That inhale before the “okay”. I could *feel* the air whoosh through her lungs as her entire life thus far flashed before her and she tried to find her words, with her 1st grade education and no experience of ever speaking alone with another person, to explain to the officer the most pertinent information and have him believe her, and rescue them. I could feel her desperation, like she wanted to grab him and scream “we’re dying, you have to come, right now” but she still had the presence of mind to understand that she needed to come across as sensical if they were to have any chance. It was their only shot, and everything relied on her delivery of those first few lines. She wanted to scream, but she needed to be measured. In the right hands, with the adult children involved (and paid) every step of the way if they wanted to be, this could make the most phenomenal scene in the most incredible movie. But, it would need to be in the hands of someone who, just as she was in this moment, was measured, careful, balanced, and wouldn’t exploit, sensationalise or dramatise something which is already so equally horrifying and profound. My love to each of them, and I wish them every success, happiness and peace in this world.
Well said! There's a lady that does a podcast "10- to Life" rehashing crimes. She did an excellent evaluation of Jordans encounter with Deputy Colace, she breaks down moments, breaks down Jordans communication skills, lack there of the desperate search by Jordan for the correct words to say, sometimes unable to find the very words she wanted.

There's something in the way she sighs when he asks _"what's going on?"_ that really resonates for some reason. Because where the hell do you start? God bless her. I hope they're all happy
The officer was skeptical because it’s almost too horrifying to believe but it’s his job to follow up and investigate so I’m glad he did. I feel he probably still would have done the welfare check in the home even if she didn’t have pictures. You can tell he was thinking she might be having a mental episode though
@@useyourbrain6937 that’s why i get a little uneasy about people saying “god bless her for saving her children”. God allowed her and her siblings to get abused and tortured. The fact one of them was my age, 29, just shows they’ve been doing this since they began popping out children.
Actually the oldest sibling Jennifer helped organize the escape. She had previously tried to escape and used her experience to prepare her younger sister for the endeavor, including the phone. But the bravery of Jordan is undeniable.
I hope she and the rest of her siblings gets to have an education after all, whatever that takes for her to feel safe in whatever environment, but it would be a good stepping stone to finally begin her life; even basic education. Treating them purely as victims and perpetuating their experiences isnt going to bring them up, therapy is great but giving them opportunities to experience the normal intricacies of daily life will be a huge boon to their recovery. 29 years old and never been outside is basically unfathomable.

Sad to say after that HORRIFIC SITUATION they were victimized again by a few foster families that the children were placed with..Sad that after there whole life being tortured they had to endure that again..It was on a short with Diane Sawyer that Jordan stated this. How horrible and over 600,000 was raised for these kids and at 1st didn't get not 1 dime of that money, the Abusing foster parents did. Again they were not fed, bathed or bought new clothes.. Again more ABUSE!!! Not all of the money was blown but it took a team of lawyers to get all of that money raised to the children.. THE SYSTEM FAILED THESE POOR CHILDREN..

poor girl.. she doesn't even understand the word medication... it's like they live in a dungeon for ages but it's real life not from a novel..
"what's medication?" Imagine how shocking it would be for the cop to hear that. Really a testament of how sheltered she truly was from the outside world :/
Props to those cops and especially the girl for doing something that brave. From her view, she risked everything by escaping.
Smell of air made her appreciate life. While people complaining how life is tough
It’s all about perspective. If you’ve never crawled through the murky dark tunnel, you will never know it existed.
Just because someone hasn't gone through that experience doesn't mean life _isn't_ tough lmao 😂
By the time the totalitarian state gets through with us no one will know what a trip to the park is like
lmao wdym give her time to get into real world and she'll also complain how life can be tough, but that won't stop people from dreaming and going through life.
She's wise beyond her education.
Well put
@@lp5920 thanks for the recommendation, I’ll check that out, cheers.
My sincerest prayers to this young lady and all her siblings.
Wow at 17 years old, she had never been outside by herself, and she also didn’t know what medication was!!!! Damn that just comes to show how’s they were really isolated and mentally underdeveloped! It’s truly heartbreaking💔 even tho she was 17, she clearly had the mentality of a little child…she truly didn’t know much about anything😭 but she was still able to make it out and break free.
my heart dropped when she got confused abt medication, so upsetting to see how mentally neglected she was.
I can see why the cop didn't believe her. No one just doesn't know what medication is.
@@rosesweetcharlotte right.
@@rosesweetcharlotte my thoughts exactly
She is what real strength is. At the very top.
When she said “what’s medication” it broke me. The fact that some of these children weren’t even allowed to get an education by there parents is disgusting
Saw her other conversation with the cop, aside from medication, she doesn’t also know what ‘injuries’ is. So sad for them..

The "thing 1 thing 2" shirts bring a really cruel sense of irony.
It de-humanizes them.
25 years just isn’t enough.
They won't live long enough to serve it all.
Child abusers do not fair well
Yah thos parents if you can call them that probably did a life’s year of damage they she get the same
Given that the eldest child had been held in that hell for 23 years, a 25 year sentence is far from enough.
the woman died in prison already
@Raven Queen child abusers get killed in prison.
There's something in the way she sighs when he asks _"what's going on?"_ that really resonates for some reason. Because where the hell do you start? God bless her. I hope they're all happy
That girl is really brave she saved her siblings but it's also sad that the officer probably wouldn't have believed her without proof
It will always amaze me how something so foul could go unnoticed for so long prayers to the victims🙏🏾
The officer was skeptical because it’s almost too horrifying to believe but it’s his job to follow up and investigate so I’m glad he did. I feel he probably still would have done the welfare check in the home even if she didn’t have pictures. You can tell he was thinking she might be having a mental episode though
Yes she Lowkey acted like she didn’t take her medication for mental illness or she was on drugs or something. But glad everything worked out
This young lady along with her siblings have to have the purest soul! Best wishes to them
How can parents do that to their children? It’s so cruel.
A. Religious extremism
B. Sexual perversion
C. Psychological dysfunction
D. All of the above
According to one of the victims, the parents used biblical passages to justify their actions
@@anthonylong9067 religion is evil
@@useyourbrain6937 that’s why i get a little uneasy about people saying “god bless her for saving her children”. God allowed her and her siblings to get abused and tortured. The fact one of them was my age, 29, just shows they’ve been doing this since they began popping out children.
@@anthonylong9067 I don't see "God" as a conscious entity, more of a force of nature.
Jordan Turpin is the real matriarch of that family. She's the only one who showed any motherly care towards those kids at all.
Actually the oldest sibling Jennifer helped organize the escape. She had previously tried to escape and used her experience to prepare her younger sister for the endeavor, including the phone. But the bravery of Jordan is undeniable.
The judge should have addedd all the children's ages collectively and that be the jail time the parents get
I hope she and the rest of her siblings gets to have an education after all, whatever that takes for her to feel safe in whatever environment, but it would be a good stepping stone to finally begin her life; even basic education. Treating them purely as victims and perpetuating their experiences isnt going to bring them up, therapy is great but giving them opportunities to experience the normal intricacies of daily life will be a huge boon to their recovery. 29 years old and never been outside is basically unfathomable.
That’s sad that the officer immediately asked if she was taking medication. Poor girl if she had not had proof they would have given her right back to the monsters with no investigation.
Nah
Well, she was clearly having physical distress, she's a teen runaway, it's a legit question considering her anxiety & distress behavior!
She’s brave just imagine how long this has been going on for smh I feel so bad for them
That deputy is amazing
if she didnt show picture he probably wouldnt believe her
Ikr 😞
...escort her home and would probably believe the parents more than her...
The fact that the officer was skeptical when jordan was talking was worrying. Imagine if the officer didnt buy her story and just brought her back to home. Wether someone is telling the truth or not, the police should check the house

That'd be awful
That’s so shameful that the cop don’t take action immediately. Precious time is being lost and to go that far to have to show proof so the cop could believe her
yeah, I agree... but he must have seen many teen lying... even so, he should verify, even without pictures
I can’t believe the police… how hard she had to plead her case makes me sick! I’ve felt it before… why won’t they hear it???
You must remain skeptical when faced with hordes of liars daily. Trust but verify is the best policy when dealing with strangers.
when your job is mostly dealing with liars you just get skeptical
Yea, care to guess what percentage of teenage runaways "story tell" about parents? It's most!! And the level of their exaggeration??? I mean, in REAL TIME, who would think any different when Jordan told Colace that her sisters got chained up for stealing mothers food?
I get that but let's just agree police has no job dealing with abused kids they never know what to do
@@kashmirigirl22 Evidently they knew what to do this time! You're basing your perception of what to do using "hindsight bias" (look up definition) They "never know" what to do??? Is that a never, ever, ever & another never ever?
Wow. 25 years isn't enough
Well, hope thier parents enjoy prison when the other prisoners find out what they did to their own kids.. It's going to be a fun time for them..
Look how much her face has filled out in a beautiful healthy way because she is finally able to have proper food & nutrition each day. I'm so proud of you Jordan.
That all brought me to tears.
The cop was ignorant, only because she showed the picture - he had to do something... otherwise he would just give her back to her parents... he asked her if she is on medication, meaning he assumed right away that she is crazy...
Absolutely not. He asked if she had any photos on her phone. She said yes and showed him her siblings chained up. He called backup and they got inside. It helps to learn the story before making snide comments.
That looked like a heavily populated area. Consider neighbors, utility workers, mail carriers, solicitors, etc. All of the people over the years that must have had an opportunity to notice something weird happening there. How do these nuts fly under the radar for so long?
They actually were almost discovered earlier. One of the older sisters escaped, but was returned by neighbors who didn’t believe her
Sad to say after that HORRIFIC SITUATION they were victimized again by a few foster families that the children were placed with..Sad that after there whole life being tortured they had to endure that again..It was on a short with Diane Sawyer that Jordan stated this.
Jordan, you were so, so brave. As a woman I couldn’t be more proud of you. YOU stopped those monsters abusing your siblings. I can’t begin to imagine how it felt to talk to the police officer 💜🤍💚
My heart cracked & my jaw dropped when she said "What's medication?"
OMG...
"How could heaven be better than this?" 😍
Wow, brave young woman! All the best for her and her siblings!!
Smh if you don’t feed your kids why have them ? So sick of a parents to so such things and very happy she’s courageous to tell cops about it .
Better life for her and her siblings
@@tripac3392 you may want to get therapy. I come from a family of 13. 11 kids and we’ve never done or went through anything remotely close to what you stated. That is not normal or ok, even with big families.
Sucks how people like this can have kids, and loving people that would make great parents struggle with fertility
@@tripac3392 that's sad... I agree with Tijuana, you should be in therapy. You're clearly had been brainwashed by your parents. By no means what your parents did is okay at all.. If they know that they couldn't afford some food on the table for the children, then they should know to at least afford a cheap rubber beforehand to prevent unplanned pregnancy so no children would starve.
TMS rofl, these trash parents weren't "poor". What "poor" family you know that can take a family trip to Las Vegas? Being poor is no excuse to abuse a child, if you can't feed them don't have them.
@ poor people do exist but trying to imply that it is normal for big families to chain their fridges is incorrect. Have a good day!
To smell the air, How could heaven be better than this? Made me realize how much we take life for granted. Bless her beautiful heart❤️
She’s such a brave and beautiful young lady. I just finished the 2020 episode on this case, it’s really sad to see how the californian government screwed up the childrens funds/money given to them by the public. The kids were cheated out of a lot of money by greedy politicians.
"What is medication?" Heart breaks
Poor babies all of them. Such horrendous suffering they all injured. It’s incomprehensible.
The fact that this happened in the USA or anywhere really shocks me
I just love that she felt "this is wrong, I need to do something to help my siblings" even though this is all she has known
Imagine the ones we don't find
What a real hero looks like . Not a punk with a rifle
So heartbreaking when she asked what medication is!
imagine not even knowing what medicine is, gosh these poor kids bro. now i can’t even complain about my life.
"Do you take any medication?"
"What's medication?"
Parents did a good job alienating them from the world.
Only 25? I would have done a life sentence.
The astonishing bravery of this girl! I just can't imagine how scary this situation was. May God bless her and her siblings and may they have wonderful lives.
Disappointed that the cop was skeptical until Jordan showed him pictures. Shouldn’t need pictures to believe what she’s saying. Just go and find out.
Life without parole ASAP💯💯
He was skeptical-
Doesn't matter if your skeptical! What kid comes up with a story of her and her 14 singer being chained up and started and beat???? Even if it was fake you should still look into it. It's an insane story, so insane it's worth checking. Imagine if he had just said she was making it up and that was bad?
No one said he wasn't going to look into it.
Also what kind of kid does that? The kind on drugs, having a mental episode or who wants a swat type raid on a certain premisis. People & kids lie all the time & even those telling 'the truth' aren't always right.
That being said the officer did the right thing investigating further & not just presuming it was a temporary insanity type situation.
Schools and social services should be more alert for cases like this. They should follow up on kids who have no turned up in schools for years and disappeared all of a sudden.
I was in prison for 4 years. When I came back home this was a shocker because I really lived 2 houses down from them. They seemed very nice people. You really think you know people.
Such courage! Salute to you Jordan for being brave. You only didn't save yourself but your siblings too.
Such a beautiful strong young woman,an inspiration to girls
