Nice to see a SAAB getting the attention it deserves. My biggest regret about my motoring career is that I never could afford a SAAB when they were a current brand.
Beautiful car , well worth a full restoration, old saabs had so much character, i loved my 99 combi coupe , it was my daily driver for 5 years , I was sad when I sold it 😮, wish I never had now 😊
When you started to clean it I thought 'well it's not too bad' Then opening the doors I could see bits falling off so it is likely the underside is rotten. On the plus side the interior is in good condition and despite the headlining sagging it may be savable. It will be interesting to see if the engine is free and if it runs that will be a bonus. Edward does well and earns his keep getting rid of the cobwebs for Claire and he doesn't argue! Thanks for the post Elton and Claire. 👍👍
A friend at school's Father was a Saab fan. He usually changed every four years. Not that there was much difference back then, but he was friendly with his local dealer so each year, they'd "upgrade" his 900 to whatever the latest tweak was!
Another great video. I do love a Saab 900. This one is more than a little crusty. Well done both of you for the clean. I’m glad Claire got a new cassette for her collection 😀
With this video i became your subscriber. Considering the SAAB it will need a brave person to tackle the rust issues. Aside that, in my humble opinion it should be saved. I would love to bring it over to Cyprus and have it sorted. It is a fine piece of automotive engineering and history. Thank you for reading and keep going with your channel
The car cleaned up very good. Both of you did a great job! If a person didn't look at the bottom third of the car it could almost be a restoration project. Especially with how clean and good shape the interior is in. As Elton said it's a good parts car. Great about the Enya tape. I really enjoy listening to her. Keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing with us. Cheers
I had 2 SAABs, they complete me, they make you feel special. I had a 1981 99GL then a 1982 900GLS, the car world's best kept secret, how a SAAB makes you feel. Memories of travelling flat-out from Birmingham to Cumbria at 135mph all day long. No cameras back then. Interiors are indestructible and mechanically they are pretty robust indeed. Shame its a parts car. I think you'd love it if you got it running.
I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who’s owned a Saab and not liked it. They must have built some seriously good cars in their day. It’s a shame this one has deteriorated so far. A few years ago, it might have stood a lot better chance. You never know, though, somebody may take it on.
I had same year same colour 3 door 900 Turbo. This interior is excellent and some bits of paint, the doors sounded like that back in the day. At 7 years old I found the first rust hole underneath, so they are far from rust prrofed underneath
It cleaned up quite well, the interior does look nice, even with all the rot around the edges it could be quite bad underneath, I'm sure it'll be a good parts car
Thanks for saving this one, even if only as a parts car. It may be saveable but would require a total stripdown to establish the facts. Regardless, I imagine a saab owner would love this as a source of spares. Thanks for posting.
Surprisingly solid considering where it was sat, other leaser brands would be so much rustier! Plus you wouldn't be able to open the doors on them without them falling off (Escort springs to mind). Any that interior looks mint!
Worked with Saab in the eighties great looking cars timeless styling and yes I ended up buying and selling these for many years The wheels aren't minlites they are Saab accessories back in the day and like the roof visor dealer added
Thanks for showing us the unpeeling of the old Swede. 😉 I love your "automobile archeology" channel. I saw you two (with child in tow) at the NEC. I hope you enjoyed the show.
Another well-done video, Claire & Elton! It did clean up pretty good & though it may be a patts car, it IS complete, a huge bonus. Lol, @ 1:15 you did set yourself up for that Elton. Cheers from the USA!
Not a parts car! That depends on the unibody. It’s a fender and hood swap full restoration- inferior and engine entire stripped. The problem is it’s not rare in the UK; in the US, the five door is exceptional
Great to see you both back on the channel I love Saab cars but sadly It looks like a parts car. Great seats for someone with a good car that has seen a lot of wear. Keep on doing what you do... You can't win them all
Try using Stardrops from home bargain, a good squirt in warm water, takes dirt and moss of and only £1 a bottle, takes everything off for a mild soap solution.😊
Only 10 or 12 years old when it was laid up and it looks original and cared for. I wonder if the engine gave up. Either way it seems areal shame to have left it to die.
10 to 12 years was end of life for cars back then, mostly due to rust, I'm thinking maybe rust or that auto box was the reason it was left, either way its only good for some parts now.
I had a 1966 Saab 96 2 stroke aprox 48hp with a freewheeling feature downhill, you pulled a lever to freewheel downhill (and got out to push uphill lol) had you considered contactind jennychem for a sponsorship?
Automatic 5-door non-Turbo Saabs not worth a massive amount. Still an interesting car though. I've had 3 Turbos back in the day. Brilliant cars. the 16V Turbo S was my favourite. Went like stink !
Cool car shame its been sat so long , cleaning something this dirty i would spray an all purpose cleaner on first and start from the bottom up as it will push the cleaner better
Always rated SAAB , they went their own route they couldn’t make them change hence went out biz , new ones can’t imagine but def wud be EV but with far advanced features of anything else
Had one of those except mine was blue. Worth restoring imo ofc like any restoration it will cost more than its worth however they are fabulous cars. One of the only non British cars I love. Far far far better than any merc or bm they all need scraping. People with taste bought Saab. Those who bought mercs and and bms were and still are ripped off by horrifically badly built shit boxes.
When I was young I had a boss who had a Saab - I couldn’t understand his obsession. 35 years later, on my third Saab I get it !!! And do check underneath - they were built like tanks. My 2006 93 vert has just had a clean bill of health on its MoT with the ex-Saab mechanic commenting on those solid parts.
What a shame to see a handsome car like that reach the end of the road - but I wouldn't want to be the one crawling underneath with a tub of Plastic Padding and some chicken wire. It's amazing how gripping these car washing videos can be, and yet no passers-by pause to watch me rinsing the wife's grubby Corsa.
I never (NEVER) admire any car that is Front Wheel Drive ! But especially anything that out of Europe… I have a penchant disregard for almost all European cars. They’re a con, overrated, unreliable and expensive to buy, and eventually even worse to repair.! Ask ANY REPUTABLE MECHANICAL WORKSHOP for an HONEST opinion, and the same consistent answer will always be obvious.!!
Nice to see a SAAB getting the attention it deserves. My biggest regret about my motoring career is that I never could afford a SAAB when they were a current brand.
I have to say I love your channel, we need more people like you to save these old classic cars.
Thank you Mike 🙏
I'm an other classic saver :)
Watchin it get cleaned is well satisfying
Defo worth saving what a lovely car, the cost defo out weighs the value but defo deserves the love 🙏
Amazing. People cleaning cars. That's entertainment.
Sure is, we’re the new football.
Beautiful car , well worth a full restoration, old saabs had so much character, i loved my 99 combi coupe , it was my daily driver for 5 years , I was sad when I sold it 😮, wish I never had now 😊
Definitely a timeless classic
When you started to clean it I thought 'well it's not too bad' Then opening the doors I could see bits falling off so it is likely the underside is rotten. It would have been fun to drive her around for a while with all the green mold or moss or whatever that stuff was. She looks to be in great shape.
Another great video. I do love a Saab 900. This one is more than a little crusty. Well done both of you for the clean.
I’m glad Claire got a new cassette for her collection 😀
Honestly I’m over the moon about the Enya cassette…..yes I’m easily pleased 😂 So glad you enjoyed the video ~Claire
It’s definitely worth putting back on the road
Good stuff, I used to love these 900s.
Nice video Claire, glamorous as always ;) looking forward to Elton trying to start the motor at some point!
Great car in it's day
Well cleaned
Thanks 😁 got to love a Saab!!

Just one of the coolest car shapes ever, I still have never had a 900 turbo, got to scratch that itch soon!
What a great car to bring back and restore, would hope someone will take on the challenge.
The car cleaned up very good. Both of you did a great job! If a person didn't look at the bottom third of the car it could almost be a restoration project. Sure there be someone out there would take it on
We hope so, but the last few barn find Saabs we've taken to auction have flopped spectacularly.
Bejesus. You actually LIKE this car !!! After THAT, I see no reason to doubt the people who say they like the shapes of modern ars and EV's......
Triumph slant 4 under the bonnet!!
Saab stopped using the Triumph derived engine in 1977. They brought engine building in-house in 1972.
This is the B201 engine which was based on a triumph design, but it was heavily redesigned be SAAB.
No that's saabs H type engine from 1981 , wish I had a pound for everyone of these I fitted a modified timing chain and tensioner kit too ,
Excellent love watching you both together excellent content as always ❤
I had 2 SAABs, they complete me, they make you feel special.

I have a 1981 GLs 4 door with the boot in midnight blue with the twin Zenith Stromberg carbs, only 38,000 miles on the clock, rust free and I love it!
I had same year same colour 3 door 900 Turbo. This interior is excellent and some bits of paint, the doors sounded like that back in the day. At 7 years old I found the first rust hole underneath, so they are far from rust prrofed underneath
I like these and for a car that's been outside for 20+ years it doesn't look too bad
We really like them too, they were so ahead of their time. Still haven’t driven one though…..yet 😉
It cleaned up quite well, the interior does look nice, even with all the rot around the edges it could be quite bad underneath, I'm sure it'll be a good parts car
Back arches were the achiles heal of these cars but look after them they will look after you for a very long time beautiful proper cars
Any that interior looks mint!
why dont you clean a car from the top and work yourway downwards
We would usually….. it was just to be a bit more aesthetic and get some more interesting camera shots 😀
😢cleaning from the bottom is best, you can see what area you've done
Would be the obvious choice 👍
Rinse 1st then snow foam then Rinse again that's what most car wash places I've been to do. 😅
They know what they doing
Looks mint from inside.
Worked with Saab in the eighties great looking cars timeless styling and yes I ended up buying and selling these for many years
The wheels aren't minlites they are Saab accessories back in the day and like the roof visor dealer added
At 4:54 you can see "MINILITE ENGLAND" on the rim of the wheel.
Nice 👌
Only you two could get me to watch a video about a saab !
😂😂 I dare say we will find some more barn find minis soon 😀 ~Claire
The Green Truthfully looked Good!
We like a ‘nature car’, too!
Would of liked to of seen, a turn of the key fire up maybe battery & fuel all it needed
if the basic structure is ok it might be salvageable, the panels can be replaced I've seen worse being rebuilt
Had a few in the day ,nice cars, very solid and well built. l liked the previous mid 70 s models .l think they were just called 9 s
A brilliant channel guys keep it up
Great video guys. Worth watching the cleaning transformation 😂. Enjoyed watching. 👍🏼👍🏼
The Moss Security sticker is ironic.😊
Well done
Would love to see the 405 jam sandwich 😎🚓
That did make a brief appearance in one of our videos… ruclips.net/video/WG0lhuqr41c/видео.html
Another great clean up. Sadly not looking economical to repair. As always a great video. Have a good week. Marc from Australia 🇦🇺
Thanks for showing us the unpeeling of the old Swede. 😉
I love your "automobile archeology" channel.
I saw you two (with child in tow) at the NEC. I hope you enjoyed the show.
Thank you. We had a great time, as did little Joshua. Hope you enjoyed it, too 😀
Another well-done video, Claire & Elton! It did clean up pretty good & though it may be a patts car, it IS complete, a huge bonus.
Lol, @ 1:15 you did set yourself up for that Elton.
Cheers from the USA!
The things we do to keep our partners happy, eh? 😂 ~ Elton
@UKBarnFinds Lol, yes sir! Knowing which choices to battle is KEY!!
Love a Saab!
Not a parts car! That depends on the unibody. It’s a fender and hood swap full restoration- inferior and engine entire stripped. The problem is it’s not rare in the UK; in the US, the five door is exceptional
Seen fair worse cars restored, it’s came up better than I expected. Too good for parts I’d think. Certainly interested to see if it ran
that volvo limo is also worth get some TLC.
That's MOT'd. It will be sent back to auction soon, as we've had our fun with it 😊
Agree a parts car…. Helping keep other Saab’s on the road
💯
Great to see you both back on the channel I love Saab cars but sadly It looks like a parts car. Great seats for someone with a good car that has seen a lot of wear.
Keep on doing what you do... You can't win them all
Try using Stardrops from home bargain, a good squirt in warm water, takes dirt and moss of and only £1 a bottle, takes everything off for a mild soap solution.😊
Brilliant! Will try that; thank you 😁
Do you have a rain water collection system from all your roofing to save mains water , as always a quality video
No, but I wish we did, as the water would also be better for washing cars.
My 99GL had similar rusty wheel arches. Had to visit the welding shop before every MOT. :(
Many youngsters reading this will find it hard to comprehend that regular welding was a thing back in the day 😀
In some parts of the world that would be considered 'above average' condition.
Excuse me a piece of information the frogs and the tadpoles where are Alessandro from Rome Italy😂😂😂😂😂
Cant wait for you to find me a zundapp Elton ,AN is so quiet the resident contrarian is losing the will to live
I must take a look!
Great looking cars......do you remember "The Paradise Club" with Lesley Grantham? He had a black one in that series :)
Yes! Blimey that’s a blast from the past 😁
For sale one garden find Saab, broken stereo but a mint copy of ‘Enya - Watermark’ included… that should do it😂
😂😂 spot on Simon!
Only 10 or 12 years old when it was laid up and it looks original and cared for. I wonder if the engine gave up. Either way it seems areal shame to have left it to die.

That actually sounds like fun! No, we haven't spoken to anyone about sponsorship. Currently, we like being free agents, but you never know.
Automatic 5-door non-Turbo Saabs not worth a massive amount. Still an interesting car though.
I've had 3 Turbos back in the day. Brilliant cars. the 16V Turbo S was my favourite. Went like stink !
I've certainly seen folk rebuild complete floors etc. it takes a lot to kill a Saab!
Probably a great parts car. Back on the road? Don't think so.
It's a shame but will definitely make a good parts car
thats a cracking jet wash u have whats the Model??
Karcher K4 Power Control, they are about £200
@@UKBarnFinds cheers need a new one
Cool car shame its been sat so long , cleaning something this dirty i would spray an all purpose cleaner on first and start from the bottom up as it will push the cleaner better
Could be saved depending on how much money one wants too thrown at it in the long run.
There’s a tape in the cassette player is probably the missing Enya tape 😊….. ha ha that are teach me I should’ve kept watching
😂😂
Always rated SAAB , they went their own route they couldn’t make them change hence went out biz , new ones can’t imagine but def wud be EV but with far advanced features of anything else
The sped up version makes me wonder why you didn’t move the bin closer😂
😂😂
Not that old when it was tucked away then? Parts car now I reckon.
Love to see that Peugeot police car
That did make a brief appearance in one of our earlier videos:
ruclips.net/video/WG0lhuqr41c/видео.html
It's a good parts car, plenty of useful spares.
I'm still not convinced snow foam does anything
When I was young I had a boss who had a Saab - I couldn’t understand his obsession. 35 years later, on my third Saab I get it !!!
And do check underneath - they were built like tanks. My 2006 93 vert has just had a clean bill of health on its MoT with the ex-Saab mechanic commenting on those solid parts.
An uncracked dashboard is worth big money.
Green machine😂
Just a very decent condition parts car, For someone who owns one already. No point restoring, You'd Loose thousands once finished if put for sale..
Saabs are good cars i drive a volvo
Hello, what model of Karcher is that? 1:21
It’s a Karcher K4 Power Control. They’re about £200. We got ours from eBay.
@@UKBarnFinds sound, thanks mate!!
My pleasure. It’s a good little washer. One day, I’d love a hot water one, but they’re seriously expensive.
Get some new fuel in it , new oil, and filter good battery and it will start
Sad to see a car deteriorated so badly
You can easy fix all that rust cut it out and weld new pieces in
That's a parts car.. Unless there's a nutter Saab geek out there. I'm a bit of one, but not that far!!!
That’s exactly our opinion with this one. Would love for someone to prove us wrong, though.
Try tasty classics loves a challenge to revive dont look that bad.
It will be okay as a parts car.
A shame it was left to get like this and it looks too far gone to bother with restoration.
I never (NEVER) admire any car that is Front Wheel Drive ! But especially anything that out of Europe… I have a penchant disregard for almost all European cars. They’re a con, overrated, unreliable and expensive to buy, and eventually even worse to repair.! Do I admit I've got the Enya and Classics (theres a series of 3 double/triples) albums on CDs 🫣.
