    This deserves more views, it's better, more complete and concise than the other vifdeos up here for blade replacement.

    Thanks so much for showing how to rotate the blades! I figured out the rest of the process myself, but couldn't figure out how to get to the blades underneath the first one. Great work! Thank you.

    Great video. One note to be aware of - the adjacent blade needs to be avoided. While cleaning the base of my blade beds I noticed the rag I was using had deep cuts. Had my flesh gotten there - - - your thumb knows the results.

    Thanks for the video! Just wondering if there is a torque spec for the screws that hold the blades?

    • @NorthwestCraftsman
      @NorthwestCraftsman  Год назад

      Hey Dave, great question. There is no spec according to the manual (page 10 - linked below). I’ve always gone by “pretty snug”
      If you’d like one, I know the Byrd Shelix Cutters are tightened to about 45inlbs which should be about right for the OEM fasteners.

    I am really new to planers and joiners. I have found you make things easy to understand and do. IJust have one question, do the blades need to be torqued or just firm even hand pressure on the wrench? on an electric driver just a lower setting? I have the same planer as you. Thanks for any help you can send my way.

    • @NorthwestCraftsman
      @NorthwestCraftsman  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hey! I’m so happy to hear you find my videos helpful! It’s funny you ask that. Dewalt’s Manual for the 735 (page 10 bottom left) only says “tight sufficiently” 😂 I’ve found that, using the provided wrench, if I put it on the firm side of tight, I haven’t had any issues. It shouldn’t “pop” when loosening it. I’d also be careful with a driver because it’s easy to cross thread 😊
      Thanks for the great question! Good to have you around!

I retired 17 yrs ago and just recently purchased the equipment to star doing honey do lists. Most equipment I can figure out but the one I have but haven’t used yet is the router. I bought the Bosch kit that comes with a plunge adapter for a table model. I bought the Bosch table and some basic bits. I may have questions in regards the router s I start playing with it.

    Terrific video with excellent presentation! 2 Qs. First I checked my blades and can now run my finger over them without getting cut. Is that a good indicator for time to replace? If I’m getting a line down the middle as you spoke about, and it’s due to a single damaged blade, is it worth replacing that one or is it more efficient to just replace them all, price aside?

    • @NorthwestCraftsman
      @NorthwestCraftsman  4 месяца назад

      Hey Mitch! Glad you liked the video!
      To your first question, you’re a braver man than I am 😂 I’ve sliced myself too many times to try that. I’d say yes, it’s probably time for rotation or replacement if they’re that dull.
      To your second question, if you replace/rotate them it won’t matter but in the future, you can shift the blades in their slots, one full left, one full right, and leave one centered which should wipe out some of those stripes 👌 after that, rotate, after that, replace.

    I need to replace my knives on my Dewalt DW735. All was going well until i tried to remove the screws holding the knives. They are so tight I cant get them out. Any ideas on what i can do? Thanks in advance. Bill

    • @NorthwestCraftsman
      @NorthwestCraftsman  5 месяцев назад

      Hey Bill! Sorry to hear you’re having trouble, that’s a tricky one. Mine were pretty tight as well, to the point I was worried about stripping them out. If you have another T-25 (I believe that’s the right size) that has more leverage, try one of those. Otherwise some penetrating oil may help loosen them up.

    The piece that goes on top of the blade has two dimples should the dimple face the blade or should it face up ?

    • @NorthwestCraftsman

      I believe it’s dimple facing upwards (bulges up) but would need to check mine in the shop to be sure.

    Your beginners planer and jointer picks?

    • @NorthwestCraftsman
      @NorthwestCraftsman  Год назад

      Great question!
      Planer: Dewalt 735
      Jointer: More complicated. I’ll explain.
      The DW735 is my choice for the planer with no hesitation. It’s a professional quality planer at about $600. It was actually my first power tool purchase outside a drill. I do not regret this decision at all.
      For a jointer, it’s more complicated because there are so many way to get around it. A jointer was the last tool I purchased because of this. For faces, you can make a jointing sled and for edges, if you have a table saw, you can use that. It really depends on what tools you have, your budget, the types of projects you do, and space. If you’d like, I’d be open to talking in more detail about what you have and what options you have.

    Can we sharpen the blades of this planner? Or Every time we will have to change?

    • @NorthwestCraftsman
      @NorthwestCraftsman  Год назад

      I think it’s possible to sharpen them. They’re just HSS. But you’d want a jig. You can get non Dewalt replacements though for like $30 and they’re double sided so for me it was always worth buying new ones.

    • @NorthwestCraftsman
      @NorthwestCraftsman  Год назад

      Great question! I’ve heard they can be but I’ve also heard it’s not worth the hassle. If you had a jig, or one of those high accuracy sharpening setups (the ones that clamp to the edge of a table) maybe. But at $50 a set, I’ve just opted to replace. I have kept the old ones just in case though 😂
