Don't worry if you're overwhelmed and can't tell who from who at the start, you have the entire game's lifespan to get to know them. There's still a lot more to say but I feel like that'd give you just enough context without ruining your "raw experience" with the story (classic Nious wording, please never change). It's not your fault that you don't get the combat mechanic. The game explains it poorly, only a half of what it explains is actually important. I played the game since the first mouth it released and it took me 2 seasons to actually know how to play. Don't stress yourself out, enjoy the ride!
