I had no idea these blades were double sided. You Sir, have displayed the epitome of the RUclips spirit by this very simple yet to the point how to video. I am a jack of all trades, master of none; now I am of one.
Nicked a buried nail this morning, couldn't locate the manual in a hurry but you have come to the rescue - thank you. Clear and concise so I'll be up and running in no time. Whew! Thanks again from a grateful Kiwi.
Thanks Phil. I am not super experienced in the world of video and there are definitely room for improvements but I am glad the video was able to help. Keep on planing!
Excellent video. Not sure if your model is same as mine DX734, but it should come equipped with a blade lock on the right hand side (from the back view) where you can push it down and prevent the blade from rotating while you change your blades. It’s a silver little hook that you push forward to catch it and then push down to release it.
Tried it a few weeks back and couldn't crack some of the screws loose. Stripped one of the heads before giving up. Need to contact Dewalt. What a pain in the neck.
Thats unfortunate and I feel for you. One thing I've done on new machines before use is loosen bolts or nuts before powering on so they have been removed at least once. I wish you good lucks getting it repaired.
I’m not sure you still check these messages, but I just put a new set in mine, it’s grabbing the wood as I make the pass. Is there a certain way these go in?I put the new blades back in just the way I took the old ones out.
I have done something very silly I removed the old knives to replace but my DW733 is different to yours my question is what direction do i install the new knives I did not pay attention when removing thanks
I bought this planer about 6 months ago and now it's time to change the blades. I followed your excellent video directions but I cannot loosen any of the screws holding down the blades. I'm going to try using a ratchet for more torque. Any suggestions?
Just bought one and this was very helpful to know for the future. I assume that since it has the alignment "dimples" that there is really no blade height adjustment to be done, correct? I assume that's why the blades are disposable after you use both sides, right?
Thanks. That's my understanding, is that because of the alignment dimples there are no adjustments. Set, screw in, and go. Flip, or replace when needed.
Mine gets heavy use and I went about 7 months before my first change. You will start to notice that the blades aren't creating a glass surface any more. You may also notice that the blades are creating a few lines from damaged areas of the blades. I like my boards almost looking like they were hand planed. The sharper they are the less hand work for me. I know some people that get a year or a few years bc their use isn't as great.
Mine was getting too hot, and turning itself off. Was acting like it was difficult to plane even soft pine boards when I was just lowering them 1/4 turn at once.
You likely have the blade lock on. It’s a silver looking hook on the right hand side. It’s actually very useful so that the blade doesn’t rotate while you’re taking the torx bolts out.
Bruce, I have not encountered a vibration before. I would remove all the blades and make sure there was no debris under them. Reset the blade and make sure all screws go back without resistance. Boot up and try again. My guess would be that one of the blades is not sitting properly.

Absolutely brilliant video. I ordered new blades because I didn’t know they were two sided! Great video. Thank you very much.
I held off doing this for so long... Ugh. It was so simple. Thanks man!
Thank you!!!! For showing me how and the info that the blades were double sided.

Thank you for this! Super helpful to do it in real time. I flipped mine right along with you. Really appreciate the help!
Thank you! Great video...clear straightforward instructions.
Thanks for this. Always trying to figure out how to re-level the whole cutting head on the rails
Very nice video. Short and to the point. I have this Planer in my Cart at Lowes. Your video made the decision a lot easier. Thank you.
Thank you for the teaching. You are a good teacher.
Got the DW734 today. Went through your guidance here for a dry run. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks bud. Enjoy the new toy.

And here I was wondering why my blades weren't rotating. Gonna have to check that out. Thank you!
Came here for the video as a refresh and your comment came through clutch when we couldn’t rotate it 😂🙌🏻
THANKS FOR THAT TIP! MINE WAS LOCKED TOO LOL
Great video. Appropriate detail yet on point. You've got a knack for this! Thank you. My friend.
Great video and your step by step procedure was very well done!! Thanks!
As a blade changer, your top 👍
As a counter, you need to practice, you counted 7 bolts twice and you get 8 bolts.
Thank’s for posting.
Thanks bud. Wasn't used to shooting videos and no much of a public speaker. Hopefully my videos will improve with time.

As this one is good. Once improved the others will be very good. 👍👍
Great video man, super simple and detailed, great work!
Thanks for watching bud.
Fantastic video. Exactly what I needed. Muchly appreciated!!!!

Very good clear concise video.

Great video! nice job, I'm getting to work on it now!
Thanks bud. Glad you enjoyed it. Hope it helped.
Thank you. You made it really easy.

What is the brand of that bib you have? I love it!
Thanks for your help great video

Very helpful! Thank you
You did one of three blades. Once the firat one is done do i turn it to access the other two. If so will the one i did come loose?

Thank you very much 👍👊👍
There is no way those screws were that easy to break loose. I cannot get mine to break loose. Any suggestions?

@@canonshotpro Thanks Chris!
Thank you for this video
Thanks John your very welcome.
How do you know when your blades start getting dull? I just bought this planer and used it a ton!

Thank you, hopefully it'll stop bogging down now
Thank you SIR!!
Why didn’t you show flipping all 3 blades? I can’t find a video of switching all 3 anywhere lol
Well done!
Thanks a bunch Kyle!
I think there's a head lock right on the side. At least my older DeWalt one did.
Awesome video thank you!
Thanks so much Garret! We're just getting started and working out our audio issues but thanks for watching.
Wait, I have to unplug it? :) Awesome video.
Nah
I did the first blade on mine but I can't get the motor to turn to access the next one. Any ideas?

@@katievitale168 yes I did. I figured that out but thank you.
I just changed my blades and now I have bad viberation - so bad that I had to shut it down. Where do I start to look for the problem?

I count 8 bolts?
Just raise your head up and don't from bottom much easier
Extremely sharp is not enough for me 😂. This blade sliced half my skin just by gracing me. It is insanely sharp. Great video though
Why are screws so fucking tight
Thanks for the video!
Very welcome Mr. 🥒
