I'm super worried about this. Four years is more than enough time to do some irreparable damage, which it looks like they're poised to do. God help us, is right Big Nate.
Hey Nate, are you familiar with Oswald Spengler's "The Decline of the West"? He describes our current civilizational stage as "plutocratic". According to his model what follows, is the subjugation of wealth by power: Caesarism. What's your opinion on that?
While I agree with the idea that this was a fork in the road moment. I also kinda feel like the precedent for oligarchy is already so strong that this was inevitable. Moments like citizens united really paved the way for unlimited corporate power.
I think you should read Black Pill by Elle Reeve. Very relevant to this conversation of social media influencing politics and the right catering to nazis.
Absolutely nailed it. Thought to myself "there's no way this dude reads what he does and is on team maga". It's funny how a book reviewer get's it more correct in 11 and half minutes than the pundits do. Not that I've been listening lately. It does not get much easier than this and people are getting it dangerously wrong. Twilight Zone shit.
I recommend Lapvona by Ottessa Moshfegh. It's dark but has parallels about a ridiculous amount of excess wealth accumulated onto one person and the power of populism and how religion and belief also play a part on swaying the minds of people instead of seeing the real dangers.
Your rhetoric is interesting as it follows the established rhetoric from the american oligarchy. Specifically the fork in the road analogy, it implies that there are only two options. Thus it ceeds ground to the idea of the illusion of the duopoly. Things should have turned out different but it seems we can not agree on what different looks like, or who the oligarchy truly is, many in the billionair class also donated money to the democrats, yet this reaction would not be had if they had won. This leads me to my next point of curiosity in what was SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN, the democrats, the left, whatever any one would like to call them, they still hold power and held power, and they did nothing to help the working class with it, they served thier own interests, is that not an oligarchy? I am not suggesting that you or any one else denies this however on the subject of what was supposed to happen, a direct effect of both the first and second Trump election was increased class awarness, this would not have happend if the opposition had won just the presidency and not the senate or house. maybe this is me looking for a silver lineing but I do see the potential for a bennifit to this election cycle for the working class in awarness brought on by the now overt actions of the oligarch, where they where in the past covert. I'd apologise for the whole essay but your the one who decided to talk about political philosophy in public, you had to know the response you'd get. Any way, cheers.
Last one to the the discord thinks it was just an awkward gesture:

High schooler:Why do we gotta learn about what this guy wrote thousands of years ago? They didn't have any of our tech.
Plato:Why indeed?

Plato's Allegory of the Cave is a great way to think about the influence of right wing "populist" social media happening nowadays

The people have to make mistakes to know the truth. It was inevitable.
