  • For those of us who collect homemade sanding blocks or need to sand around corners and curves, may I present to you this homemade bow sander.
    This bow sander is great for tight, curved places and works from both top and bottom.
    Maybe your great grandchildren will look at yours someday and ask, “What was that thing for anyway?
    Used tools:
    -Woodthreading Kit, 1" x 6 TPI: amzn.to/2xWZgSB
    -Riffler Rasp: amzn.to/2xnT5Km
    Music: goo.gl/coj9Cs

      Unless you have a more Spartan outlook and simply focus on function vs form. In that case, beautification beyond ease of use and comfort in the hand becomes a waste of time.
      Sorry for the tangent here, but it's like how knife makers take the blade to a mirror polish and the handles down to a 1,200 grit finish with machinist perfect plunge lines, on a knife that's expected to be exposed to the rigours of the out-of-doors no less, and use that as justification for charging $200 or more; when 200 grit on the blade and 180 on the handle would suffice. Really, an oiled 180 grit finish gives a lot better grip than 1,200 grit and 200 grit holds oil better than a micron finish and won't make you paranoid of scratching it like it will if shows your reflection. if one plunge line is 1/32 to 1/16 inch too far forward or back from the other really affect how it cuts or sharpens? You can get a knife that functions just as well as a $200 piece for $70 from Ontario Knife Company or the like.
      In short, cosmetics are overrated.

      Jason Gardner you've never seen a "sand saw" because it is a nice project and discussion piece that unfortunately is not that useful to a woodworker. My son-in-law built me something similar for Christmas many years ago, put his heart and soul into it so of course I have to keep it on display in the shop and make sure it looks well used when he pops in LOL - But honestly holding a piece of 120 grit 1.5" wide 20" long emery cloth in both hands does a better job, faster, with far more control. If I was into building my own hand tools I'd build this only after I built all the planes and spokeshaves, f-clamps, handscrews, hand crafted tenon saw , more tablesaw and router jigs, another bench, etc that I needed. :-).

    • @allthings2allmen
      @allthings2allmen 7 лет назад

      I have a feeling this is your opinion sir, & I would like to say, I think it is in the way that one uses it.
      I have a set of TIOGA frame stands that I stopped using on my freestyle bmx, because they were a brainchild of the industry for freestyle bmx, but the simpler axle pegs were superior, even though they were a simpler design. The frame stands were well made, very strong, i still have them & I will find a good use for them. They are/were definitely not a waste of time, but they did not serve best in their original intent. I do not call them a novelty.
      It's my perception here that this tool has far more merit!
      You just have to know when to use the right tool & that is the beauty of what this fella has produced!
      Definitely not a dust collector novelty.
      +Mikhandmaker keep up the good work!

      Mikhandmaker Tú canal estará todavía en activo y con millones de suscriptores cuando tus nietos cojan su primer móvil,y estarán superorgullosos de su abuelo. Se nota el amor por la carpinteria en los videos. Sigue así. Mi recomendación la tienes para todos mis amigos manitas y profesionales del sector.
