#1 down the line from either side, low, top spin
#2 slice low cross court, follow in
#3 drop shot, lose point, curse, go back to # 1 or 2

I don't play much singles, but my success rate was transformed when I focused on disguising my passing shots. There's usually a way to use your feet to set up for one direction and then switch to the opposite side if you see your opponent starting to anticipate the shot direction. Maybe it's successful for me because I'm an older player whose opponents usually don't have the athleticism to cover all (or even 75%) of the court. Also, recognizing that there's a "chain-of-events" process, e.g. starting with a deep topspin serve to the body that requires a bit of extra footwork from the opponent, slowing up their approach to the net and opening up the angles a bit. At that point, it doesn't need much power - just a bit of accuracy to stroke the ball into the gap.

I think the hardest passing shot for me is the down the line backhand. When I can get it in, it’s very effective

Thanks for this video, 99% of pickleball strategy tips are focused on doubles but I play singles more often so it’s interesting to see the differences.
I like that it’s mostly the same but you just have to be more physical in the kitchen but you can be more flexible with passing shots.

Just starting pickle ball - I’m 60 and a decent wheelchair tennis player. I used to play table tennis pretty well decades ago - pickle ball is great for me as the balls and bat are lighter than tennis so easier on my hand and shoulder. I can move mostly well enough standing for doubles but we often end up two against one and the singles end is tough! I can really whizz a down the line pass and can mega side spin like table tennis. Pickleball is great for me!!
By the way the wheelchair top spin backhand - reverse backhand - works really well for pickleball - give it a try… I’m enjoying your content - thanks.

I played singles this morning and realized I am much better at the angled passing shot than the down the line. I need to get more pace on my down the line shot, especially down the line backhand (working on it but it’s not there yet), but I tend to play with people who hang out at the baseline longer than they should (I think it’s a habit they developed in tennis) so the short angled shot, with or without pace, can get them sometimes if they aren’t that fast.

Best singles video out there! Thank you. One question-when I rush to the net, I always seem to get passed. I am small so I can’t reach that far to each side. How can I tell if I should over a little to one side or another to get to their shots? When I am in the middle I can’t seem to reach their shots.

I keep getting killed playing singles. Opponents just me around the court at will. Then I get discouraged and lose confidence, and the game's over pretty quickly. This video should help, hopefully.

What's the difference between the short angle pass and doubles-style drop shot? Seems like you're hitting them both low into the kitchen corner.

My down the line backhand always swings wide - especially when the opponent is at the net... Maybe I am going for smaller margins. Any tips to rectify it ?

wish he would have covered lobbing in singles

    • @bobbyknight9709
      @bobbyknight9709 15 дней назад

Lobbing is a bad strategy unless it’s very low level singles where opponents have poor mobility and power to hit strong overheads. The only time lobs payoff is to bail you out if it’s a shot on the move and you’re way out of position.

weird question but if you swing a bat or golf club are you left or righty? i think i can tell by ur backhand that u are a lefty swinger

If your opponent is already up at the kitchen line, do you ever use an offensive lob?

change of pace by hitting it real hard directly at your opponent's right hip (if he's right handed), and only if used sparingly, and as a surprise
