  • Why I DON'T Follow Popular Restrictive Diets!! Here is our Sexification 2021 update video for week #5 that was supposed to post last Friday 9/17!! Every day, people ask my thoughts or recommend that I do one or more of the popular restrictive diets available today, such as keto, paleo, the carnivore diet, or intermittent fasting where you can only eat during certain hours of the day. In this video, I answer why I don't and will never follow any restrictive diets, since I would never want to follow them forever (long-term), and temporary change almost always creates temporary results, a.k.a. "yo-yo dieting." Then I show off how week #5 went. I hope you all find this video informative and look forward to reading the comments. Thanks everyone for watching and all support!! Hey everyone thanks for watching this video and BIG thanks to everybody who has watched most of the Sexification 2021 series!! People ask me my thoughts on keto, fasting, and other popular restrictive diets, so I wanted to address my response again during this series. I covered this topic during my 2020 series. Randy, big fan of yours. I'm going though my sexafication change myself. I was weigh 283 pounds in last month, now today, I lost 12 pounds to 271. My goal weight is about 215. I have been eating healthy and I also juice fruits and vegetables as well. Just like you, it's going to be a long process, but I'm well on my way just like you. Continue going Randy. You are my motivation to get back to do what I love to do, and that is getting healthy. It depends. Some people maintain their body composition all year and then gain a few pounds of adipose tissue each year around the holidays and this goes on for decades until they are morbidly obese, so although it's fine to be flexible and have ad lib days, avoid being overly restrictive, but you still need to monitor some metrics and course-adjust as needed

Great result randy, you are totally right about those diets. Just reducing your intake without restricting yourself from Delicious food makes it so much easier to maintain your weightloss later on and though it takes longer to lose weight, it is so much easier because you can still enjoy Good food, just in a smaller portion. I used that same method and still maintain my weight for several years now after gaining a lot when I quit smoking years ago. Stay positive you are on the right track.

You just recorded virtually every reason why I never diet. I did the dieting thing ONCE in my life and it went EXACTLY as you described it. Lost weight just fine, but after I went back to a more normal routine I was right back where I'd started. So now, I focus more on keeping healthy than weight and that works for me which is why your example means so much to me. Keep it up!!

I never say what I am doing is "healthy" but yes I do claim that my body is doing okay and I'd venture to say that my mental health is 10 to 20 times healthier than most people potentially healthier than me physically. I never recommend what I do to anyone, especially since it's a 99.9% guarantee that anyone else would fail because they lack a strong enough "why" :)

I imagine that once Randy is finished with eating challenges he'll do the neccessary lifestyle change for the better.
Been watching Randy for many years, he's very entertaining.
Since I can't do what he does, I enjoy watching him enjoy what I can't. When I was younger I could eat anything stating I had an iron stomach. But, as with many other Gulf War vets, lifestyle changes to live longer was desired.
I wish Randy the very best in life, he very much deserves it. The man 😀

Honestly for me I’m doing carnivore and I agree with most of what you said but just for me it’s very sustainable because I’ve changed my relationship with food and only look at it as fuel and nutrition for my body but what else makes it easy for me is I just flat out love eating meat. Also I’ve never felt better in my entire life! It is literally the best decision I’ve ever made about my health. Give it a try y’all! Or if you don’t want to do it forever it’s a great elimination diet to see what you’re allergic to or it’s just a great restart for your body! :) happy days yall

@Pepe The Frog you can’t take away my story or the validity of it. If you don’t believe it that’s ok but I am just telling my story and how I have actually healed about a dozen ailments that were pretty horrible actually. I have never felt more mentally clear or had more energy or have a better body with no pain. So if you already know that carnivore is not for you then I respect that. But you can’t tell me it didn’t help heal my body because I know that it did. Also don’t talk about something you’ve never tried because I’ve tried everything else and I know this is superior.

I finally figured out after years of struggling that there is no such thing as "one size fits all"....it's a matter of finding a diet that you can live with until you reach your goal and having a plan for life after you get the weight off.
Me? I did strict low-carb dieting and lost 77 pounds.
After that I began monitoring my calorie intake 6 days a week with Sundays off.
That may not work for everyone but it's what worked for me.
I might add that a key moment was realizing that there would never be a "finish line"...just goals to be set and reevaluated from time to time.

I just wanted to say thank you for saying "most people" go back to x, y, z. I hate when people say everyone or inevitably you WILL. I do a combination of IF, and low carb. However I don't do IF strictly. For example there are some days where I'm more hungry so I will break that window earlier. I also will eat carbs when I feel like but I just do it in moderation. I've been doing low carb for 2-3 years and IF for about 2 years. And I've been able to maintain my health. But I just wanted to say I appreciated the "most people" and not assumption that everyone will go back.

That's why it's called a way of eating, and not a diet. Keto/IF tore away 100lbs for me 2 years ago, and I never saw more than 10 of those pounds since. It also killed my type 2 diabetes. I'm on maintenance carb cycling right now for harder training, but will be shedding again soon. I have 50 more pounds I don't need. I honestly can't stand how the carbs make me feel, and am looking forward to a higher protein keto again. I easily adapt and feel wonderful when I dump grains, starch, and sugar. Must be my Neanderthal genes screaming for that strength athlete style of keto.

@@jacobforrester9827 I've been doing IF for almost 2 months now. My neighbor said "I don't do that because it's not sustainable.". I just thought - what's non-sustainable about it? While I like to hope I don't go back to my old habits, this diet has been the easiest I've ever done, so I think it's possible.
Besides the weight loss, there are other health benefits for the user.
I could be losing weight even quicker, but I still allow cheat days (weekends for the most part, but if friends are going out during the week, I'd join them) and I actually appreciate food so much more now than I did before. The hard part for me has always been to control my portion sizes, but skipping meals means you automatically control them and the urges aren't nearly as strong. If anything, I get fuller faster now than before.
Keep it up Jacob! I hope to say that I made it to the 2 year mark as you did in 2023...

Never stuck to them too long and always gained back after… Never able to maintain - just as you said. Now I do the approach you take - eat anything & everything just in moderation w/occasional splurge/cheat times where even moderation goes out the window 😂 focus on making healthier choices and more strict moderation most times - so I have wiggle room others…. And I do periodic fasting days - but always on my schedule / around any plans I have that may involve food. I was able to lose 100+ lbs and keep it off for the first time in my life!!! This Nov. will be 2 years successfully maintaining 100 lbs lost!!! So fully agree with your views/approach!! Nearly exact same as mine - and I am another living proof example that THIS balanced approach WORKS over the LONG haul…. No yo-yo crazy restrictiveness required!! 💙💙

Randy, I'm a regular watcher and fan! I'm glad that your taking a break form the eating and concentrating on getting the weight down. One suggestion I would make is that, as you say we should adopt a healthy lifestyle and do everything in moderation, you are breaking your own rule with the biking, 3hrs a day is not sustainable. It may work in the short term however it will definitely take a toll on your body in the long term. I would suggest wearing a device which tells you when you need a day off.

@@RandySantel Yes I know your goal and obviously you need to put the time in the saddle otherwise it's a non-starter. I'm a Multi Imperial Centurion (100Miles) myself so I know what it takes and the training involved in ultra endurance events as well as nutrition and hydration. My only point is that trying to do everything at once can be very taxing on the body. And prior to performing my first century I spent 20 weeks slowly building up the endurance with weekend rides ever increasing distance while through the week I would do rides of lower duration involving some of the other zones. Three hours every day in my humble opinion is excessive. However I love to be proven wrong, HOWEVER if there comes a time when you agree with me please be truthful. It was great to hear your explanation, and hopefully people will listen to you and follow your advice. By the way you're looking so good already on your sexification journey 🤩 much love from the UK

I’m glad you’re reaching your goals. You criticize the sustainability of the keto plan. But I wonder if riding a bike three hours a day and all the things you’re doing is sustainable for most people as well. It’s probably sustainable for you because it’s something that you’d like to do. Good luck on the rest of your weight loss journey.

The binge eating and food challenges can cause diabetes and Hypertension. That will force you to do a version of Keto or take Insulin. The cinnamon rolls will be gonzo or you can go blind or lose a limb.

I ride 3 hours on some days a week and I never eat exactly like I did in the 24 hour food video. Crazy to think people assume so many things about the other 364 days of my life off that video. I am eventually going to ride the Katy Trail in Missouri in one day which is 226 miles. You cannot do that by cutting carbs and not riding at all. In this video, I said what I do and why I don't restrict myself. I didn't make any recommendations. If you don't have a bike, you cannot ride a bike for 3 hours.

The one thing I have noticed through the years was that when I was younger I could eat anything and everything without gaining a pound. Of course I was very active also. Getting older the body changes and it just seems harder to maintain the weight. That is most of us I think. You being a food competitor for a long time I cannot imagine how hard it is to make these adjustments and stay the course for 15 weeks. I don't think everyone realizes the mental toughness it takes to accomplish a goal like this. To go from hundreds of food challenges to maintaining the discipline needed to do this is something not everyone could do. Kudos to you for staying the course, and so far getting the great results. Some weeks will be better than others, but knowing you are giving it your all is something for you to be proud of. Much Respect! Great Job Randy Santel! "The Cajun Ninja's Dad"

It's just calories in vs calories out. People gain weight slowly over time because of the extra 1, 2, 300 calories they consistently consume every 24 hours. If you still want to eat your favorite foods just create a calorie deficit every other day to negate the extra calories your body saved as body fat. Keep in mind foods lower in fat mean less calories because fat has 9 calories per gram as opposed only 4 from carbs and protein.

I just watched your 5 week update on your weight loss progress. 2021 was bad year for me. In the first week of January 2021. I went to the doctors complaining of back pain (had a fall in previous November) I weighed in at 261 on a 5’3” frame. After test I found out I fractured 2 vertebrae and would need surgery. So here we go I thought. Just great. I immediately had a come to Jesus talk with myself and started preparing for back surgery. I am horrible at dieting. So I purchased portion control plates ( child size) the only thing I did was fill up the divided sections with what we had for dinner. If we had delivery I used the plates. If we went out I immediately asked for a to go container and put half aside.
I never restricted what I ate, just the amount.
I then started walking. First it was only 3/4 of a mile. ( before surgery)
I ended up having 2 major surgeries to repair my spine. I learned how to move, and how to exercise again. I am now doing much better and I am so proud of myself.
Exactly one year since initial weigh in I have lost 96 pounds.
Watching your video actually uplifted me. Because I don’t feel like I deprived myself of anything.
Thanks for validation of diets and restrictions. This way has really worked for me.

I have. Very restrictive diet… it is really a lifestyle. The low carb keto is a focus healthy foods. I actually go back and forth in a cyclic fashion. However, no matter what diet I am doing, I don’t lose weight. I have done the low calories, low carb, low everything… and my weight stays the same, year after year. I have come to the point, weight is just not being the focus for me.
Randy, you are doing great and Looking good. Good job.
Good fiber, low carb, higher fiber, fresh foods needs to be my lifestyle between celiac issues and other health issues that drive the restrictions… it is a life long deal here.

calorie counting and healthier options are both big keys to success, example being say you crave some potato chips, not only can you go for a smaller portion, but you can try to have some baked chips rather than fried. another example being French Fries whether in the oven or air fryer, they are WAY lower in calories than Fried ones, in fact you end up with double the cals in that case, so yeah practicing healthier options can allow you to satisfy your cravings without unsavory results.
