It’s great to see the stigma coming off marijuana. I mean, honestly. It’s not really my cup of tea, but it’s a better numbing agent for aches and pains than many prescribed drugs. The league will gladly send these guys to surgery and home with a script to have them get reinjured and need more and more. I’d rather they medicate with edible candy (opposed to smoke, but that’s ok too) than some of these nasty pain pills. The relief from pain and general aches is incredible. Inflammation reduces, arthritis and old injuries can fully rest. One thing you notice on weed is how tense you always are. It helps you say “wait, there’s a lot of pressure in how I’m leaning on my arm. Give that a break”. It’s truly a great thing.
There's interesting similarities in this and the NHL via former player Jeff Friesen promoting Marijuana and CBD use over Pain Killers, which led to multiple addictions and health problems among players across the league.
The current drug testing schedule for the NFL is pretty generous and has a high cutoff - you can still technically fail for marijuana, but you'd have to be beyond 150ng/dl on the test which is in practice basically impossible to hit unless you literally only breathe dabs. So like if someone had a legit problem with weed, it'd still get handled, but unless you're packing yourself in it like rosin you're good to go.
How much further research is really needed on marijuana? Anyone who has taken opoids and marijuana can attest to the dramatic difference of risk vs reward between the two.
I live with chronic pain. Have been for about 11 years now. I’ve always wanted to get off the medication I’m on now and try cannabis. But I can’t afford it. What needs to happen is our insurance companies need to cover the cost like they do with prescription drugs.
You know what makes a good medicine one that's safe and one that's effective and it kind of goes hand in hand if it's not safe then it really won't be that effective the name of the game is to get ahead not trade one element for another sure some people might say the side effect is mild but you're still trading
