    Good to see dudes Tig welding these for tack up. I'm planning a boat build and I've never done one before and that's all I have and I was pretty nervous about it. Following the build! Cheers!

    Thinking about picking up something like this as a project. How hard would this be for someone to learn to weld aluminum? As in I borrow my buddies machine and he teaches me the general technique and safety in a few hours. Then how many man hours of welding would you say the total project is? Sorry for all the questions. It looks like I could get in for around $5k USD or am I way off?

    • @angevaaremotorsports779
      @angevaaremotorsports779  3 года назад +1

      aribpm usually the kits run about $5k plus the donor and then there are going to be extras on top of that. A full boat is probably about 60+ hours of welding for a newbie and although you will be getting lots of practice, there will be some tricky aspects to do as a beginner. Once the boat is tacked, there’s lots of long welds to get practice but obviously be careful as it does need to be waterproof as well as strong. Having a buddy who can weld will be very useful, but these boats do make awesome learning projects!

      @@angevaaremotorsports779 as far as a decent hull what companies would you recommend? This sounds like a project I might need to part out over a few years. Hull one year then, intake and motor another. I live near the trinity river in Dallas and they have tons of spots that would be incredible footage. I see a nice golf course that needs a high pass run done on it. The lake is 150 yards from the house and I see about a 10 mile stretch to the next lake. Other than that I can see how being light weight would be easier to launch in non conventional areas. Not a lot of rocks but we do have trees.

    • @angevaaremotorsports779
      @angevaaremotorsports779  3 года назад +1

      aribpm Minijet makes a great hull. Being that you’re in Dallas, you’d want to find out what’s best for you in terms of location. Minijet and Jetstream both make a good product but are in Canada. I’m not too sure what is available for you location wise. Keeping these boats lightweight is key and they are a blast in any type of water. They are built for rocky rivers but perform great anywhere.

      @aribpm 3 года назад

      @@angevaaremotorsports779 I think I understand now where you coming from. Yes I did a little research 🧐 , most of the companies I am seeing with CNC aluminum hulls are Canadian. It would be wise for me to visit a few near by shops to see what advice they have. When my kids get a little older I want to visit Canada 🇨🇦. I want to see the Rockies from your view.

    How much time do you think a spool gun would have saved? Would it be worth it if you had to do it again?

    • @angevaaremotorsports779
      @angevaaremotorsports779  3 года назад +1

      The spool gun saves quite a bit of time on the inside of the boats. It’s messy and not as nice looking but it definitely cuts down on time. I still prefer to TIG the outsides but I would consider picking up a good spool gun for interior welds.

    • @angevaaremotorsports779
      @angevaaremotorsports779  4 года назад +1

      It depends on what I’m welding. I usually use 1/8” filler rod and around 120 amps for the 1/8” pieces. 150+ amps for the bottom.

      We use a Lincoln 200 square wave TIG. We TIG everything because originally that’s the only welder we had and also, it makes for a more refined finished product. Most people spool weld and then grind them clean, we TIG weld and just leave the welds as is.

      Braden Gilson you have to lift them to align it at the front and as you go you force it down to add the curvature to the bottom of the hull.
