I was in another room listening to this. I was totally surprised to SEE that Steve Stout is a black man. His whole delivery, mindset and motives are those of a WHITE person. What Black person has not heard of the history or celebrate Juneteenth? I am a native Californian raised in Marin County in the Marin City projects. We were taught and celebrated Juneteenth since I was a child. I guess that is because the shipyards were in Sausalito and Marin City was a community of Black folks from the south, mainly Texas, Mississippi and New Orleans who came West to work in the West Coast shipyards during World War II. Different time, different breed of black folk. We were taught our history and were taught to be proud of our history as Black folks in this country. Marin City had black businesses, we saw black doctors, black teachers, black pharmacists, black sheriffs, black coaches, black high school counselors etc. even when we went to the white schools in Sausalito and Mill Valley. I get so tired of black folks saying they don't know their history. Whose fault is that? You never asked or went to a library to find out. You never wanted to get the information for yourself? Sankafoa- a West African word meaning- if you do not know your past, you cannot move into your future. Suggest you first read "The Destruction of Black Civilization" by Chancellor Williams to begin to learn where you come from and what you can be.
