I disagree - I consider "Yesterday" one of the Beatles' greatest ballads, and I don't hear much funk or swing in their recording (there aren't even drums or any kind of percussion). If you want to turn it into a more rhythmic piece, feel free to do so - I think it's more beautiful as a calm, dreamy piano piece.
