Airman’s run was by far the best part of basic training. Can’t describe the feeling and motivation we got from seeing normal people for the first time cheering us on. Felt like I could run a marathon. Man it feels like it was yesterday
Oh yeah especially when singing/gasping the cadences while running. 💪😎 “One! What’s it feel like!? Two! To be bit by! Oh! By a Gatorrrr! Whoa-oh-ohhh-oh!”
Congratulations. My son starts training this week. Any idea of some good resources or websites where we can follow along and learn more about the grad ceremony?
1967 in khaki shirts and pants we had to march for some retiring full bird colonel with full band support.Pretty cool thinking about it today 55 years later!!!!!!!! 3704 BMTS.FLT 1244.
I went through basic at Lackland in 1975. There was none of this publicity or family allowed when we graduated then. Must be the USAF version of the "participation" trophy for these trainees. I also went through Nuclear Weapons Security Specialist training at Lackland and combat training at Camp Bullis Army Base immediately after. Again, standard military commencement, no publicity or family allowed. As an E-3 Airman 1st Class, monthly pay was $398.40/mo or $2.30/hr. Federal minimum wage was $2.10/hr. An E-1 was paid $110.70/mo! That's $0.63/hr! Less than a THIRD of minimum wage! Today E-3 is $2,260/mo or $13.04/hr. E-1 is $1,918/mo or $11.07/hr. Federal minimum wage is $7.25/hr! Today's military personnel are paid MUCH MORE by comparison and in relation to minimum wages in all but a handful of states! Their training is much easier, far less demanding, and many are graduating who wouldn't make it 47 years ago. Is it any wonder why they have so many issues when they are back in civilian life? They have been coddled and fed unrealistic expectations their entire lives! Sad and depressing at best, criminal at worst!
So you want everyone to suffer and be sad, with no improvements to quality of life for future generations because you weren't given them? You want your children and their children to have hard miserable lives, simply because you did?

I don't agree. Multiple factors involved. One...the gas exposure.
