Good stuff fam! Definitely something not talked about enough. Thank you for bringing this topic to light. And also, Starbucks needs to cut that check!! Hahaha
I’m doing local locums in Georgia so I get to be home every night. In a city with lots of hospitals that aren’t very far from one another, doing local locums is CLUTCH. I live at home and round at damn near every hospital in the city. It’s nice, and lucrative. I love it!
@@lucasbrandao3450 we got this!! Don't do what I did and ignore personal life. Make sure you find that balance otherwise it will take a heavy toll on you
About the write offs make sure you get a good CPA. I was an independent contractor and went to HR block to get my taxes done in 2018 and the write offs I ended up paying them all back because the accountant did all incorrect. $12k bill bounced back to me.
If there are any Family Practice MDs who are looking to work outpatient, I’m your guy. Amazing video and very informative, locums is all about work life balance and paying our providers first!
Looking at dental locums for shorter commitments and variety of cities. Thank you for the honesty and taking time to make & post this. Especially about the taxes! Been there man. Don't remember the movie, but do remember the quote. When the lady passed the new guy his first check, the look on his face. . . and she says "govment sho take a bite don't she?". Appreciate you. What about a travel trailer so it might feel a little more like home?
Really appreciate your videos Dr.! Current M3 who’s planning on IM to pursue Hospitalist work :) It’s hard to find videos talking about this field so I appreciate you taking the time to make them!
Thank you. I’m late in my career and would like more time with family and travel and burning out with my private practice for 15 years then as an employed physician in the last few. I always am scared of not having health insurance is what has made me not go the locums route before.
Hey you make excellent videos! Straight from the heart. Do you mind making a comparison video- IM fellowship vs No fellowship and talk about things like: Competitiveness and job prospects after fellowships (especially in sub-specialties such as ID, Nephro, Endocrine) Long term pros n cons of each hospitalist/internist/nocturnist Academia vs private practice. Thank you so much!!
Thank you for the info. I've watched all your videos. The transparency is on 100%. Really appreciate it. Quick question, since doctors are doing locum, have you notice the workload unevenly spread out to the locum docs?
Thank you for supporting my content! If I understand your questions correctly, its pretty spread evenly for locum a for a particular company at a particular hospital but it can definitely be uneven across different locum companies at different hospitals just because every hospital has their own unique system that they have in place which affects the locum company using their docs at that particular place. Hope that makes sense and answers your question
@@doctorcurtiso.7853 most definitely. Thank you for your speedy response and filling up the internet space with your knowledge and experience 🙏🏽✊🏾💪🏾#internalmedicine
How are locums for surgical specialties? I'm guessing it's different. For example, it might be hard to operate on patients and also create your own schedule. Maybe only if you do longer streches and stop operating a few days before you leave?
Really good question. I honestly do not know how theirs works but you bring up a really good point with regards to long stretches. I’d have to look into but I don’t know anyone personally who is doing locums from A surgery perspective
Can you be an internist at a hospital AND do Locums when you want on your weeks off? It seems like that would be the best of both worlds and maximize income. Stability of your regular job and then if you had the energy or desire to increase income for that month then you pick up some Locum shifts
Dr Curtis, Which program did you choose for the residency? Could you provide me guidance how it works right after residency ? As I didn’t know this before, but I wanted something to practice along with traveling. I want something to balance work and life
Wonderful video thanks so much for all the amazing insight! I am currently a second year medical student right now, so as someone who would like to have a good work-life balance in the future this video helped a lot!
Ross and St.George are head and shoulders above other Caribbean schools. I don’t know the others well enough to recommend any of them confidently, sorry.
Let's say I really value family time over money. Can locums be a great alternative to career breaks when it comes to raising kids? (Like I would work 2 months and rest for the remaining 10 months without losing my job/contract. Is this feasible?)
I would think you don't get the same benefit as a locum the way that contract would get such as health benefit, 401k, and all that right? At least you get the up front cash and get to see different states.
I’m currently in college with a 2.1 waiting on my grades from this semester how long did it take you to raise yours. Like how much would you see a rise each semester
When you pay taxes for the states you work and let’s say you work in 2 different states for that tax year, do you pay the report the full tax year income to each state or just pay state income tax for the amount you earned in each state?
Hello Dr. Curtis! You just earned a subscriber! Your videos are so helpful so thank you for making them. I have a question, would it be harder for new graduate straight out of residency to find a locum job? Do I need to work for a few years before becoming a locum doc?
Yooo, I'm from Lake Charles! I'm a FM PGY2 and looking at hospitalists. The locum side is appealing to me. What did you think of LC and how long was your locum stay there? You have a great way of explaining things and I like that!

Starting my locums journey and stumbled on this video. Nice to see another Baylor Alum and Htown native doing their thing. Best!
Great video! You should talk about student loan repayment especially since I heard international med schools had insane price tags 300k+
Yup. I plan on doing that sometime soon 💪🏾 and thank you
Thanks for sharing Dr. Curtis O! Locums are super underrated. Shout out to all the Locum Tenens out there!

you can get around the financing to buy a home easily with a DSCR loan or No Income Verification loan (depending on the state). trust me its easy
