like someone to explain. Thank you!

Saffron, I think everyone should hold on to their seats because I feel there is a sea change coming! Once again coming out of the Dark Ages into an age of enlightenment, where it is understood beautiful sentient beings belong to themselves. Those of us on the front lines have always cared for the animals suffering because of people's ignorance and mistreatment. So, rest assured, whatever the challenges the world will be blessed! • @billyboy7089

Hey, I'll try to be as concise as possible.
There would not be an abundance of animals, as the world would not adopt a vegan lifestyle over night. As demand for meat decreases, so will the breeding of such.. as it would not be a viable business model.
I'm personally not sure on population control as it's not an issue where I am. However, I'm sure there would be better ways of controlling it in the future that would be more humane. It's a bit of a grey area, but doesn't take away from the concept of reducing harm by not consuming animal products.
Lastly, with animal testing.. it's not as reliable as it generally perceived. With recent technological advancements, computerized methods have been increasingly succession as it can relate to components within human anatomy rather than other rodents for example.. not saying it's there completely yet, but it's getting closer and closer. I personally oppose animal testing for cosmetics and general items.. with an exception to meaningful drugs. This is because I see it as necessary for human survival.
I hope this comment helps, keep looking into it and you'll naturally end up following logic!

      Great questions.
      I can't give you a complete answer.
It is more likely that people buy slowly less and less animal products before we make animal abuse completely illegal.
In that time, people buy less animal products => shops sell less / sell it with lower prices => farmers make less money with animal products => farmers will breed less animals / switching to more plant production.
The more people go vegan / more plant based, the less animals are breed.
Even when everyone goes vegan overnight, we would not end up with more animals. Many farm animals can not have sex because they are breed to a point where they can only reproduce with the help from humans.
However, there is no place to set all, or even most, farm animals free. We have to kill them . The only difference to today would be, that no new farm animals are breed into existence.
Even if we do not kill them, after about 7 years, most chickens would die because of of age. Most farm animals are chickens.
      To the animal testing.
There is a lot of animal testing we do not really need and many results are not publicly available. In a vegan world, we would at least reduce the animal testing to a minimum and obligate to make all results of animal tests public for free.
But i do not know if we could stop all animal testing.
Veganism is not about not harming animals at all, veganism is about doing the least amount of harm as practically possible.
"Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is
possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to,

    •  3 года назад

@@hl6753 plants cannot feel pain . They don't have pain receptors or brain or central nervous system . Why would an organism which cannot engage in a fight or flight movement feel pain ? (Fight or flight movement means if a lion is hunting a deer the deer has two options , either stand there and fight or run away . ) but plants can't move and can't defend either . And even if they do , it's still one more reason to go vegan . Because 60% of plant food produced is fed to animals in order to use and kill them . So really care about plants ? Go vegan

I have tried veganism and frutarianism for a short period - it was far from a psychological feeling, especially the frutarian lifestyle which the vegans praise - I felt awful nearly all the time and since I don't have strong will I decided that I am unworthy and stopped it, I still believed it though and had plans to adopt it some day until recently when numerous horrific videos of former vegans popped up.

This people are very young and very sick taking a lot of medications and going to different medical procedures. Meat and sugars are very addictive they cannot go a day without consuming meats. All this people are killing themselves. I try to talked to them about how cruel it is killing animals and how un healthy is to consume them but they just addicted to. I find the concept that people eat meat and don't realize it comes from an animal horrific. I eat meat, and have no intention of stopping, but I know what I'm eating. Down to the boiled horse hoofs in gummies. People need to be more in touch with food production in general.

Would not hurt if vegans stopped assuming that the food they eat causes no harm. If any of those veggies you eat a ton of come from a country with little to no regulations, there’s a good chance a person is suffering so you can eat!

    • @fleur1492
      @fleur1492 5 лет назад +5

Joel Sherrer usually vegans are very aware of what they eat because they have to educate themselves on food in order not to develop any deficiencies.
Apart from that, a plant based diet does cause a lot less harm than a meat based one. Simply because animals need to be fed plants as well, just that they need a lot more than humans. So by eating meat you will use the same resources as a vegan just a lot more of them, while also eating a dead animal (that has probably suffered, depending on where the meat is bought). If you eat meat, that’s absolutely fine but it’s still important to know what it entails.

Here in Asia, all animals are edible. Not picky when there's nothing else around to eat.
When a new animal is discovered, first thing we think of is, "Hmm, how does it taste?"
