- It’s important to know how to connect and charge your Kia EV.
If you’re in the vehicle, press the brake pedal, engage the parking brake, turn off the vehicle and make sure the doors are unlocked, which unlocks the charging door…
The charging door can also be released from inside the vehicle by pressing the Charging Door Open button.
Outside the vehicle, if the charging door is not open, press on the center edge of the charging door.
The location of the charging door varies from vehicle to vehicle, as well as where to press on the lid to open it.
If you are at a DC CHARGE station, remove the secondary charging inlet cover.
Make sure there is not any dust or debris inside the charging connector or the charging inlet.
Plug the charger into the charging inlet until you hear a click.
If equipped, you can monitor the charge level via the gauge that’s inside the charging door.
A High Voltage Indicator Light on top of the instrument panel is also illuminated while the vehicle is charging.
When the high voltage battery is fully charged, the indicator light turns off.
When charging is complete, make sure the doors are unlocked, then remove the charging connector while pressing the release button.
For DC charging, replace the charging inlet cover … and close the charging door.
That’s it - you’re done!
Select Kia Evs feature a LOCKING CHARGING CABLE feature to help prevent charging cable theft.
Here’s how it works:
From the infotainment system screen, select SETUP…
then the EV button…
and CHARGING CONNECTOR LOCKING MODE.
Then select your preferred mode:
ALWAYS MODE means the connector stays locked until the doors are unlocked by the driver.
If you unlock the doors and DO NOT disconnect the charging cable within 15 seconds, then the connector will automatically relock.
LOCK WHILE CHARGING MODE will unlock when charging is complete. This is useful at public charging stations, as it allows others to use the charger once your charging is complete.
And DO NOT LOCK MODE leaves the connector unlocked at all times.
