Please allow me to clarify two terms:. "crossing" describes a rail-highway crossing or a location where two railroad tracks cross--like an X, with rails intersecting at 90 degrees, 45 degrees or any other angle (but not zero).
The example of a track diverging is correctly called a TURNOUT.
