    The "ex" software update for the RD-88 is 99 $. Nice to have a new piano sound available. But why not include some new F.M. & Wurlitzer Pianos, because they are really weak on the RD-88? Piano bass notes right, upper notes left side, why?

    Had an RD2000 and quickly sold it. Only had one decent piano emulation IMHO but another issue was the feel of the black keys. They felt slippy and oddly textured. I also wonder about simulated string resonance from adjacent strings not being played and how that has been modelled, but overall, these sounds to my ears sound is very, very good in terms of intonation under touch and at this price point, its going to be hard to find fault. I’ll definitely try before I buy. Quite excited about this model and Keybed.

    I totally agree that Roland should not use modeling instead should use sampling. I bought the entry level keyboard of Roland just because the keyboard is better designed then other brands. That’s all. Oh more instruments voice as well.

    Thanks for the great instrument presentation. I have a question: can I record my own song directly onto a USB drive in MIDI format on this Roland? I’d like to insert a USB drive into the USB port, play a piece in MIDI recording mode, then remove the USB drive and insert it into my computer (which is in another room) to import it into Logic Pro as MIDI. Best regards.

    Good to see the RD1000/MKS20 tone in there. Is it as good as the one included in the RD2000 though? Does it have the original’s chorus setting?

    • @tonylancer7367
      @tonylancer7367 5 месяцев назад +2

      I almost thought that the EP tones from the MKS-20/RD-1000 were included but no, it's not the case. To answer you, the RD-1000 sound has been included in almost all the Roland boards with the original chorus, not sure if you've ever played or looked for the sound?

    • @strongchord4384
      @strongchord4384 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@tonylancer7367 But in the video you can see ‘RD1000’ captioned and on the kbd’s display so surely it is included? Re your second point I have an MKS20 module but if I can get away with its main sound + chorus included in the RD88 then that’s great. I’ve already contacted Roland and up until this EX announcement they were adamant that it was only available in the RD2000. The question is whether the RD88’s version is as good as the one in its big brother.

    • @Rfx222
      @Rfx222 5 месяцев назад +2

      As an owner of an ancient Mks-20 I only can say the RD-1000 preset shown on this demo sounds 0% similar to the original and more like a synthetic saw pad. About original's chorus, no, it doesn't sounds like the original, this one is a joke.

    I don't know much about keys. Does this upgrade means it will have the same pianos supernatural sound as the FP-30x-60x? I liked the piano sounds of the fp-x series, but I feel they may lack the "rest" ( as for a nice Rhodes, organ, ep), also doesn't appear to show much control, although being basic piano is understandable. In terms of sound and playing does this change anything between FP and RD entry line?

      @@WisnuHimawanKaraokeThe E Series was relabeled Chinese junk. A while back, they came out with the FP-E50 which has cutting edge features and styles other arranger keyboards don't have.
      Their latest release is the new Go:Keys 3/5 that has most of those features at a budget price with found and style expansion from their vast Roland Cloud selection, always growing. It's hard to beat. Other than that, which is a major release with lots of interest and praise, they are focusing on their professional level keyboards, like the RD-2000 EX and this RD-88 EX.
      I am very satisfied with their new releases, and even the original RD-88/RD-08.
      Not Roland but the other phenomenal keyboard in my eyes that has been out awhile is the Yamaha CK61. The weighted key CK88 is great, too, but at twice the price at $2000.

    WARNING!!! From the RD-88 usuer forum: "I've wasted $100 so no one else has to. Unless this upgrade unlocks some great 'to be announced' features, this is a HUGE waste of time & hard earned cash. I had hoped that the EX would also mean more expansion capability since a piano library was included... Nope, you lose a slot with the included Piano Expansion scam. Oh, and the pianos... Yeah, THEM. Not only are these retooled iterations of 1 piano sound, which is about half the volume of the factory pianos, but the quality is only about as good as the Piano 1/1w/d sample found in the 'Common' bank included with the instrument. I actually like that one more. And, after spending a Benjamin on this scam, the keyboards information page doesn't even indicate EX, which would have been a consolation for those selling this keyboard. SMH. I am officially done with Roland."

    The design looks like a calculator from the 90s, but it sounds not that plastic like he previous Roland D-pianos. I'm impressed. In comparison to the Yamaha YC 61 its got really strong piano sounds with good bass. The Rhodes sounds are flat like the previous versions and the synths...well...plastic with no depth, but usable.

    Just got a RD-88. It’s really good. Great keyboard in this price range, low weight, and I really like how much you can edit it - also for use as a master keyboard.
    But I am disappointed by the quality of the Wurlitzer sounds. Roland used to have a great modeled Wurlitzer but this piano only seems to include the Rhodes.
    Any possibility that there an expansion for better Wurlitzer piano sounds? Perhaps the existing expansions are better than built-in sounds?

      Decided to try the EXZ011 expansion. And although it’s not the best-ever Wurlitzer, I think it’s a vast improvement compared to what’s included in the RD-88 by default. The Clavs seem better / drier too. So for me it solved my main gripe with the product.

      You want a home console digital piano like HP704 or LX708, or a formal portable digital piano like FP30X, FP60X, or FP90X.
      Stage keyboards like this one don't get music stands, you bring your own, it's not like they are expensive accessories.

    Is it true that this EX model has exactly the same hardware as the old RD 88 but with the $99 software update included? If so, then how can the EX model be that much more expensive? Makes no sense. Maybe it's just me but most of the piano patches sounds the same except different filters and velocity curves. I'm losing my faith in Roland.

    • @CrazyDriverSwed
      @CrazyDriverSwed Месяц назад

      From a sustainability point I think it's a great thing to extend the life of products by updating the software and sounds, but charging $99 for a few sounds when manufactures like Nord is releasing top notch samples for free for their instruments make Roland look sneaky. Calling this a EX version is just a scam . Put a sticker that say software version 1.5 would be okey and release the new sounds for free to all existing RD 88. But no, not Roland. I was two second from buying the old RD 88 when I saw the new RD 88 EX being released, but this thing completely changed my mind. Sorry Roland, you won't get my money this time.
