  • You never saw it on Antenna TV in the U.S. nor on DejaView in Canada. This came from a CHCH airing. John Ritter voiceover.

What a strange show indeed. I didn't realize how much editing and repackaging was done for syndication. The original ABC episodes had much longer recordings of the opening themes and alternate recordings for each season, except maybe for the zoo openings. I preferred the earlier episodes with The Ropers so didn't watch much of the later shows. Even the titles of the spinoffs were changed. "The Ropers" became "Three's Company Friends: The Ropers", "Three's a Crowd" became "Three's Company Too", and both original themes were replaced with an instrumental version of the later TC theme. It definitely has to be given awards for number production changes. I know episodes are usually edited for time, but to change the name and music within a show, definitely odd. Luckily spinoffs for other shows weren't handled the same (except for that "on Prime" PrimeTV used to do...ugh.

CHCH is running the bumpers from the original ABC broadcasts, which are not on the DVDs. The DVDs have the original uncut episodes of course, but it would have been a nice bonus to have the bumpers too.

Funny thing, as I've only caught this bumper just the one time. Just like the bumper for The Love Boat has only come up no more than 2 or 3 times, a Cheers bumper (that I didn't record) and a St. Elsewhere bumper (that I did record) once each.

The Brady Bunch is their next classic sitcom addition this Tuesday. Did CHCH show Diff’rent Strokes or All in the Family yet on that block?

They have not. They have shown The Jeffersons, Maude (spinoffs of All in the Family), Good Times (spinoff of Maude) and The Facts of Life (spinoff of Diff'rent Strokes) at different points in time (first three have been run twice; Facts is on the third run). And Silver Spoons (which finished up not long ago) had a crossover with Arnold (who also appeared in a couple of Facts episodes).
