I actually loved this show. And I was heartbroken by the end of the last episode. And I loved Sean's character.

Nah! I have to dissagree Sean most definately killed himself and Elliot clearly has plot armour ! Why did he choose to plot with them instead of his own mother for a guy to be that smart he sure did some outlandish decisions that made zero sense? He clearly also overacts blatantly all the time.

I LOVED episode 5, yeah it was a bit unrealistic with the guy getting shot by the machine gun but it was so gripping from start to finish.
I don't understand the ending i think there will be second season
The only thing I found to be unrealistic with this episode was : Why the fuck would a danish special ops corp infiltrate a house with such a stupid formation? Oh boys, they barricaded themselves and it's safe outside, let's keep standing in the open field instead of taking cover and surrounding the building in a proper manner!
Was the action comical yes, but that in combination with the drama and deep narrative is what made me love this. The fact that a violent brawl could kick of at any minute really built suspense; in a way it kind of reminded me of a darker, less comical Kingsman (in the way the action was written/choreographed that contrasted with the dark plot).
Interesting comparison to Kingsman... which was adapted from a comic book. Glad you enjoyed it and I see what you are saying but have to disagree about the drama side of it. Full of cliches for me. Thanks for checking out my review. ✌🏻🙏🏻

Finn Wallace gets killed... so then Shaun takes charge to find who killed his father... and then before you know it, all these other gangs come out of nowhere.... to be honest it’s like the story line disappeared shortly into the series.
cause at first its all about finding the dads killer but he starts finding out more how much of a piece of shit his dad was and how he fucked the gangs all together including the family

I felt the visceral action and dramatic moments worked very well 80% of the time but it did fall into disbelief at a few moments. I actually loved the ending though. Definitely didn’t see it coming. Can’t wait for season 2.
Good review, sir. I have this show on my radar, but I just started Peaky Blinders (yeah, late to the party) and am really enjoying it. I may give this a shot but if I agree about the style over substance aspect, I'll drop it.

Keone Morris peaky blinders has sub par writing at best it’s not what I am looking for in a crime series tbh peaky blinders season 4 was terrific but the last season was political dribble and this knocked it out the park in terms of entertainment cus shock horror that’s why I am watching it to be entertained

I mean the ending was poor and I feel like I'm watching raid with everyone fighting that's not what a crime drama is suppose to be plus they get hurt and recover instantly. It's definitely good but respectfully Peaky Blinders is a masterpiece of a crime drama just like the godfather was a masterpiece of a crime movie franchise.
Great cinematography. Great topic. But it became a cartoon the moment Sean blew up the skyscraper.

I thought is a very good series, gruesome with violence but watchable and enjoyable. I think Billy is underrated, although he may not take action but he’s a bright guy.
A real honest review. I’ve watched it and I liked it but as you pointed out it got unrealistic and comical at times. But I’ve watched worse shows than this. 7/10 tops.

It felt like they spent all the budget on violence and action scenes rather than focus on believable characters.

Elliot, as a undercover officer, ' trying to work his way up' is certainly committed to some grisley scenarios for who he's trying to take down.and too numerous to believe he pretty much comes thru unscathed, considering the blades and stuff.a fat lip or two would do.
The only think I didn’t like was the house on episode 5. The house was a version of a spy movie car. All of a sudden the house became a fortified bullet proof house.

the action in this is on the same lvl like The Raid movies which is pretty sick
whoever made those action scenes need to get a job in hollywood for action movies like srsly

Just watched this series and I think you were spot-on that it was far-fetched and some of the action and over the top beats conflicted with the character drama. However, I just imagined that the contemporary London simply setting was an alternative setting to a fantasy tale just like Westeros, and from that viewpoint I found this show on par with Game of Thrones. Game of Thrones was equally cheesy and far-fetched, but the setting was fantastic and the character motivations seemed true, so we indulged. This had the same positives going for it.
The fight scenes were so good! I loved it!!!

Also, Peaky Blinders is the best show ever because of the way it handles and portrays trauma. Granted, that’s just my opinion.
Very fair review & spot on.
I wanted to really get into this series but the violence took away from the ongoing drama. As the series is about criminal gangs you were expecting a certain level of beatings, deaths and mayhem. But the diminishing returns became fewer and fewer until the whole thing became a parody of itself.
The set pieces were sometimes awesome but can you really believe an army of Swedish mercenaries could really operate like that in rural Wales and certainly many of the other scenes would have the whole Metropolitan police force crashing down on their heads before the action ended.
All in all for sheer escapism this series ticks all the boxes but I felt the writers etc wanted us to believe this could be real life which for this viewer would be very unlikely.
Dude which one was the greek gang? Are you mistaking the albanian gang (the one you didn't mention) for a greek gang? Lol
The ending sucked. Loved the series until episode 9. Not interested any more if there is a season 2.
I think it was episode 5 where I stopped taking it seriously. Not really that bothered for another series either. Thanks for watching my review ✌🏻

Clearly the best of the show is Billy i mean for an addict this guy kept surprising me left center and right! Second favorite is Luan who clearly wants to be on the other side and is looking this as an exit plan sooner rather than later.
Great Review! I liked how the show was willing to go to some dark places, but after a few episodes the ‘over the top’ action began to detract from the overall premise. I still had a blast watching it however. The way it’s shot is so dynamic and gripping. I have mixed feelings about this show. I suspended disbelief and had fun with it.
Yes, some action seemed unrealistic, but given how many ppl died within seconds, I have no issue w one person being more resilient, especially considering the dramatic effect. Besides, I'm not a doctor and I don't know where the bullets landed. 50cent was shot 9 times lol
omg the ending to this show was so so bad...
Gareth Evans need to direct more episodes or maybe have him fully control/direct all the action scenes for the show. It's definitely a great show with such thrilling action & engaging drama, but episode 7-9 were kinda a bit of a downers when it comes to action scenes (like almost none at all). Budgets & time constraints?
I didnt see it from the start and AMC dont repeat it so I picked it up midway. The fighting and violence is outta sight . That scene when that guy riddled the other with a machine gun and the guy shook like crazy reminded me of Millers Crossing. For some reason I like the Black dude , Sean was okay but seems he may not be dead so waiting for season 2 . Be nice if AMC shows season one again but they want you to join the streaming service.
Gareth Evans remains the best in action film directing. he always shows fight scenes that are so mind blowing
But he needs a companion who is a brilliant scriptwriter.
Fun fact...it's supposed unrealistic..the fact he said Joe Cole has a career ahead of him says it all. Joe Cole has always been good and been in some great TV shows and movies for a while now. It's not a perfect show but it's very enjoyable

Great review but I think you were a little bit too hard on them. The show was perfect to me, until Sean Wallace was killed. I loved the Nigerian gang, I wish they didn't die so soon.. Great review, you nailed it.

couldn't agree more with the review, I thought the show was shit overall, no watch it again vibes, Coles squinty eyed acting + ott violence + no likeable character's, no watch it again qualities. Goes to show how easily entertained the idiots raving about it are saying things like its best crime drama sopranos lol.

Yep you’re absolutely right. Why did they choose jo Cole for this part . He’s a good actor don’t get me wrong but he’s acting too posh to the point of cringe 😬. He could of just used his own accent and it would be brilliant. I’m disappointed 😞

27 mins into the first episode and i turned it off. cliche, terrible acting and like you said i'm not invested in the characters at all. not going to waste my time following the story!

Peaky blinders is even more soapy. The show is barely ok, and action is the only thing that elevates it. I'll probably skip the next season if it does not have rave reviews and watch some action cut on yt instead.

I can’t believe Sean died I get that he knew Elliot was police but he was willing to work with him. Just shows how’s strong the investors reach is. If there was gonnna be a season 2 then maybe Sean was shot or got away and then tries to take Elliot and the investors down. Whilst getting Help from mum to who is somehow kept alive and now going to work with her husband mistress and his baby girl .. sorry what 🤔.. what’s gonna happen now with Luan he’s killed Mosi so now what is his money gone? does he go after the dumanis?..while we’re on the Dumanis soo Shannon is more of killer then Alex they had me there 😐.. next Is Lale gonna avenge Sean clearly theses lot had a thing cause the proximity the way they held conversation with each other was far too close so it was clear one of them was gonna set pace and end up humping ..not too sure if I could handle those Freddy Kruger hands tho or is Lale gonna keep this personal war up with Asif cause I tell you now Asif is out for blood. Next point what about Leif them lot killed his babe after breaking her soul first and then Finns baby mums threw his mum down the stairs is he gonna come back with avengence. Lastly the crack head brother who we all know where ever he starts a new life will need another hit and will end up being looked after by his sister so whatever new life their after just gonna copy and paste .. so is billy gonna turn around and say omg Sean dead right I said I’ll kill Elliot where is he! So many question episode 9 left us with from these points I’m not at all happy with the ending but.....Truly amazing show, best all year by far and the second best British drama after Peaky Blinders. Not too sure now about season 2 without Sean the protagonist and it’s probable new title gangs of Panama lol

K JH shows trick us all the time. As far as I’m concerned, if a main character is not explicitly shown dead on screen then they are still alive. Sean was shot in the cheek and was never shown actually dead. That guy who announced it could be working for the Wallaces.
Carp Film Thoughts good theory, I hope he is still alive. If his mum survived so I wouldn’t be shocked if he did. They better do another season tho.

This review absolutely hit the nail on the head. I cant even be bothered to get past the 8th episode now, I find the show way over the top and unbelievable and I dont particularly like any of the characters. Will not be watching again.

I agree with this review 100%. It was definitely unrealistic, not that I'm a London gangster, and was a victory of style over substance. I didn't like any of the characters, most were quite annoying. As a Welshman I was disappointed by our representation in the show, although some were quite hard. Welsh travellers don't have Welsh accents and don't speak Welsh. The ones I know around Cardiff speak with an Irish accent. What was wrong with Shaun/Joe Cole's eyes, it seemed like he had just finished crying all through the series.

I watched some of it. Its too unrealistic. The city isnt portrayed accurately. It was like that in the 80's maybe and before but not anymore. The characters are very unrealistic. They use middle class gangster types which doesnt ring true for me. hardly any working class street dickheads in it and when they do appear they are played by middle class actors who cant do it. Seems like they tried to copy some of gommorah which is so much better. Saying all that it isnt rubbish and is quite entertaining for what it is

The Albanians were my favorite gang in the show, the fight scene when their boss take down the Nigerians was the only action scene i enjoyed .
