Can we please stop saying Poles was loyal to Eberflus? He wanted to get rid of Flus after Patriots game AND was not allowed per George McCaskey. Flus was always McCaskeys' guy. Why do you think their "meeting", to fire Flus, took 4.5 hours to finally agree to it? Ownership once again has interfered in football matters and dont know sh!t about football. McCaskeys are the same as Woody Johnson (from Jets).
You need to stop that. Ownership gave him 3 names to choose from, he chose Flus. Even after Flus was proven terrible, Poles still went to bat for Flus. I doubt Poles wanted to fire Flus, I doubt Poles had a choice in firing Flus.
I’m gonna assume 2 things - McCaskey’s want Kevin Warren to fill their spot in football decisions (final say stuff and direction of team) - Poles still handles GM responsibilities, just with an active higher up over his shoulder
nailed it ! and that’s why no serious proven head coach will come here … Good head coaches will only go to places here they get the FULL support of ownership even when things are bad .
Yes Poles was down today but I think it is nothing. When you are the reason that for the only time franchise history to fired a head coach in the manner of how it was done, Poles is exhausted. Possibly didn’t sleep well all weekend. Warren doesn’t have that stress so his energy is high. I can only imagine how hard he had to work to get Flus gone even with the connection for 2.5 seasons. With ownership dragging their feet, Poles feel like crap in how he fired Flus after a press conference. Poles showed he was human today. Warren showed he was a business man.
You don't bring emotions to a business setting. Emotions have no place in business, because of emotions Bears had to endure Flus for longer than they should've.
George McCaskey is in charge … he has final say in executive decisions 💯 I really enjoy seeing your energy and passion for the Bears 🐻 Reality is the McCaskey’s have ran a dysfunctional organization for going on 50 years . Understand the reality of this organization…. Discuss the McCaskeys by Name 🎯
Actually, McCaskey took a step back after the hiring of Warren. The McCaskey's Ted Phillips with their special advisor... did the initial coaches' interviews. Then they hired Poles and gave him a short list and told him that Eberflus was #1 candidate and to di his final interview. I'm hoping they stay hands off on this move.
It's a team game in the Front Office. Key word was random. He said him and Poles will work as a random. Poles has nothing to do with Eberfluses coaching call. I only hated when he took Swift over Jacobs.
Pump the brakes on Brown a bit. Brown has 5 games to show he can do the job. A minimum of 3 wins is required to get an interview for next season. 4 wins makes him the front runner. 5 wins gets him the job. But, first he has to get the offense performing in all 4 quarters. First game up is very winnable.
@chrisprovenzano - Thomas Brown has clearly been a positive influence on the offense. Brown had no part in any of the last 3 losses. Santos had blocked kicks in consecutive games. DeAndre Carter allowed a punt to hit him, in addition to the blocked kick to give the game to Minnesota. Against Detroit, Cole Kmet had 2 crucial unnecessary penalties. Teven Jenkins had a bad penalty and the refs gave Detroit a TD with their horsecollar call on Kyler Gordon. Caleb Williams missed a wide open D.J. Moore with 44 seconds left and we all saw the time management end. DC Eric Washington plays a HUGE role on Thomas Brown's future. If the defense improves with Washington calling plays, it will greatly help Thomas Brown. I would imagine Eric Washington's defense will be more aggressive. Playcalling is not something to take lightly. There is no guarantee that Eric Washington will succeed as a defensive playcaller. I hope he does.
Poles confidence has taken a hammering over this, he’s definitely had his wings clipped. The (dumb) board will be embarrassed they had to fire the HC in season. Poles takes responsibility for that, he’s the one who supported Flus in the off-season. He will have been told ‘if you keep Flus you have to keep him all season’ and he kept him. Poles will be back. Thomas Brown is the man already in place
George is in charge, completely. He is the only common denominator the last 3 coaches. How else could the same thing keep happening without it being george completely in charge?
Poles looks like he drafted a franchise QB? That hadn’t happened in my 71 years. He’ll get this coach hire right. Warren doesn’t impress me at all, what has he done right?
Thomas Brown giving off good HC vibes and I'm excited to see how we finish down the stretch. He commands the room and has a plan as the leader- I've got a good feeling about him. Warren made it clear Poles has the final say, but Warren will be involved in the process. That's the way it should be.
The President/CEO is the one who hires the GM so of course Warren would have final say but Warren is a legal guy and does not have scouting/player personnel experience which is why he has Poles.
My biggest concern is whether the Bears leadership is capable of judging intelligence and leadership. Thomas Brown seems to possess both traits and has gotten Caleb going. I would interview Ben Johnson, Shanahan if he’s available and Mike Vrabel and that’s it
I think it will be a joint decision. If there is a disagreement, then they will discuss the pros and cons of each choice. Warren has more experience with selecting coaches so yes he will give his input.
Brown continues to nail pressers, I want to see how he schemes up and handles entire team for longer than 4 games before I'd pass up on going hard for someone like Shannahan.
I really think, his wings (Poles)have been clipped. And because of it, he is the poster, GM but the decision-making has been stripped. And Poles knows it. But gotta be thankful he still has a job
Of course, Warren is in charge. He's Pole boss. Why is this even a topic? Poles is the guy who will find the coach and vet some of the options. It's like when a company hires someone: An assistant manager vets the applicants, and the General Manager makes the final call.
He's fucked imagine ted Phillips sitting in on your head coach interview, that's what he's about to deal with. Basically living the life of every gm before him
@stevekaufmann8109 I'll trust Kevin Warren talking to HC candidates over Ted Phillips any day. I get it, he's a businessman albeit sports business. But I feel better about him than I did Ted Phillips, who was literally a glorified accountant
Honestly based off of what was said by Kevin Warren I think he will be safe and hire Mike Vrabel since he has done being a HC before. Especially since all past coaches minus John Fox have been just Coordinators that haven’t been HC before. And proven they couldn’t do/handle it, my bet is that it’s gonna be Vrabel just cause he has done it before wether we like it or not.

Overly loyal Poles was for Eberflus? Poles started 1/25/22 Eberflus 1/27/22. I actually think Eberflus was a McCaskey pick and Poles only got the job by agreeing to it for a 3yr contract which they convinced George after 2.5 to move on. This HC search is truly the first by this front office.

The Bears have always had a convoluted organizational structure. You need a CEO type business person in charge of the business, and a football person in charge of the football team. It’s not that complicated, but they always screw it up. This makes their GM job less desirable, and they don’t end up with the best possible GM. I’m not saying Poles is bad, but the Mckaskey’s need to sell the team.
Compared to Eberflus, anyones gona look impressive. Of course the players are naturally going to rally around him, and we have a talented roster. But it’s just too risky of a move. Is this his staff? Would he even be allowed to build his own staff? Would they waldron him and to certain coordinators? Too many unknowns and way too risky and i do not trust this franchise’s ability to make it work. Especially given how it does seem like this is the narrative being pushed like it’s what someone inside of halas hall wants and is feeding out to guys like SearSTower on x. I want nothing to do w it. I feel better knowing Warren is finally making his presence felt on the quality control side of things
I’m ngl, think you’re going a bit too hard on Ryan Poles here with the energy. He knew he was going to get flamed, and legit 2 questions in, he was being asked if he was able to find the right guy after so many hiring failures. Who is supposed to be all up and happy after trying to make the last one work?
I think the reason for the long meeting was Warren putting both McCaskey & Poles in their place. Poles still makes the calls but Warren will be holding him accountable & he's had his one mistake already. If Warren is the right guy this could workout. If he's more power trip ego, its a cluster 🤯

I liked the video, but this particular take, I have to admit. I think you are really reaching, I don’t agree with you on this but I see why you could see it that way. But maybe the angst of the fan base can no longer take it out on Flus, and needs someone else to chew on and poke at. Should have fired Poles so you could have reset management with a new coach, which of these candidates will want to come here knowing the GM could be fired after one bad season.
