Coming back to this video to comment how much fun you've made Minthara for me! I'm also surprised how well Thief Rouge and Vengeance Paladin synergized. I did a Strength-based Paladin/Champion Fighter multiclass variation of this build where Minthara is using a Sword and Shield just because I love Sword & Shield Paladins and it works just as efficiently. Thanks so much for the build
Recently learned about her having a unique character trait (soul branding) and it adds so much variety to character building, wish she was recruitable early on for a non murder hobo playthrough. I wish every character had something unique about them.
Yeah, I played my first playthrough with her in my group recently and it rounds up some builds action economy so well. I made her my Cleric and felt SO MUCH better than Shadow Heart.
Used Minthara for my first Durge playthrough. Made her a DW melee beastmaster ranger with spider pet. Worked well enough but her soulbranding not being as good as off-hand attack made me neglect it almost entirely, which is why I in a previous video suggested making a build that gets to benefit from it. This approach isn't bad.
In the pre-release beta minthara was actually a cleric of loth instead of a paladin so cleric could’ve also worked. And about her background she has a noble background which means she gets a inspiration point for doing Halsins act 2 quest
I actually respectfully disagree about her being a cleric. In her pre-release state, yes it could have worked given that most drow highborns from the underdark are Clerics of Lolth. But after you know her whole story when you pick her up in Act 2, cleric is the one of if not the most anti-roleplay classes you could give her. SPOILERS for Act 2 & Beyond for Minthara below: We know that the reason she initially went away from her home in Menzoberranzan was that she had a lapse in judgement, she saw a place for her, a seat of power wielded by the Absolute. She turned away from Lolth to be with the Absolute, and quite in fact she was deliberately FORCED into serving the Absolute. Lolth, even if Minthara came crawling back to her, would absolutely reject that kind of "weakness". But that's okay, because Minthara absolutely wants nothing to do with Lolth or any gods in the forgotten realm. When you enter the Stormshore Tabernacle in Act 3, she makes a comment in a similar vein to: " Oh look, there's a statue dedicated to Lolth in the corner. Excuse me while I go spit on it."
@@ShadowPatriot12i didn’t know that cause I haven’t used her much outside of act 2 cause I’ve only done 2 playthroughs with her one during when most of her dialog was bugged and not triggering and another during my honour mode run where I only used her for act 2 and a little to fight Raphael, I just made her a cleric due to how good war cleric-paladin is
Well that is also probably because paladins were not in the game for the majority of early access, so the options were limited for what she could be. Edit: Paladins weren't added until Patch 9, which was the last patch they did before the full release of the game.
Really like what you did here, the psychic damage is a unique focus. And I always find ways to justify Rogue levels on any Menzo drow, given subterfuge is everything there. I've even been reading the 90s novels and kinda miss their racial ability to levitate, so Thief's resistance to falling damage kinda leans into that if you don't sweat the details. Eager to see future modded builds too! I'll have to join the discord and see if I can't get an oath of glory paladin build recommended
Paladin Rogue is one of the coolest combinations, and it's so perfect for someone like Minthara. Amazing job! Specially with underpowered mechanics that make sense for the character, like extra Psychic damage. I'm also looking forward to adding modded builds into mix, there's infinite potential there.
Same, though to be honest I was looking for something that has her with two maces like you find her in game. My original idea being she has the adamantite mace in the off hand to make the main mace ignore resistance.
Uncanny dodge is a passive feature that uses your reaction. So if you have more than 1 reaction (maybe you equp the best rapier), you can use it more than 1 time in turn. To deactivate it you need manually deactivate it in passives, not in reactions.
Feels like Paladin 6/Arcane Trickster 6 would have been 100% fine for her as well. You get some great arcane spells, it's thoroughly flavorful for a Drow, and you get to caster level 5 for 3rd level smites.
@@A11ie_Russo you absolutely do not. There are a ton of spells that Arcane Trickster gets access to that don't have anything to do with spellcasting stat.
@@A11ie_Russo you got me, I was exaggerating, but there are definitely enough. You get 2 AT spells and 1 Wizard spell at 3, another AT spell and a replacement from the Wizard list at 4, and two more replacements from the WIzard list at 5 and 6 (according to the wiki I'm reading anyway). By the time the build is done, you have 4 spells known from the whole Wizard list and 2 extra caster levels for your smites. If you can't find 4 spells from the wizard list to take that don't involve spellcasting stat, then I'm not sure what to tell you. Even if you burn all the spell slots on Shields and Smites, I'd argue that's still worthwhile.
@@miked2232 I mean, probably 6 levels to AT while having low Int is too much. Perhaps 2-3 levels better go back to paladin or other multiclass. Fighter, perhaps?..
I went back and watched the live stream discussion and made a build that incorporated several of the classes that were mentioned (and is surprisingly viable). So I went Vengeance Pally 6 (base class), Assassin Rogue 4 (drow & poison based background) , Fighter 1 (for 2 weapon fighting), GOO Warlock 1 (lingering mindflayer abilities). Definitely not the most optimized, but super viable. Feels a bit more offensive than what you have since it's missing the higher level rogue defensive abilities.
My guy, how do you expect me to ever finish the game if you keep making cool ass builds? Like seriously I JUST beat act 1 and I'm already planning new characters.. Edit: I obviously haven't gotten to Act 3 yet but I believe there's like a courtyard somewhere with multiple guards? I've seen it on a few videos and could be a decent place to test builds.
i get the same thing. i see a cool ass build video so i wanna do it, then i get through like Act 1 and i see another cool ass build video and instantly restart the playthrough. then the fatigue starts to set in honestly it's a miracle i ever beat the game to begin with
Minthara.... in my playthrough i made her, the Twin blade dancer Twin blade dancer is 6 Fighter + 1 War Cleric + 5 Bard, with dual wielding short sword, she claimed to be "The Absolute's Dagger" so this build is fast attacking, with mobile slash you can teleport all over the place and spell mostly for CC so Mystic Scoundrel ring for Hold Person and Hypnotic Patern, and have someone cast Haste, and you can strike many times
For dex based paladin use bardadin - it is definitely best multiclass for dex based melee damage dealer (because hold person/band of mystic scoundrel/divine smite is such amazing combo). And I think that bardadin is very popular in this days)
I would also consider savage attacker since you're going with paladin I'm going to try this build out with the Dancing Breeze and the GWM feat, which is cool since this particular glaive is a finesse weapon
@@HoboZone It boosts overall damage from smiting by about 30%. Savage attacker on a bg3 paladin isn't about weapon damage, unlike 5e it re-rolls your smite dice and not just the weapon die. e.g. a level 12 pure paladin using a 3rd level smite on crit. on an undead or fiend will have the whole 12d8 of radiant damage re-rolled
Hey Hobo! My old phone completely died so I had to get a new one so that why I haven’t been able to talk a lot. I have a build idea that has been stuck inside my head for months ( that was the one I was talking about a while back) that I think would make an amazing video. So I got this inspiration from the first 15 seconds of funnily enough a WWE entrance song. The song is called “ The Rising” and it was Seth Rollins entrance theme. I don’t know how to explain it ,so you should listen to it. So in the WWE story line Seth is like a messiah and believes he is a god and that people should follow him ( kinda like a cult) so he does this a ton and he gets an extremely loyal follower named Buddy Murphy. Buddy did like all of Seths bidding. So I was thinking that you should make a two player build like that. One where he is a messiah and another where he has a loyal follower. For “Seth” I was thinking of a cleric but it would also be cool to have a cleric rouge multi class because in the story line Seth is very capable of defending himself and he does it silent. For “ Buddy” I was thinking of doing a barbarian ( because of the mindlessness) Paladin multiclass. Tell me what you think and even if you decide not to make this a video I would love if you could help me make this build!!!
One thing I wanted to mention about your alternate weapons picked off of [SPOILER], which I'll hide here just in case: Both Bloodthirst and Crimson Mischief have main hand and off hand abilities that can change your gear choice. Crimson Mischief in the off hand gives the same effect as two weapon fighting, meaning you can pick a different set of gloves (Stalker Gloves might be good for the initiative bonus and boost to sneak attack). Or, if you go with Bloodthirst in the off hand you get a passive +1 AC, and can retaliate when an enemy misses and gain true strike, ensuring Crimson Mischief's main hand activates and deals +7 piercing. I personally prefer Crimson Mischief in main hand and Bloodthirst in the off, since it's main hand ability simply grants vulnerability to piercing damage on a hit, not as good as Crimson's +7 piercing. Still, nice to know that once you can get these (very) late game items your options at playstyle mix up a bit.
Question: do all Smite spells actually require concentration as it says on the tooltip? Does it break the concentration for other spells? If so, it would make non-Smite concentration spells for Paladins practically worthless. The issue I have with Minthara builds is that I don't know what makes sense for her personal story. Sure, the beginning of a Vengeance Paladin against the Absolute (or technically its Chosen?) makes sense, but why would she still use Soul Branding after that change in her personality? I haven't played with her yet and I don't want to be spoiled so I'll need to work it out without these builds till then. I love the touch of collecting trophies for her, might use that with other builds as well.
Her background is Noble. I have her built as 2 Paladin/10 Light Cleric, so Paladin is there just for Smites. Otherwise she's kind of a fire mage that has a great melee attack spell.
so fair warning if you're going to be following the Origin build rule of "no repeat gear" for each character, The Dead Shot bow was already used on Lae'zel so you may want to give either Minthara or Lae'zel a different bow *Edit:* upon further reviewing everything, the Wapria's Crown given to the Selune build for Shadowheart is also unavailable to you if you recruit Minthara
Don't quote me on it but I'm pretty sure she has the Noble background. I wanna say there's even special dialogue between her and a Noble background Lolth-Sworn Drow Tav.
Here is some more ideas and a more specific kinda information on the two characters. I think for Buddy the Paladin subclass Oath of Devotion would work the best because Holy Rebuke would protect “Seth “ because of the entire thing I mentioned last time. Also I think it would work because of Devotion. For the Barbarian side of Murphy I was thinking of wild magic because one Murphy was kinda a wild card and two I feel like Seth would give Murphy powers that he wouldn’t be able to control yet. For Seth’s cleric side I was thinking of knowledge or trickery. I am leaning more towards knowledge because of Seth’s knowledge and using that to convince people to become his followers, but trickery would also work for that same reason. After consideration I think that seth would better fit a shadow monk than a rouge. And because of that I think for a monk subclass he should pick shadow monk. Whenever you can please tell me what you think and if you think this would make a good video idea.
@@HoboZoneI wound up giving Lae'zel the Titanstring Bow instead of dead shot. Not as strong, but Lae'zel's build was such a heavy hitter anyway and I wanted to give the stronger option to Minthara because I'm biased :p
Why not just cast vow of enmity on yourself to get advantage against every enemy instead? Also I’m pretty sure the render of mind and body psychic damage only applies if you’re hitting with that weapon. So it doesn’t apply to your main hand attack. Ambusher a short sword in act 3 does apply to all weapons.
@@HoboZone i don't think it's ever been in the patch notes, pretty sure it's a bug that larian just never got around to fixing. + regarding the render of mind and body's psychic damage, you can see when your attacks are supposed to do psychic damage in the combat footage by the "immune to psychic damage" message over the watcher's head - it doesnt show up with your main hand attacks except when you used shadow-soaked blow, which just does psychic damage on its own, so the weapon itself isnt being affected.
Hey hobo, collab with me for a sec: I'm trying to build something tasty. Both lifebringer and warlock temp hp can refill symbiotic entity, im trying to make a spore druid berserker barbarian build centered around keeping symbiotic entity active. Three flavors - 6/5/1 Druid/Barbarian/warlock or 6/3/2/1 Druid/Barbarian/paladin/warlock. 8/3/1 Druid/Barbarian/warlock. Halo of spores can replace bonus action healing by breaking potions placed at your feet, so while raging a 3/2 berserker spore druid has the same attacks for round as a level 5 fighter since you use your bonus action in place of extra attack. The lifebringer circlet with sparky points trident regains 3 temp hp for symbiotic entity upon gaining lightning charges and dark ones blessing from fiend warlock does the same on kill. I tried the lifestealer shortsword and confirm that it doesn't regain temp hp for symbiotic entity, it replaces symbiotic entity. I have tested it for majority of act 1 doing a 3/3 split between druid/berserker and its pretty tanky. Once you get gloves of dex, you can drop dex investment for making wisdom and cha 16 each, con 14, strength 12. In a party, you can have two builds that work like this with great weapon master as there are two finesse longswords in act 1 being larethians wrath and phalar aluve. For the second spore berserker, you can use a combination of the dex cloth and bracers of defense and a dex stat of 16, 8 strength, 14 on wisdom and con, 12 on charisma for an ac of 18. Although once you dip into warlock, the temp hp won't be as much as the gloves of dex spore berserker. But it can be remedied with hags hair, patriahs memory and birthright to buff it to 16. Shield of thralls can actually completely refill symbiotic entity which is an interesting thing i discovered, but it does prevent warlock temp hp from being added back. All the spore druid actions besides spell casting work while raging hence my confidence to only have 3 levels in berserker as halo of spores is powerful if you are creative, i.e break alchemy flask with halo of spore to set of an explosion. Or have a lit candle then break grease with halo of spores to set of fire wine barrels, or break a heal potion next to a downed ally to heal them (with halo of spores)... You get the point, halo of spores turns your reaction into a more useful resource in the action economy. Tell me what you think.
I think you've got the right idea keeping Warlock at 1, no reason to go higher if you're only looking for temp HP. Although, I wouldn't go with Berserker here personally. If you can reliably dual wield, then the bonus action attack from Berserker is pointless. If you want the throw, then sure, but you might have a better time with Wildheart. Bear could give you a resistances which would keep your temp HP up longer, or Tiger could give you bleed which fits nicely with necrotic damage and the overall theme of spreading your spores through open wounds. My only issue with multiclassing Spores is that I've found you can basically lose all your temp HP in one turn in act 3. You need the highest AC possible as well as damage reduction to mitigate that. Since you're not spellcasting at all with this build, I don't see much reason to invest in WIS at all, as it doesn't affect any of your Spores features. I'd try to see if you can somehow get both DEX and CON to 18 or 20 and use Barb's unarmoured defence, using the Potion of Everlasting Vigour and Ehtel's Boon to get your STR to 20 with a starting score of 17. Here's what I'm thinking. Spores 7/Wildheart Bear 4/Fiend Warlock 1. Starting Stats: STR 17 (+3 with buffs) DEX 8 (18 with gloves) CON 16 (+4 with ASI and enraging heart garb) INT 8 WIS 10 CHA 14 (+4 from ASI and Birthright) Grab the Cloak and Ring of Protection alongside the Bonespike Boots (or evasive shoes before act 2) for +3 AC for a whopping 22 AC before anything else. You won't be getting hit very often, but when you do, your resistances and healing from Warlock will keep your 30 temp HP going. As for weapons you could take the ASI from CHA and take dual wielder if you want, but there are plenty of perfectly good light options. When you get to act 3, pick up the Duellists Prerogative for a bonus action attack, 2 reactions, and extra necrotic damage. I feel this combo should be pretty good. This is all just off the top of my head, so I could probably come up with something better given time. Hope this helps regardless.
@@HoboZone i was just thinking about duelists prerogative, the extra reaction means you can buff with two different potions. What i do like doing is placing multiple potions at my feet and using halo of spores with a spiked bulb to break them all at once. Good insight, thanks.
@@HoboZone also regarding your left handed spellsword build, i found that opening combat (from outside of combat) with blue flame doesn't consume an action. A thief/warlock/druid/paladin might be good as a left handed spell sword.
@@HoboZone I don't say it doesn't make sense. Mommy Minthy simply deserved something ... well, better. I even saw a mod to fix that, but I didn't want to install even more mods.
Paladin does not sit right with an evil Drow character. Paladin's are a force for good, not evil. So in keeping with genuine D and D Drow Females they are formost magic users. Of course this is just a game and she can be whatever you want but personally I would change her. I would go with something like a Sorcerer or Warlock build. That would be in keeping much more with her race and character. However I do like the idea of her as a dex based finesse dual wielding Fighter/Warlock. Since my custom character is a Paladin I have changed her.
Paladins are not necessarily a force for good, but It's totally valid for you to play them that way if that's what you want. As you said, It's just a game. About your build idea, I think Great Old One warlock works great for role-play using Minthara, Tav, or any origin character other than Wyll. The warlock and patron don't even need to be aware of each other's existence for GOOlock, and there are story reasons for the tadpoles to serve as enough of a connection

Don't quote me on it but I'm pretty sure she has the Noble background. I wanna say there's even special dialogue between her and a Noble background Lolth-Sworn Drow Tav.
Watched this while eating gross cottage cheese, cheers
Loving the video, but chapters would have been nice. I like to jump around a lot.
Sense she came with her own musical Instrument I would probably go Paladin/Bard personally. Maybe throw Rogue in to idk. 🤷♂️
Could you maybe head on over to my discord and post your ideas there? it would help me keep it all together as comments get lost pretty easily.
Of course
If you're stacking crits why not go sword of life stealing in the mainhand and knife of the undermountain king in the offhand?
btw vow of enmity can be cast on yourself giving you advantage for ten turns on everyone ")
"The Dead Shot" bow is already used by Lae'zel in your "The Bane of Vlaakith" origin build. Do you recommend something else?
Any bow or hand crossbow should do the trick. There's none with any special abilites that come to mind.
I wasn't aware of the Vow of Enmity buff. Missed it in the latest patch notes.
@@HoboZone it’s always been there but the more you know right? If anything it makes the build even better than you originally thought.
I was waiting this vídeo but It take a while so i Just make a tavern brawler Monk with her lol
I mean that works
Can you put ranger gloomstalker instead ?
Can she become a oath breaker?
No more cool bug 😔
six spell slots tho
Starting Stats:
STR 17 (+3 with buffs)
DEX 8 (18 with gloves)
CON 16 (+4 with ASI and enraging heart garb)
INT 8
WIS 10
CHA 14 (+4 from ASI and Birthright)
Grab the Cloak and Ring of Protection alongside the Bonespike Boots (or evasive shoes before act 2) for +3 AC for a whopping 22 AC before anything else.
Minthara has a Noble background ... Shame she doesn't look a part 😕
it is an odd choice, but reading up on here background, it does make sense. Kinda just makes me wish we had more background options.
@@HoboZone I don't say it doesn't make sense. Mommy Minthy simply deserved something ... well, better. I even saw a mod to fix that, but I didn't want to install even more mods.
Her family is the most powerful family in the ENTIRE underdark?
@@benross9174If that's the case, then I'm even more sad that she doesn't look more regal.
@@Matriarchator you beat me to it. I used noble a lot back at the start of 5e
Srsly why do ppl like Minthara so much? What makes her so special?
Not as curt as Laezel, not as angsty as Shart, and after romancing Karlach 5+ times it's nice to have something different.
I just find her to be one of the more attractive characters and she just has one of the coolest lines in the game imo
Laezel is better
Technically, maybe.. minthara has better dialogue
Minthara hotter
Technically minth is the strongest companion considering her brand bonus action.
@@kirkvanallen5202i would argue Astarion is stronger due to his D10 on weapon attacks after he ascends(if you wanna go that route)
@@seykstyyppi1294 that is true takes more effort/ time but yep I agree.
