3 years sober, never have I had more confidence and success than I do today in these 3 years than in my whole 15yrs drinking! I became self employed getting paid to do what I love, I actually have a savings account, Ive been traveling a bunch, I lost 50lbs, I no longer feel depressed, and My overall quality of life is at its best! It may not seem like it does, but You never really know how much alcohol really holds you back until you get rid of it completely. congratulations on your journey, and welcome to the sober and thriving club!

I’ve been 8 months without alcohol. I thought I’d do a month… and here I am 8 months later. I’ve lost 22kg, I’m sharper, 10 times more motivated, I’m up at 5am 7 days a week, have truck loads more energy and my business is now booming. The biggest thing I notice is my ability to handle pressure. I’m under extreme pressure all the time and now I have clarity and focus and can lead my team through tough situations in full control. I don’t get rattled like I used to…. I highly recommend giving up the booze. Dale

Yeah, I noticed the same things for my business as well.
Maybe at some point close to retirement, I will start to drink again, but now that the focus is on performance, I’m just gonna be sober for as long as possible.

I never drank in my life I turn 21 in October. Literally one of the best decisions I ever made I’m so ahead of people my age, have my own business I am a really good boxer, I’m a distance runner I love to work out, and I am crushing in school right now, and I started getting up early everyday getting after it I had a tough childhood because of drinking, and I seen what it does to people I had to quit talking to my dad because he made my childhood miserable because of it, and he hasn’t changed, it also helps to be around people that don’t drink clearly.

When you’re in alcohol addiction one year seems like eternity - once you decide to quit and eliminate alcohol from your life, you look back after one year and the desire to poison yourself with alcohol seems ridiculously stupid.

You'll know when you are ready. I walked away from it in June. I was tired of the issues related to alcohol. The biggest change will be better sleep, better mood and you will save alot of money. Eventually you will get angry that you let alcohol control your life and this makes you dislike it more. 👍

@@Toastburro I did the 'I got no money' detox. Had no choice. Was a sweaty shakey few days, but got through it. That was back in June. Now feel great, have a few grand in the bank, eating and sleeping great. Doing things I enjoy without drinking. A few years ago I was walking around Miami homeless and struggling. Spending food stamp money on cooking wine. (The salty kind) . That was a low point. Looking back, I wasted so much time and effort chasing that shit. Now, I'm in the UK, Wales to be exact, and things are much better. Relapse is always a possibility, and I knew in the past I wasn't ready to stop. This time I think I've drawn that line and choose not to go over it. I'm tired of losing everything, and I'm tired of the shame. It took many years to get to this point, and hopefully I can walk away from it forever. I'll never forget though. A bit like a ex girlfriend who tore you to pieces and you always took her back. 🙈 😆

All I can say, do it for them.
The rest is on you brother.
You can do this, but make sure to speak openly with your wife about why you want to work so much, she might be thinking you’re doing it for yourself.

Stopped drinking as part of a fitness challenge… slipped up for carnival in February, got completely wasted and passed out and vomited at a party in my own house. And since then don‘t even want to drink anymore.
Still I actually enjoy going to bars and clubs… last weekend on friday i was out until 4 and Saturday until 6… didn‘t feel like a complete trainwreck but sunday was really not so productive just because of the overwhelming tiredness .
It is not just the alcohol but at my age of 38 it is just the lack of sleep that fucks you up.

@@Toastburro I started December 6th, 2021, with the intention of only doing a year. When December 6th 2022, arrived. I went to the store with the intention of buying a six pack of beer and left the grocery store with a twelve pack of Topo-Chico sparkling mineral water. Quitting alcohol has been one of the best decisions of my life. Physically, financially, emotionally and mentally I have improved tremendously. I look forward to each day and the next day, knowing I will not have a headache or hangover! For anyone that is struggling with alcohol. I just want you to know that the first two weeks were difficult for me. After that, it got much easier. Nature, exercise and stretching (Yoga) is a MUST! I had to start moving forward so I would not concentrate on the past...

Well, as for me, I didn't notice any improvements when I stopped drinking. I sleep better after having a glass or two of wine or one beer, and I don't gain weight. I am active and in great health. But if I drank a bottle of wine or four beers, I probably wouldn't sleep well and wouldn't feel great in the morning...

When did you first notice a change?
I've completed Dry January and drank about 20-30 units a week in different forms (beer, wine, whisky) before that, but didn't as yet notice something different, maybe I should hold on longer, but sometimes not drinking is really hard to drive away boredom, loneliness and anxiety. Problems just don't vanish simly because you quit drinking, but I know that going back isn't the solution either.... Also I'm more withdrawn because going out is more boring for me without drinking

Yeah it’s not easy, the best tip I have is to get busy, start a business on the side, get a new hobby or something that doesn’t allow you to have boredom or too much time off. At least it helps in the beginning.

Thanks for writing this man. I quit for 2 months straight in 2020 but didn't notice much of a difference like you so I started again. I quit again in the fall of 2021 and have been sober since (16 months). I quit strictly for health reasons. I am a lot more withdrawn, bored, and seem to have much less energy and motivation. The only thing I can think of now is to move a long ways from where I am, go dark for a period of time and try to start my life over. I was hoping for this moment of clarity that a lot of people speak about but it seems as if nothing's noticeably changed other than the loneliness and boredom. I always enjoyed drinking alcohol and outside of the health reasons it never really caused me much trouble. I'm glad to hear that I'm not alone and wish you the best.

To be honest, I’m shocked that you haven’t seen any improvement and are 16 months in!
Like not even a little bit? A little fat loss? Improved resistance while working out? Focus and clarity?
So you think alcohol gave you the energy?
To be fair it’s the first time that I hear this.
I think it’s good actually that not everyone feels the same, we are all different from each other.
Have you tried drinking alcohol free replacements?
I had the chance to try an alcohol free gin tonic and to be honest I was pretty impressed by the taste.
So if it’s just for the taste, there might be some alternative out there.
Apart from that, I can’t really help you out, I am proud of you that you are 16 months sober!
I wish you all the best in your journey!🙏🏻💪🏻

    • @greatlakes4753
      @greatlakes4753 Год назад

@@Toastburro I used alcohol free replacements for about two months but lost interest in them. I did lose some weight but I drastically changed my diet after quitting per doctor's orders. I needed to get my protein levels up so I've been consuming about 200g a day for over a year. My body was retaining fluid so I was put on diuretics and had to drastically reduce sodium intake. I'm 6'4" and weigh 225. I was probably around 240-250 average for the last 25 years. My current weight is where I was sophomore year of college after filling out.
I know alcohol didn't give me energy by any means but it seemed to get me to loosen up and then I really felt driven and focused. I don't really have any horror stories like lost jobs, broken marriages, DUI's, wrecked vehicles, blackouts etc.... that are common at AA meetings. It was really a quit drinking or die situation for me. The thing is I didn't find it particularly difficult to do so. I don't even think about it much. Over the last eight years I have been in a business partnership with someone who I feel is completely controlled by the sunk cost fallacy and it has been disastrous. That's the reason I feel the need to completely remove myself from the situation and disappear for a length of time. I'm mid 40's, single, no kids, house paid for and I have a spotless driving record with a commercial license with all the endorsements and TSA clearance. It wouldn't be hard finding work. I just gotta cut ties with the business dealings and cross collateralization as they currently exist. Basically what I'm saying is that my parents are using me for a retirement income stream and as a full time unpaid staffer at their own independent living facility. That's the situation I need to remove myself from.
I don't plan on drinking again but I also don't look back on it as the root cause of the situation I'm in. Maybe that will change when I hit two years sober this fall, we'll see. I was just glad to hear from the guy above that's two months sober and hasn't noticed much. So many of the quit drinking stories are "the skies opened up and everything became clear" type. I feel like I knew 8 years ago and still know now what needs to be done. It's tough because it's family. Didn't mean to ramble on but it felt good to get off my chest anyhow. Thanks for responding btw.

In essence a good video but you contradict yourself and deal with this topic like it's an absolute. "Why do people have to judge someone who doesn't have to drink poison" See you had to add in the backhand of "poison" that basically casts a judgement on anyone who DOES drink - no matter how much. Moderation is perfectly fine for the body and mind, some people might like to unwind after a big meal with a small glass of ice and liqor, or they may have friends and just want to enjoy 1-2 beers for a soft buzz and discussion lubricant. Do they NEED to? No, but if it's in acceptable amounts and you're not addictive then there's no reason why you have to drink nothing. It's people's projection of your own inability to handle substances in minor amounts when they act like you have to be cold turkey your whole life.

I appreciate the fact that you took time to comment and leave actual constructive criticism.
      You’re absolutely right.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying a cocktail every now and then.
I would say to use better words: I don’t understand why people think you have a problem with alcohol if you don’t drink it, no one else will make that question if you don’t take LSD, or Coke, or any other drug.
You cannot tell me alcohol isn’t categorized as a drug, if I drink three beers, I’m not allowed to drive anymore because my mind is “foggy”.
It’s very unlikely to make damages in your body if you drink responsibly like you said.
Anything, if abused will be dangerous for the body, even water…
I really appreciate your view on this one .

There are plenty of ways, you can meet people at the gym, you can make a post on Reddit and see who responds (maybe in a business related sub Reddit), you can go to conferences and seminars.
If you really cannot find anyone, stay alone for a while, that will teach you things nobody else can teach you.
And in my opinion, when you stay alone and you start to do a lot of things, the right people will find a way to get to you.
