sweet sounding & looking L5
nice demo @markagnesi Hi Jen 🎥🎸😎
Mike M. digging the L5S🤘🏻. Mark should play some steely dan one of these days!
Hey Mike M. Thanks for putting the song titles up all the time. It's the first thing I look at in the comments! Thanks!
Colby Jack 👍🏼🤘🏻
OMG The Faces sounds so close to Blitz - Fatigue, i was sure it's it
Colby Jack same here :)
That has the be the best sounding guitar I've heard in a looong time..
The Super Humbucker is a Bill Lawrence masterpiece.
It would be even better sounding with a better amp and better tuning.
guitar of the day is wonderful entertainment , ALSO possibly adding a repair department channel would be very cool , even once a week hmm ok thanks
mark norris you really don’t want Joel in front of the camera
well after a few hundred episodes of suffering through mark "playing" those amazing instruments , i'm ready to move up the evolutionary ladder to the repair department
dunno if anyone gives a shit but if you are bored like me during the covid times you can watch pretty much all of the new movies on Instaflixxer. Been watching with my girlfriend for the last couple of months xD
@Fisher Lee Yup, I've been watching on Instaflixxer for since december myself =)
@@fisherlee3262 you just watched one bad ass looking L-5s and you don't have anything to say about? 😂 I get what you're say though. But I do want one of these L-5s' when I can afford it.
"We like to pay livable wages here" Best comment ever on GTD!
D B and also super not accurate.
Jay Verspeelt exactly. Last I saw, Gibson was paying builders $11-13 per hour. That’s far from livable.
$3.60 hr for Chinese factory worker being paid more than ever. I made $3.25 hr in 1982!
John B, economy of scale. Commodities in China are extrodinarily less expensive, but if you just look at the Labour maker in general every other western nation in the world has a higher standard of living than the US.
DRS
More than they make in China.
Btw many here in California get by on even less than $11-$13 per hour and prices on everything here is fairly high.
What they're paying their workers is actually a fairly livable amount if you live within your means.
Maybe not so much with a family of kids though.
One of my favorite guitars. Was Boz Scaggs' main axe through the 70s & 80s.
Dude i miss Mark so much on this channel. He was so good
Cool. It looks like a smooshed LP; bigger but thin.
A Norlin Era L5S in black? Those are super rare!
Wow, that looks and sounds Saweet. That double binding work is outrageous. Thanks to both of you for putting this together.
I’ve learned so much from this show and I watch it every day. Great job as always! (Hi Jen!)
THAT is a fabulous guitar!
Keep the streak goin mark! Sell that beautiful thing! I love the show and I'll never stop watching! I live all the way in South Carolina but I plan on coming out to visit the shop! Hopefully everyone is there when I'm there ! Cheers mark
Solid body versions of hollow body guitars. Kinda like my dad's 1980 es-335s professional.
Why do you always say to "check these out on the website", when NONE of them are ever on the website?!
That thing has a really great clean tone in addition to a distinctive overdriven voice. Someone is going to be super happy with that one.
Fantastic presence to this guitar, full spectrum and it wasn't ticklish at all
Just when I thought I've seen it all, now that's different and cool! Love it!
John McLaughlin played one on the "Inner Worlds" Mahavishnu Orchestra record. Massive tone.
Come on, Mark... Keith used to play his L5S back in the Winos days! Why not something from those awesome solo albums??? This was your great chance! We all know you love them... :'(
I like the the low impedance pickups. I think they sound good just like the humbuckers.
"We like to pay livable wages here" You sure about that dude? Sweet guitar though! Love me some Faces
I don’t know if you guys got a new mic or what, but that is the best a guitar has ever sounded on GTD. Well done.
Hi Mark and Jen! Love the videos you guys put out. Could you do a shoutout to my friend Jack Clark please? It's his birthday on Friday and he watches every day before he even gets out of bed in the morning (we're in the UK). Thanks!
Super rad gee-tar! Love how thin it looks and with all that binding. Thanks Mark and Jen! Byeeeee!
Awesome guitar! I'm not a trapeze bridge fan, but the binding & appointments are fantastic. Great sound, and very distinctive. Classic, chunky harmonica bridge, so awesome.
I'd be stunned if that beauty was still in the store as I write this.
Arguably the best Norlin era they made next to the L6-S. So classy
Keep getting the most beautiful guitars!!!!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!!!! Those are my favorite. Ever since I found out about the L5s I've never liked another guitar. Also the 1980s ones came with a pick guard just to answer your question.
Loooooooooooove seeing an L5 solidbody ... I've run across a few in person over the decades sitting in shops. Great body size.
I can dig it.
Ah, the Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am edition....yes, a year early but that is what this reminds me of.
Thumbs up just for the Ronnie Wood licks, that really made my day!
Great playing and excellent song choice. Nice to hear some Paul Simon. What a rad guitar!
Mark is so good!!
How about a Marauder..? Haven't seen you do one of those. Or a melody maker.
200K Subs! Congrats you guys!!! I love this channel and watch every day! Keep up the amazing work!
I'm your 1960 view and it reminded me of 1960 guitars!!
Very strange for me, but it's so cool and unique!
I lusted after a L6S back in the day. Do one of those!
Now that's what I'm 'talkin' 'bout, Mark! Marry the two together! Weird-ass ES Wednesday! The L-5S is one of my favorite guitars. As for the pick guard. I don't know what year it started, but the 1981 model did have a pick guard. In fact it may have been the only year. Do a Google Search and you'll see one with a pick guard.
I’ve got an LP Recording model. Tip: the Decade knob is your friend. 0 is flat and very hi-fi. But try it at 3 or 4 for a more normal response. RUclips has a bunch of demos with the guitar poorly voiced for playing through a non-jazz amp. The way I have it set up it rips through an old Vox AC15. Great with pedals too.
Not a big fan of this model. I always thought they were ugly, but I have to admit it sounds amazing. Probably one of the best sounding demos you've done in a while. Those super humbuckers really smoke!
What a rock and roll machine!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Chills--for me, can't get better than a Gibson. Bet that sold fast~
Great Rig....thanks Mark and Jen
Anyone viewing this...you're in a dream. This is undeniably the best ever on GOTD. I know there is a God because otherwise there would be no pineapple or Gibson L5S guitars.
Man I love that guitar!
God, I love Stay with Me!
I remember a cover of Guitar Playe magazine from the mid 70's that had Pat Martino with a CSB version. Looked like a nice guitar. Unfortunately never played one or really heard Pat. My loss.
WE WANT A TRAVIS BEAN
Cornell Dupree I'm prepared to comment on every video
This just looks like a gigantic LP
If we don’t get a Thumpin’ Thursday today, you’re all grounded. No more Guitar of the Day, no more Norm selling guitars, and no more leather jackets. Don’t think I’m joking, mister!
PRETTY FLOWER POT!
I've always loved L5S's and this was a beauty. Shame that top E string didn't want to sit in it's saddle though... :-)
my dream guitar
I have always had mixed feelings about these, While they are very cool guitars there is a part of me that thinks if i want an L5 I should get an L5 but if i want a solid body well that's what Les Pauls are for. So it is a weird model. I guess I always have thought of them as really fancy well appointed luxury models. An L5 has the carved top and all of the bling. And an LP has the carved maple top and mahogany body. Aside from the gold, the binding and the inlays wouldn't you prefer an LP custom instead of one of these? Or a real L5? Still it is a very cool guitar that you don't see very often.
Jim Bonacum
Depends on how many guitars you want. If you only have one, it’s a Tele!! This one would be about 7 or 8 on my list
Jim Bonacum I would take this anyday over a Les Paul.
This is not to say that I would not like to have one for my collection! But as billyclun56 wisely points out when your space and pocketbook are limited you miss choose and the L5S would be pretty far down mine. I would have to have a real L5 and a real LP in the rack before I would consider one of these. Oh and I completely agree first and foremost everyone needs a Telecaster. After that you are just gilding the lily.
Ron Wood's version a is very cool looking guitar tho
Jim Bonacum Les pauls are high sustain guitars that tend to get muddy. This is an high sustain guitar that doesn’t tend to get muddy. That’s the difference. Btw I think telecasters are primitive instruments compared to these ones.
lovely guitar very well played!
Pete Carr of Muscle Shoals fame...FAME , also played one
That machine is a beauty. How about doing an air guitar? Hello Mark and Jen.
Great guitar Mark. Love it.
Very interesting guitar, didn't know it existed
Sounds good
Love it!!! Awesome sounding guitar with those Super Humbuckers in it. Looks like a Les Paul on steroids.
I thought the last song was a rocked-up Young Americans by David Bowie? Guess that blues pattern is pretty common. Great riff in any case!
Mac That is Stay With Me by The Faces. If you haven't heard them, listen to their album "A Nod is as Good as a Wink"- it's fantastic.
About freakin’ time. Today an L5-S, tomorrow an L6-S, a Marauder, or even an S-1. (Ron Wood appeared in Gibson’s ads BITD with an S-1.) I also think Mark Farner played an L5-S back in the mid-70s.
America likes to pay liveable wages?
This is news to me.
Amazing guitar though. That neck pickup is pure butter.
Now thats what i call a beaut.!
I stole your settings the other day Mark, eq's at noon and just a little reverb
How about a l6-s deluxe? Or custom?
Clayton Brown, I did the same 😁
The Faces sounds super cool!
Nice!!
I'm usually not a huge fan of the Harmonica bridge, but it doesn't look bad but on this
All I can say is NICE! Give me one with some SD pickups. YES!
Has there really ever been an original black L5-S? Please educate me! Thank you
Totally dope!
Awesome looking guitar and friggin monster tone.
hot damn, these things are beautiful~
How about a L6 S in black with the ebony board.
That thing is too damn cool!
Love l5s and l6s
still waiting on Mark to play an upright bass to make up for Thumpin' Thursday. :) always nice axes though thanks !
holy shit that thing sounds good
Mark Farner had one too.
Think it sounds amazing man!
I love how thin it is and it still sound pretty good , never seen one before , but anything in original black is gonna be cool. nice job guys. And love the political commenting Mark.
The Jacket!
Happy not so Weird-Ass
Wednesday everyone!
And of course there's a Stones
tune!
Sweet
Do a gibson marauder
Great sound to the neck.very creamy!great sounding axe.
The ones Les Paul intended Mark... :-) They were his favourite weren't they.
Mark needs a '76 Trans Am to go with that f*cking rad jacket.
He loves to say valute 😝. But thanx for all the info on all the awesome guitars . Mark knows his shit 👍🏻. And good for you for speaking up for Gibson loved it 👊🏻.
Good guitar. Interesting channel. Keep it up!
Keith had bridge only humbucker ,take it so hard baby ,see his 88 live performances, brilliant, talk is cheap but this ain't and it shouldn't be
Wow is that a new jacket???
Did ur jacket change colors?
That's the Pat Martino guitar, only his was burst and had Dunlop 6000 giant frets I think
Mark you need to do a dozen shows ahead of time just in case you get the flu. It’s going around. Jen finals are coming up, wish me luck.
