A friend and I were at school one day when they were serving "spooky" dishes. One of them was roasted crickets. My friend and I both dared each other to eat a cricket so we counted to 3 and took a bite. We were both surprised by how... not bad it was. It was a little bland, probably could have used a little seasoning or something, but they actually would go really well with hummus or some kind of dip. We kept eating them because they were the best-tasting thing there, lol.

Khan yes, in foods where bugs are not intentionally put therefore are not listed as ingredients they are, but it is part of some vegan diets to not eat anything that has red dye or intentional bugs on it. It’s a very specific kind g of veganism especially since Peter Singer, the most famous philosopher to talk about animals beings sensients beings and who most vegans follow does not mention bugs in the category of beings who are able to have feelings. I personality don’t exclude things with bugs from my diet but being vegan excludes most things that have them just by not having sweets (most have milk or eggs) candy with red dye (most have gelatin in it) so in a way we do eat less bugs then most people but it’s not like we actually worry about it, besides some very specific groups of vegans

Like eating, feeding their colonies, finding shelter and mating. If they die it's not exactly as important as like an animal cuz bugs breed like crazy. 1) bugs are bad for you. They will give you rabbit starvation.
2) the places that eat bugs, they don't just eat bugs. They eat chicken, pork, beef, and fish as well.
3) there are bugs toxic to humans in the same way chocolate is to dogs. In small quantities virtually everything becomes acceptable to the human body.
That doesn't mean you should start drinking mercury.
4) the FDA regulates bug parts because they are toxic and they carry a lot more diseases. Eating bugs is not healthy unless you're using them to lose weight, but you can just eat rabbits for the same effect and exact same problem.

I just looked up "why you shouldn't eat bugs" and got a list of links either explaining why you should for health reasons or why in-spite of those benefits the sustainability is over hyped.
None of the results said anything about Bugs being unhealthy despite specifically using search terms that should be biased in favor of such articles.

It's a matter of perception on what "vermin" even is, it's something that changes with the times. A couple centuries ago, the idea of feeding people lobster was considered inhumane, as they were essentially the "rats of the sea", and even giving them to prisoners was too low for much of society. Now they're a delicacy that's associated with wealth and fine dining. Besides, even considering just modern day perception, The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN estimates approximately 1/4 of the world regularly consumes insects intentionally as a part of their regular diet. That's a hell of a lot of people, and from a lot of cultures and backgrounds that do well enough for themselves, not just the poor and starving.

For me the problem is the texture of bugs rather than the taste. My brother shared with me a bag of fried crickets, and they tasted fine, but they kept getting stuck in my teeth and the crunch was very unique and unpleasant.
I feel you there. Cricket flour might be better. It's ground-up crickets that can be added to baked goods. My sister once made brownies using it and they were pretty good.

Not all crustaceans or even arthropods are bugs, Adam is just being disingenuous.
Just about the first thing in this video is a fallacy (false equivalency). "If you've eaten a lobster or a crayfish you've eaten a bug. They're both arthropods." Well, I guess, by that "logic" I'm a cannibal. I've eaten cows so I've basically eaten humans. They're both mammals so I'm going to imply they're both the same thing.
Same goes for the second fallacy - suggesting that, because we unintentionally eat parts of insects in our food, which make up a miscue percentage, we should therefore deliberately eat insects is like saying that, because a food may contain small amounts of saturated fat we should deliberately eat blobs of saturated fat. Just because food contains a small amount of something doesn't follow that we SHOULD deliberately eat that thing.
The only downside to crickets: Legs get stuck in your teeth (spoken from experience).

Adam doesn't do research nor make the script. Writers make the script while the research team- well it's obvious. All has and does is sit there, look pretty, look into the camera and say what the script says. Essentially an anchorman but instead he doesn't read off a teleprompter.
He seems smart on the show but that's just what they want you to think to keep you watching, same reason why some people will immediately believe whatever a scientist will say "Cause scientists are smart". Also not to mention if people think your smart then they'll usually listen to what you have to say but I can guarantee he's not smart and he has no idea what he's talking about. Dunno if you guys watched Snowpiercer but during that scene where they revealed the protein bars were made from bugs and all the lower passengers were horrified I felt like they were being such fickle babies, especially since cannibalism was common during times of starvation.
Right? I'm sure the plane passengers who crashed in the Andes would've loved the roach protein bars as an alternative to eating their dead.

@@floridianrailauto9032 you dont. snails have been a staple of the french kitchen for a long time and they have no problem with desease. I tried it when I was on vacation there and it tastes realy good with garlic butter. I have also tried insects in the past. they taste fine, but not very exciting.

@@lordtullus9942 The shellac wax is harmless for humans. It is okay to consume it. However, the non-organic produce uses petroleum-based wax, which is very luckily to be carcinogenic.
You know I hate bugs a little less after watching this video.
I’ve had bugs cooked before, not added to anything. And it made a good snack. Silkworms can be dry inside a bit, but soft, and crickets are crunchy. They’re not bad, people are just squeamish.
So, imagine being a vegan and realizing you always be eating bug meat.
Bugs aren't sentient, they don't count. They're at least not being intentionally harvested in nightmarish industrial farms like fish, poultry and mammalian livestock. And even if they were, they wouldn't feel it. Insects simply do not possess the neurological scope of perception that humans and other animals do.

@Samuel Soliday well. We basically, don't have any kind of bug or spider, who is outright poisoneus to humans (they have poison, just not enough to be of consequence for humans).
Plus the case the video makes, can be made for rats and even for Human meat. To be completely honest, statisticaly you eat more Human meat (accidents happen, plenty of times, And i am not talking just about meat industry), or rat meat (those can get almost everywhere) than any sort of bugs.

Plus for example, I lived most of my life in the country. I know what i ate. I butchered my own meet, mostly rabbits. I helped with milking the cows. And with the crops since i was 8. I know what i ate, and it wasn't bugs of any kind. Thanks to EU standarts of the food industry lowered, that is sadly the truth. But there is no reason to go eat bugs like Adam suggests based on some lonely poorly written blog.

As for the Adams show. It was great at the beginning. But it has more and more problems with fact checking lately.
For example Flails. I posses my great great great great..... Going Back to 15th century.... Great grandfathers flail. According to Adam. Those were never used. Gues what in 1415. We had an army, And Flails of several kinds helped that peasant army to repel several crusades.

I hate anti agriculture arguments that ignore this, and the non-edible side of livestock. 40% of cows are edible, but you can't get leather from crickets, or wool from ladybugs. Bone meal and powder is used heavily in a LOT of industries, and even animal urine is used to distill urea and other chemicals used throughout productions.
